Spare parts of high school comedies from “Peggy Sue Got Married” to “Mean Girls” and beyond have been torn asunder, then sewn back together to create “Senior Year.” In other words, this vehicle for producer-star Rebel Wilson isn’t organic even as a genre homage; its Frankensteinian assemblage always feels more imitative than inspired. Nonetheless, if Alex Hardcastle’s effortfully high-spirited Netflix feature isn’t exactly good, it’s still .
Introduced as “just some average boring invisible girl who had no friends” in 1999, Australian émigré Stephanie Conway (Angourie Rice) determines on her 14th birthday to start doing better. Three years hence, a methodical push toward popularity has paid off: She’s captain of the cheerleading squad, has assumed possession of the boyfriend, Blaine (Tyler Barnhardt), of deadly rival Tiffany (Ana Yi Puig), seems to have the prom queen crown sewn up and can afford not to even notice that both...

After literally asking for more Ron Cadillac last week, Archer brought him back in his own adventure with Sterling for "Midnight Ron!" When the most boringest man on this entire planet of Earth gets his backstory told, what can you expect?
Well, outside of his minor Sherman tank-stealing flashback, you get a pretty decent buddy adventure. The unlikely pairing of Ron and Sterling did more than just piss off Malory. It somehow involved tranny bikers in distrubingly sexy high heels.
Who the heck could have seen that one coming from a Ron Cadillac episode? Okay, fine, Cheryl's old gypsy woman. Even if she got the making it rain part wrong, I have got to get that woman's info.
While the adventure from Montreal to make it back to the city in time for the premiere of Carmen at the Met was pretty light, it's not the action we come to Archer for.

Siegal and Morgan have worked on 30 Rock for the past three seasons. Prior to that, they worked on Monk as well as Dog Bites Man and Crossballs: The Debate Show. They also tried their hand at film scripting for Harvey Glazer's less-than-well-received Kickin It Old Skool, writing along with Trace Slobotkin. Jamie Kennedy starred in that pic...

Renowned Columbian pop sensation Shakira is all set to venture into Bollywood! According to reports, Shakira is to sing a Latin influenced solo dance number for a yet untitled Bollywood movie directed by Prashant Chadha (Aap Kaa Surroor) which will be shot in China-Germany-Czech Republic-Morocco and expected to be released in summer 2011. Music composer duo Salim Merchant and Suleiman Merchant will compose it and recording is expected to start in about a month. This song, whose lyrics will be in English with a smattering of Hindi, will be filmed on South African model Candice Boucher, but Shakira might possibly make a small appearance. Energy drink owner Sachin Joshi, who is producing the film, will also star in it. Shakira will thus be following the footsteps of British dance-pop singer Samantha Fox (Kickin It Old Skool), Australian actress-singer Kylie Minogue (Neighbours), and American singer-songwriter Akon (Locked Up), who have ventured into Bollywood in the past.

If you haven't seen the T-shirts being given out to the crew for "Toy Story 3," you're definitely going to want to check out director Lee Unkrich's posts today. They're must-sees Disney and Pixar fans. I almost gave him Twitter Pic of the Day status, too, but Kevin Nealon's shot with Sarah Silverman in a headlock edged them all out. Furthermore, I couldn't pick just one side of one of the shirts to spotlight.
I've also got a nice memory of actor Henry Gibson, who passed away yesterday, thoughtfully tweeted by actor Michael McKean. You can check that out at the top of the Twitter-Wood rundown today, along with a David Slade "Eclipse" tweet, a TwitPic from Peter Facinelli out in the forest, and a note about Tom Arnold's bachelor party. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter-Wood report for September 17, 2009.

Don't worry. Ashton Kutcher appears to be safely on the ground and tweeting following an engine emergency in his plane. Thanks to the wonders of the Twitter-Wood feed, his well being has been verified. Today's report actually contains several notes of danger, with the "Spread" star showing up first. Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler suffered injuries after a fall from stage during a concert in South Dakota. I don't have a Twitter account on file for Tyler, but writer Brian Lynch was on hand to tweet.
Significantly less dangerous was director James Gunn's birthday this week, which earned Twitter Pic of the Day honors. The "Slither" director apparently celebrated with some sushi and Lex Luthor himself, Michael Rosenbaum. You can scope out a link to that shot, as well as swearing advice and "Twilight" hopes from Peter Facinelli below. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for August 6, 2009.

It's rare that a sequel surpasses the original, but a recent casting announcement concerning the follow-up to Ip Man (see Reed's review here [1]) seems to indicate that director Wilson Yip is gearing up to do just that. Legendary action star Sammo Hung has signed on as Donnie Yen's opponent in the film, playing a macho master of Hung Gar who takes exception to Ip Man's introduction of Wing Chun to the streets of Hong Kong, a style dismissed as being too feminine. I'm a great admirer of Sammo Hung, having spent the past few months going over some of his early work, so this is quite possibly the best movie news I've heard so far this year. It's amazing to see movies of this sort making a comeback. Aspects of traditional martial arts have been used to great effect in enhancing modern action movies, but the pure spectacle...

Yet another independent film distributor has gone belly up, this time it's Yari Film Group Releasing, the distribution arm of Bob Yari's company. As of last Friday, the company was forced into involuntary bankruptcy due to a described "perfect storm" of debts and other issues. Yari Film Group's first big hit was The Illusionist in 2006; other films they've released include First Snow, The Hoax, The Painted Veil, Resurrecting the Champ, The Good Night, Kickin It Old Skool, and The Perfect Holiday. Yari was also in the midst of releasing two dramas this December - Nothing But the Truth and What Doesn't Kill You. Bob Yari said that they were "left with no other option but to commence substantial layoffs and to suspend its releasing activities." While both Nothing But the Truth and What Doesn't Kill You will both be released as planned (on December 19th and December 12th, respectively...

The North American boxoffice appeared to be marking time during the weekend as if waiting for Friday's expected blowout, when Sony Pictures' Spider-Man 3 comes knocking. None of a weak array of new arrivals managed to break through the $10 million barrier, so the teen thriller Disturbia remained king of the hill for the third frame in a row.
Of the newcomers, Buena Vista Pictures' The Invisible, tapping into the same younger audience as Disturbia, ranked second overall with an estimated $7.6 million. The Nicolas Cage sci-fi thriller Next, from Paramount Pictures and Revolution Studios, had to settle for third place and an estimated $7.2 million, while the "Stone Cold" Steve Austin actioner The Condemned, from Lionsgate, entered the list in ninth place with an estimated $4 million. As for the Yari Film Group's Kickin' It Old Skool, starring Jamie Kennedy, it finished outside the top 10 with an estimated $2.8 million.
According to Nielsen EDI, the weekend represented a 23% drop from the comparable weekend last year, when Sony's RV led the pack with $16.4 million. But though the past two weekends have shown steep declines from last year, the spring season, which began March 9 and concludes Thursday, has set record numbers. With $1.231 billion in Hollywood's coffers, this spring is outpacing the record spring of 2004 that took in $1.2 billion. And while that year The Passion of the Christ dominated as the top grosser with $370.3 million, this year the wealth has been spread around a bit more since top grosser 300 has accounted for $207 million.
For Paramount, it was a good news/bad news weekend. The studio's Disturbia, from DreamWorks and Montecito Pictures, ranked first for the third weekend in a row as it fell just 30% while taking in an estimated $9.1 million.
Directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Shia LaBeouf as a housebound teen who suspects a neighbor of murder, the film -- written by Christopher Landon and Carl Ellsworth -- crossed the $50 million mark, hitting an estimated $52.2 million.

Jamie Kennedy has been tapped to star opposite Lee Majors in Fox's single-camera comedy pilot Me & Lee? while Orlando Jones is set to star in ABC's untitled cop comedy pilot.
Meanwhile, Miguel Ferrer and Chris Bowers have been tapped to co-star in NBC's drama pilot The Bionic Woman, a reimagination of the 1970s series that was a spinoff of Majors' signature series, The Six Million Dollar Man.
Additionally, Barry Bostwick, Kristy Wu and Andre Holland have joined ABC's untitled Ric Swartzlander comedy pilot, and Ben Savage is set as Todd in the untitled Sachs/Judah pilot.
"Me & Lee?" from Lionsgate, centers on a guy (Kennedy) with chronic back pain who gets more than he bargained for when he undergoes "bionic" back surgery in a secret lab run by actor Lee Majors (playing himself) in the basement of his Beverly Hills mansion. Majors built the lab after becoming obsessed with bionics after "Man" went off the air.
Kennedy next appears in the documentary Heckler, which premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival, and in the comedy feature Kickin' It Old Skool. He is repped by CAA, Principato-Young Entertainment and attorney Mitch Smelkinson.

Action star Vin Diesel is reportedly dating a sexy TV presenter he once publicly flirted with as she interviewed him for news show Access Hollywood. Maria Menounos chose the xXx star as her date when she cheered on her pal Rita Wilson during a recent performance of stage musical Chicago in New York last week. A source close to Menounos confirms a relationship saying, "They've been friendly for about a year." The 28-year-old Menounos is also an aspiring actress and will star opposite Jamie Kennedy in the upcoming comedy Kickin' It Old Skool. She also appears in Jessica Simpson's new music video "A Public Affair." A Menounos pal says the actress has had a long-standing crush on Diesel and is thrilled with the progression of the relationship. The source adds, "There's always been an attraction there. (Now) they're taking it to the next level."...
