Dystopian film noir........
hungryghost23 July 2006
A dystopic film noir, Tom Waits Made Me Cry is the story of VINCENT MARTIN LEVINE; a man crippled by apathy in a Celebrity-governed society. Born in 1977, the year of Star Wars and the unrelated death of Elvis Presley, he was reared by his father, a life-long Elvis fan who never recovered from The King's death, with cold fatherly-advice like "Never have heroes son. The bastards will just let you down!" and "This life will be the death of you!" Now, years later Vincent is living his life off the grid and is mistaken for a Free Thinker - an enemy of the State – by the Celebrity Government who sanction his assassination. Having lost his job selling Anti-Celebrity magazines when his Boss is killed Vincent is left to fend for himself. Taking his Boss' last words to heart, Vincent begins his search for passion in the songs of Tom Waits. Experiencing something of a catharsis whilst listening to "Somewhere", he then watches Star Wars - a film his father forbade him to watch on the grounds that it was nothing more than "puerile propaganda." Meanwhile, JON, a college dropout and habitual drug user, is motivated solely by his desire to remain unemployed. However, when the Celebrity-Government launch a new employment initiative his life his throwing into turmoil and both his, and Vincent's destinies are sealed.
