All week long, Vulture explores what happens to reality TV contestants after the show ends — and the future of the genre itself. Reality television may be synonymous with fame-chasers, but it’s also a field crowded with amateurs and semi-professionals trying to rise to the top in their industries. Are Top Chef, American Idol, and the legions of also-rans really the launching pads to professional success they make themselves out to be, though? We made it our mission to find out. The ground rules: We started with shows that aim to launch careers, and then discarded those that cast already-established professionals (The Next Iron Chef) or focus on behind-the-scenes roles where stardom is rare (Top Design, Shear Genius). Then we looked at the winners and runners-up of the shows that made the cut, and decided if each person achieved professional success after their appearance. We focused on the top two...

I have a soft spot for Tabatha Coffey because she was a contestant on the first show I ever recapped for AfterEllen. Shear Genius didn't last long, and Coffey didn't even win the competition, but she was easily the fan favorite and now she's in her fifth season of doing Tabatha Takes Over for Bravo. Last night she chatted with Joy Behar about growing up in an environment with many transgender women, and about how she had to come out as a lesbian to her mother two times. Watch the clip below:
I couldn't really tell from the interview. How do you think she feels about weddings and babies?

The “Shear Genius” stunner looked like a seasoned pro as she corralled her cuties, including 3-year-old Vida and 4-year-old Levi while shutterbugs looked on from afar.

Matthew recently told press “I don’t dislike any of my exes. If I took time to form a relationship, it’s gonna hurt when we move on, but are you puttin’ Wite-Out over all that beautiful time together? That was real time in your life. It’s connected to where you are today.”...

Oxygen Media announced that world-famous supermodels Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha will join renowned supermodel and businesswoman Naomi Campbell on “The Face,” a new reality competition series that features aspiring female models in their quest to win the opportunity of becoming “the face” for a well-known brand. This powerhouse trio of supermodel coaches will be responsible for molding, nurturing and transforming the promising contestants as they compete for the career opportunity of a lifetime. Additionally, famed fashion photographer and former model Nigel Barker will host the series. Oxygen has also tapped Andrew Frank, a veteran showrunner (“The Amazing Race” and “Survivor”), as executive producer. Produced by Shine America, “The Face” is scheduled to air in 2013 and casting for the aspiring models is currently underway. For more information, visit www.oxygen.com and follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/OxygenPR.
Oxygen viewers will gain access inside the world of modeling with “The Face,” which features three teams of models, each led by supermodel coaches Campbell, Kurkova and Rocha. The coaches will scout and choose their teams from aspiring young models nationwide before guiding them through assignments, which include photo shoots, runway shows and commercials for some of America’s best known brands. Throughout the series, the supermodel coaches will mentor these young hopefuls taking the lessons and skills they have learned and using them to guide their teams through challenges that accurately depict what it takes to have a career as a model and be the face of a brand. During the process, these young models will be exposed to the very best photographers, stylists and designers in the fashion world. In the end, one girl will be chosen to become ‘The Face’ of a well-known brand, earning a real contract as the brand ambassador. As the image of this brand, the winner will become a spokesperson for that company, representing it from all angles – in print, on-air and at brand-hosted events.
Naomi Campbell (Supermodel Coach)
One of the five original supermodels, Campbell was born in London and caught her break when she was 15 years old. She has graced the covers of more than 500 magazines during her career, and has been featured in campaigns for Burberry, Prada, Versace, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino. She was the first black model to appear on the cover of Time magazine, French Vogue and Russian Vogue as well as the first British black model to appear on the cover of British Vogue. The runway was her domain as she showcased the collections of top designers, including Chanel, Azzedine Alaϊa, Christian Dior and Versace.
Additionally, Campbell has appeared in countless TV shows, music videos and films, including “The Cosby Show,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Madonna’s “Erotica," Bob Marley's "Is This Love" and Michael Jackson's "In The Closet." Campbell is also responsible for an incredible amount of fundraising and charity work in South Africa and across the globe. She began charity work with Nelson Mandela in 1993, and in 1997 he named her “Honorary Granddaughter” for endless activism. In 2005, she established Fashion For Relief and hosted its first charity fashion show to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Since its conception in 2005, Fashion For Relief has presented shows in New York, London, Cannes, Moscow, Mumbai and Dar es Salaam, and has raised millions of dollars for various causes. Additional shows and events are scheduled to take place in Beijing and Hong Kong.
Karolina Kurkova (Supermodel Coach)- @karolinakurkova
Often called one of the last true supermodels, the Czech-born Kurkova has established herself as a fashion and entertainment icon, most notably gracing best-selling covers of fashion magazines worldwide, starring in numerous high-fashion campaigns, co-starring in a hit film franchise, and producing/starring in an international reality TV series. After becoming the youngest model to grace the cover of American Vogue at age 16, and being lauded as the "next supermodel" by its famed editor Anna Wintour, Kurkova walked the runways of haute couture fashion shows including Alberta Ferretti and Alexander McQueen. In 2005, she was named one of Victoria Secret's Angels and subsequently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007. In 2009, Kurkova starred in the live action film “GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra” and went on to play guest-starring roles on NBC's TV series “Chuck” and “30 Rock.”
More than a beautiful face, Kurkova received an award from the non-profit organization "Women Together" for her humanitarian work. She continues to campaign for the welfare of children through organizations such as AmFar, New Yorkers for Children and Global Youth Action Network. She has also done work on behalf of the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and Wounded Warriors. Married in 2009, Kurkova's proudest accomplishment is the role of mom to her two year-old son, Tobin Jack.

Rocha is an avid blogger and has positioned herself as one of the most digitally savvy models of her generation with her widely followed blog, Twitter and Facebook. She was the first high fashion model to surpass one million followers on the social media platform Google+.

When So You Think You Can Dance takes a week off, what is there to do? Well, here's what I've contrived: a celebration of the nine greatest female reality and/or game show hosts. Cat Deeley just gets me in the mood to talk about reliable on-screen flair, you know? Without further ado, here's a nonet of distaff emcees who make their respective shows both fun and cool. (And I admit, I'm more sympathetic to game show hosts since they're simply tasked with more work.)

Remember when we tallied the 8 Most Annoying Gay Male Characters in TV History? That turned out to be very cathartic for me, and I thank you for joining me on that annoying journey. But the saga isn't over yet: Now we're counting off the nine most annoying reality TV stars in history, and I may need your help in naming offenders 10-150. Contribute those in the comments.
Word of caution: "Annoying" is sometimes an awesome trait. Definitely not always, but I make notice of the reality stars who rightfully wear the honor of "most annoying" like a badge of honor.

Word of caution: "Annoying" is sometimes an awesome trait. Definitely not always, but I make notice of the reality stars who rightfully wear the honor of "most annoying" like a badge of honor.

Next week brings the premiere of Don't Be Tardy for the Wedding, a Bravo show following Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak's as she plans her nuptials (riveting, I'm sure). Tardy has the unusual distinction of being a spinoff of a spinoff — well, it'd be unusual elsewhere, but not on Bravo. It's the second spinoff of a spinoff on Bravo this year alone. Tabatha Takes Over is a spinoff of Tabatha's Salon Takover, which itself was spun off of the first season of the tragically defunct hair-cutting competition show Shear Genius. And there's a show that goes a step further: Bethenny Ever After is a follow-up to Bethenny Getting Married, which is a spinoff of Real Housewives of New York, which is a spinoff of Real Housewives of Orange County. Of the 42 most recent shows (including upcoming shows that already have premiere dates), six are Real Housewives variants,...

Tabatha Coffey is one tough broad. The former "Shear Genius" conestant whipped so many hair salons into shape on three seasons of "Tabatha's Salon Takeover" that Bravo expanded her business makeover realm. With the fourth season, Coffey is now taking over and making over all kinds of businesses on "Tabatha Takes Over" (Tuesdays, 10 p.m. Et on Bravo). Up this week: A doggie daycare in Los Angeles called Barkingham Palace.
HuffPost TV sat down with Coffey to find out what else -- and who else -- she'd like to make over. She also dished on her TV guilty pleasures and whether or not, as a reality TV pro by now, she'd ever go on "Dancing With the Stars."
Watch our interview below for a dose of Tabatha's sass and honesty. (And our sincerest apologies to Helena Bonham Carter, but ... well, she's not entirely wrong.)...

First it was homes, then it was restaurants, and now it’s salons; nowadays, no place is safe from some sort of televised makeover. Tabatha’s Salon Takeover follows in the grand tradition of Kitchen Nightmares, with Tabatha Coffey, whose television career progressed rather rapidly from a win on the Bravo program Shear Genius to her own show, going into salons on the verge of ruin (if not already there). Once there, she revamps them by redecorating, restructuring, and ironing out the parts of the business that didn’t work. It’s straightforward and formulaic reality television, but it’s also easy to watch and an audience’s ability to enjoy the show has little to do with whether or not they care about hair styling.

Camila Alves is engaged to marry Matthew McConaughey, it was announced this weekend. But as women around the world curse her name for stealing the oft-shirtless "Lincoln Lawyer" star, they might also be asking who, exactly, is Camila Alves?
A 27-year old Brazilian, Alves is model, actress and TV host. Fans of Bravo TV know Alves as the host of season three of Shear Genius, the hair styling reality show, while habitual viewers of QVC know her from her hawking of her handbag line. However, do not confuse her with the Brazilian Camila Alves who can be found in the 2010 "The Confidant" and this year's Mma film "Choke."
As for her life with McConaughey, she is the mother of his two children, Levi, 3 and Vida, nearly 2. They've dated for the past four years.
Alves has made plenty of late night appearances, as well. Check out some of her most prominent appearances below.

Season two of Hairbattle Spectacular starts on Monday, August 15 with a new host at the helm. Actress and model Eva Marcille will usher the contestants through eight weeks of grueling challenges in a fight to see who can present the most elaborate, outlandish, outrageous and fantastical hairstyles.
Eva is no stranger to reality TV. She won cycle three of America's Next Top Model. But she is not just a ditzy catwalker. Eva the Diva, as she has been knows since childhood, was actually on track to become a lawyer when the runway series cast her that fateful season. Since then she has strutted in fashion shows worldwide, appeared on numerous magazine covers and launched an acting career. She's been on TV shows like Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Smallville and Everybody Hates Chris and movies like Crossover and I Think I Love My Wife.

Memorial Day 2011 is here and while we should all take time to thank a veteran and active servicemen and women, it also means for us TVphiles - lots of good programming. So either settle in with some popcorn or make sure your DVR is ready to go.
There are movie marathons. Syfy is busting out its greatest hits in the giant monster oeuvre on Friday, followed by "Star Trek" movies all weekend. TCM and AMC are showing nothing but military movies, including classics like "All Quiet on the Western Front," "From Here to Eternity" and "Patton."
If marathons are your thing, you've got everything from "Firefly" and "Doctor Who" to "House Hunters" and "How It's Made." And if you're a sports fan, while the NBA playoffs are on hiatus, you can still watch a ton of baseball, the 2011 French Open or the annual Memorial Day race the Indianapolis 500.

A fact of reality television life is that reality stars tend to have rather short lifespans. After all, how many folks recall who won the third season of Top Chef? Or who hosted the last season of Shear Genius?
And even fewer reality shows can honestly say they had a lasting impact on the pop culture landscape. But that certainly isn't true of Bravo's Queer Eye For the Straight Guy which ran from 2003 to 2007 producing 100 episodes and not only reshaping the Bravo network, but making gay men part of the zeitgeist in way they never had been before.
Carson Kressley
And one of those men helping make that impact was Carson Kressley, one of the few reality celebrities who has proven to have the talent and appeal to have fashioned a career long after his initial fifteen minutes of fame ended.

Tabatha Coffey is back tonight with her tough love,no-holds-barred approach to whipping hair salon owners into shape in seasonthree of Tabatha's Salon Takeover. Tabatha rose to fame as the edgy, villainess on Bravos'Shear Genius and although she was eliminated in week six for not being a teamplayer, the fans adored her. In fact she took home the $10,000 Fan Favoriteprize at the end of her season. And it is that attitude that keeps her fansflocking back to Tabatha's Salon Takeover. Since she has only one week totransform the fledgling businesses into functioning, pleasant workenvironments, she does not hold back on her criticism of the salon owners oremployees, driving many to tears.

The Real Housewives are taking over television, one cross-over at a time! I was so excited to see Atlanta Housewives on Ghost Hunters last night, even if they weren't there for very long and didn't see much. Next week, on The Fashion Show Ultimate Collection, the fashion houses will be designing clothes for the Real Housewives of New Jersey and the Real Housewives of Orange County. I'm all about it!
I love when we see the Housewives outside of their natural show habitat (showbitat? Let's just let this one go). In the past we've seen the Real Housewives of Orange County (and their kids) on Shear Genius, and Kim Zolciak just made an appearance as a guest judge on Hair Battle Spectacular. Here are some shows I'd like to see some Real Housewives cross into.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves sure do make some beautiful babies. The Brazilian model and host of Bravo's Shear Genius got down and dirty with son Levi, 2, and daughter, Vida, 9 months, in Malibu on Sunday, watching Levi ride his bike and helping a tutu-wearing Vida practice her first steps. Even while kicking back with the kiddies, Camila's playground style is bohemian and beautiful. Click through for Camila and the babies' playtime pics. How cute is the Alves-McConaughey family? When Bravo announced plans for an art-based reality competition, it seemed they were trying to squeeze more blood from a stone that dried up sometime after the first season of "Shear Genius" and well before "Launch My Line."
But "Work of Art: The Next Great Artist" ended up being one of the most unique offerings the network has put out in years, highlighting an eccentric niche of professionals and pushing them into situations where they could create thoughtful and diverse work -- a lot like the show that spawned it.
"Work of Art" captures the same excitement as the first season of "Project Runway," introducing a community foreign to most viewers and broadening their cultural perspective because of it. Like its predecessor, it even showcases work in a way that didn't leave us feeling as though we weren't experiencing the full effect. (Nothing but love for "Top Chef," but cooking...

Look out Shear Genius, there's a new coiffing show in town and this one is Extreme. Oxygen's Hair Battle Spectacular premieres tonight at 10:00 Pm, with ten hairdressers going head-to-head to see who's the best in fantasy hair design. Hosted by Brooke Burns (of the new Melrose Place, Dog Eat Dog, and Baywatch fame) the competitors will live together in a house while their visions walk a weekly hair battle runway to win $100,000.
Never heard of fantasy hair design? The show's creators say it's "part sculpture and part pop art." The series mixes Project Runway with Shear Genius and throws in a dash of Ace of Cakes for good measure. The designs range from hairstyles that look like wedding cakes to toys with moving pieces. It promises not to disappoint.

Do you love this show? I love this show. I had high hopes for it and I'm glad it didn't turn out to be another Shear Genius (a real turd of a show).
I love that they did self-portraits before the show, and the artists seem really likeable, too (except that rude Nao lady).
The first challenge was for the artists to make a portrait of one of their other contestants. It would be weird and difficult to do a portrait of another artist (because they are all kind of weirdos).
I like this show, but what is up with Sarah Jessica Parker? Sorry but . . . why is she here? (aside from the fact that she's the executive producer)?...

Former Top Chef contestant Marcel Vigneron is coming to SyFy. So are a trio of reality TV shows.
This network is the latest to pack its programming with a few non-scripted series. They'll each premiere over the next couple months and are previewed below:
Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen has a confusing title and will star Vigneron (pictured) as he starts up a new catering and event company. Paranormal Witness will introduce someone each week that believes he or she has been in contact with a spirit of some kind. Face Off is like Shear Genius... just for special effects instead of makeup artists.

Camila Alves takes Levi along for a little grocery shopping — on wheels! — at Safeway on Wednesday in Malibu, Calif.
The day before heading out for a spin with her 22-month-old son, Alves was spotted at a Victoria’s Secret event, where the Shear Genius host was named “Momshell.”
Alves, 27, and Matthew McConaughey are also parents to daughter Vida, 4 months.

Her famous boyfriend likes to run around shirtless, but this celeb seems to prefer going barefoot. The hot mama and TV host was snapped shoeless while shopping in Malibu—we hope she was looking for some new kicks. Think you know who's stepping out sans shoes? Find out after the jump... It's Camila Alves, host of Bravo's Shear Genius and mother to Matthew McConaughey's two children. Somehow, we doubt shirts and shoes are required in their hippie household.

One of the most anticipated episodes of any season of 'The Biggest Loser' is the one we've come to know as "Makeover Week." After months on campus, shedding pounds and transforming their lives on the inside, the contestants get the chance to showcase their new physique with a fresh wardrobe and professional styling.
This season, they were treated to a new hairstyle by Jonathan Antin of 'Shear Genius' fame. They were then ushered into a room of mirrors where, unbeknownst to them, loved ones were witnessing their new look just as they were taking it in. All of this was in anticipation of a special private concert performed by Ashanti to celebrate their monumental achievements.
Check out pictures of the six remaining contestants -- before and after their makeovers.

Have you ever seen RuPaul’s Drag Race? It’s simply one of the most entertaining shows on TV. Part Project Runway part Shear Genius part Extreme Makeover (not the Home Edition), this show bares all to the audience. Except a few choice bits that get tucked away for the behind the scenes videos called, appropriately enough Untucked.
If you haven’t been watching or don’t get Logo you don’t have to miss all the teased out, penciled on fun. The RuPaul’s Drag Race website is a kick. There you can catch up on all of the episodes you’ve missed (and Season 1, too, if you’re really addicted), upload a photo to the Dragulator and get a man sized make-over, find a casting call for Season 3, and locate a viewing party near you (now that should be fun).
The final four will go head-to-head tonight as...

After a four month hiatus, Glee is back tomorrow night and we're not the only ones with Glee fever. Check out this awesome clip with the cast and crew of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon going head-to-head in a faux show choir competition with the gang from Parks and Recreation. You have to watch it over and over to see the subtle nuances each and every member of the teams brings to the performance. Shear genius.
The New Directions better watch their backs. Did I hear someone say guest spot for Jimmy Fallon and Amy Poehler?
While you wait for Tuesday night's episode, you can partake in the Glee fun, too. Fox started "GLEEk Week" last Monday geared toward making fans part of the Glee community. Here are some of the highlights:
1) Photo Booth. The cast of Glee have taken their pictures inside a photo booth and now you can...

Who won 'Shear Genius' 3? Who really care? Okay, I'm only joking. I can't say I've ever watched an episode of Bravo's reality series "Shear Genius", a hair-cutting competition with a big budget, but I'm aware that a lot of you readers are fans of the show and you're probably wondering who won the show's third season. Am I right?
I did some research for the series and noticed that in recent weeks, Matthew and Janine have been on top of their competiiton with Brig struggling to hold on. Of course, over the last couple of weeks, Janine has been sinking while Brig has been catching up.
In the past two weeks, Janine won two Short Cut Challenges and one Elimination Challenge but she failed to win on March 31st. With support from both Jonathan Antin and Camila, it was almost certain Matthew would be the winner of "Shear Genius'" third season.

All good things must come to an end… tune in tonight as we say farewell to season 3 of Shear Genius. The third season comes to a close as the final three stylists team up with fashion designer Henry Duarte for their biggest challenge yet: each will have to style six models for a fashion show where the designer will debut Duarte’s new line of edgy rock-and-roll inspired clothing. Of course, it wouldn’t be a finale without a guest appearance. A few familiar faces return to assist the final three in this no-holds-barred, two day long challenge. Editor-in-chief of Allure Magazine Linda Wells rejoins as the final guest judge.
Who will “wow” both her and the judges to be named “Shear Genius”? To find out, tune in for Bravo’s Shear Genius 3 *Season Finale* Wednesday 4/7 @ 10/9c. Sneak peek just ahead:

Just a few hours left until the second season of Top Chef Masters, which I'm excited about because the first was so fantastic, and far exceeded the latest regular edition. It returns tonight on Bravo at 11 p.m. Et, fa owing the fine uh chowin on She Jean Us--i mean, Shear Genius. The trailer for the new season (below) does have me slightly concerned, since it emphasizes drama and conflict. One of the best things...

With only 4 stylists left in the competition, Camilla ups the ante and sends them to a Hollywood Hills mansion to work on their first celebrity client in their own home. Will the contestants be able to adapt outside of the salon setting? Then, their skills are really put to the test as iconic stylist Oribe pays a visit as a guest judge. Whose looks impress the legendary guest and who will be sent home? Find out Wednesday 3/31 @ 10/9c on Shear Genius.

Moments before the Top 10 took to the "Idol" stage to sing soul and R&B songs, an "Idol" blogger colleague messaged me on Twitter freaking out. "Gahhh! Jim, season nine needs to start getting serious. It's getting out of hand. Maybe tonight will be the night."
My reply?
"Well, it certainly can't get any worse."
On that note, let's get to the performances!
Siobhan Magnus
Song: "Through the Fire" by Chaka Khan
Verdict: Through the Ringer
Ever wondered what it would sound like if Marlee Matlin sang in a wind tunnel? You're in luck, because Siobhan Magnus' take on Chaka Khan's classic provided just that! Boys and girls, step right up and see the incredible shrieking shrinking woman! Marvel at how quickly the Queen of Quirk can become as boring and atonal as previous seasons' ear-terrorists Jasmine Trias, Ramiele Malubay and Carmen Rasmusen!
