I liked Mark Young's post apocalyptic thriller Tooth and Nail (review) more than most which makes me pumped to see what he's coking up with Sexy Criminals, a crime flick billed as "a contemporary Bonnie and Clyde."
Synopsis:
Sabrina Ackerman, a young girl obsessed with petty theft, falls for charming bank robber Johnny Ringo. He introduices her to an exciting world of crime and she enthusiastically joins his crew: Eugine lipman, a violent sociapath; and Telly, a sexy and volatile drug addict.
But when the perfect heist goes horribly wrong and turns into a bloodbath, Sabrina flees chased by those who want her dead and Johnny, who wants her back.
Young is currently casting for the film which he wrote and will direct.
Check out the first poster, some storyboards and and Young's demo reel featuring footage from Southern Gothic, Tooth and Nail and Killing Jar after the break.

Avatar (20th Century Fox) James Cameron beat his own title as box office champ, set with Titanic over a decade ago, with this eye-popping sci-fi epic about a paraplegic Marine name Sully (Sam Worthington), who takes the form of an “avatar,” or virtual being, to go undercover on the planet Pandora, attempting to infiltrate the native Na’vi to gather intelligence that will aid a joint corporate and military operation to rape the planet of its natural resources, destroying its indigenous population in the process. When Sully suddenly “goes native,” he locks horns with the company CEO (Giovanni Ribisi) and his gung-ho commanding officer (Stephen Lang, in a wonderful, scenery-chewing turn from a long-underrated actor). Thought of by many scholars and film buffs as a “game-changer” as much as the first Star Wars film was—and they may be right. While Cameron’s politically-correct...

It's a big week for "versus" films as we have Avh: Alien vs. Hunter, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (on Blu-ray solo and also in a two-pack with 30,000 Leagues Under the Sea), and The Navy vs. the Night Monsters. In addition a couple of other dual releases bow on May 18th: Book of Lore/Grave Mistakes and Invasion of Carol Enders/Come Die With Me.
Other promising possibilities include Freakshow, described as "a gory nod to Tod Browning's 1932 horror cult classic Freaks", Hard Ride to Hell (who doesn't love biking devil worshipers?), Haunting of Winchester House (which bills itself as a terrifying true story), Mutant Vampire Zombies From the Hood (the title alone has me sold!), Southern Gothic starring genre fave William Forsythe (it promises to combine arthouse and grindhouse for a ferocious new spin on vampire horror), and Tokyo Gore Police Version 1.5, which includes a bonus disc of follow-up short films.

When a maniacal southern preacher is bitten by a vampire, and subsequently turned into a vampire, things are bound to get crazy, especially when he thinks his new found immortality and abilities have been given to him by God Himself. One can imagine he will soon start spreading his evil word, recruiting small-town stragglers and people looking for a place to go, and a leader to follow. Next would be to start spreading the word even farther to neighboring towns and states; when a person doesn't submit to vampire way of life, the preacher could just bite them anyway. They would be unstoppable, southern, and downright gothic.
Not all this goes down though. The concept of this movie is good, but either from lack of imagination or poor financing, the story doesn't stretch as far as it should. A maniacal preacher does get bit. He does turn into a more maniacal vampire,...

Southern Gothic is an independent horror film that revolves around vampire, preachers, strippers, and a congregation of the undead, which completed in 2007. This sounds like a good premise, but the film, which showed at SXSW, has been described as a "sorry excuse for a horror film," (David Harely, Bloody Disgusting) and "the horror elements feel like something of an afterthought" (Keith Brown, Eye for Film). Yet, the trailer is interesting enough and fans of William Forsythe might want to take a peek. All the details on Southern Gothic are below.
The synopsis for Southern Gothic here:
"Pray for dawn. In the sleepy Southern town of Redemption, a new kind of terror is about to awaken: For burned-out strip club bouncer Hazel Fortune, life has become downward spiral of self-destructive behavior until he s befriended by the young daughter of the club s new dancer. But when the girl is kidnapped...

Fans will get chance to meet stars of film, TV and sport - and try out the latest video games - at Birmingham's NEC on March 27 to 28 as the venue once more plays host to the Spring Memorabilia Show.
Among those attending are Gunnar Hansen, who plays the unforgettable Leatherface (pictured above) in 1974's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Richard Brooker, who plays killer Jason Vorhees in Friday 13th Part III.
Hollywood actor William Forsythe will be making his first UK appearance. He has appeared in movies such as Rob Zombie's 2005 crime thriller The Devil's Rejects about a sadistic family of serial killers, in which Forsythe played the Sheriff trying to bring them to justice (see picture below).
His other credits include the movies Once Upon A Time In America; Dick Tracy; and Steven Seagal's Out For Justice, as well as hit TV shows such as Hill Street Blues and The Untouchables.

Oliver Stone and Hugo Chavez, sitting on a tree... S-p-i-n-n-i-n-g. Back again with the best, worst and weirdest updates from the movie world, including director Oliver Stone's trip down to South of the Border, being buddy-buddies with controversial heads of state. That gave me an idea. How about a new Rambo movie where he rescues lefty filmmakers from mad dictators? What's that, you say? There's already a new Rambo movie in the works?
