An improvement on episode one, "The Car" actually features a central crisis, as Mike sneaks out in Fish's car and gets arrested for theft. Fish has to make a 90 minute trip to Queens to recover his green 1971 Chevy, while enduring lectures from Bernice and Charlie about jumping to conclusions ("I have to jump, I'm a pedestrian now!"). Diane is watching THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO, and Loomis proclaims himself a reverend offering a special on confessions ("I don't wanna hear any!"). Victor decides to pack and leave before he too ends up behind bars; as expected, he doesn't get far without Jilly, who wants to attend a Bay City Rollers concert (Jilly: "I hate to think Victor's right about you!" Fish: "Victor? Who's Victor?").
