M. Night Shyamalan is a fellow of many talents. 25 years after his breakout success "The Sixth Sense" and the man can still throw a curveball like nobody's business, as evidenced by the twisty premise for his upcoming Josh Hartnett vehicle "Trap" (watch the trailer). The maestro of low-budget horror-driven thrillers also has a knack for sending Film Twitter into a frenzy with his boldly divisive work, with 2023's "Knock at the Cabin" being but the latest example.
Adapted from Paul G. Tremblay's 2018 novel "The Cabin at the End of the World," Shyamalan's entry in the tradition of cabin-based horror movies follows a small family -- two dads and their young daughter -- as their vacation is interrupted by a group of home invaders. As it turns out, these strangers might just be the actual Horsemen of the Apocalypse, having shared visions of a world-ending catastrophe that led them to this place.

Willie Aames, best known for his teen actor roles in Eight is Enough and Charles in Charge, is set to star alongside Natalie Grace in the dark comedy Armageddon Road.
The indie, written, directed and produced by Karen Lam, is shooting in British Columbia. Set in Las Vegas in 1976, Armageddon Road follows a hapless ex-con hired by a mob boss to chauffeur his girlfriend for an evening, only to find his passenger dies of a cocaine overdose.
After her body is taken over by one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the driver is convinced to take her to what will be Armageddon in the Nevada desert. Opiate Pictures Inc. and Black Moon Media are producing the film that will use miniature sets created by Gary Young (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, The Predator and Godzilla) to be projected on an LED volume wall the actors will use as a backdrop for their performances.

The folks at Platinum Dunes, the production company headed up by Michael Bay and Bradley Fuller, clearly love working with director Jonathan Liebesman. After working with Liebesman on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, they had him attached to direct their reboot of Friday the 13th for a while – and even though Liebesman wasn’t at the helm of that one by the time it went into production, they did work with him again, on their 2014 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, a decade later, Platinum Dunes and Jonathan Liebesman are re-teaming for a werewolf movie called Wolf Night.
Deadline wasn’t able to dig up much information on Wolf Night, but they did learn that the project is being described as “District 9 by way of The Purge“. Will Honley, whose writing credits include Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, wrote the screenplay with April Maguire.

If you're an "X-Men" fan, you should be listening to the "Cerebro" podcast. The host, literary agent/"X-Men" historian Connor Goldsmith, and a guest (usually an "X-Men" writer or fan of some repute) discuss a chosen character — both their history and why they resonate.
The 101st episode of "Cerebro" (released May 2023) featured comic writer Jonathan Hickman, who relaunched the X-Men comics alongside artist Pepe Larraz in 2019 with intersecting miniseries "House of X" & "Powers of X" (the latter pronounced like the number 10). For the episode, they discuss En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse, the most infamous X-Men antagonist not named Magneto.
Writer Louise Simonson and artist Jackson "Butch" Guice created Apocalypse in 1986 as the shadowy villain for their book "X-Factor." He was revealed to be an immortal mutant, possibly the very first one. Born in Ancient Egypt, Apocalypse has shaped the curve of history to Herbert Spencer's survival of the fittest ethos.

About nine months ago, we heard that Michael Bay and Brad Fuller are reviving their production company Platinum Dunes at Universal – and now Deadline reports that one of the movies we’ll be getting from the revived Platinum Dunes is the supernatural horror film Lure, with Corin Hardy (The Nun) directing. Chris Bernier (Halloween Ends) is currently writing the screenplay.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, we do know that Lure is based on the haunting of the real-life King’s Tavern, considered to be the most haunted building in all of Mississippi, with one of its tenants being the murdered mistress of one of the tavern’s original owners.
I hadn’t heard of King’s Tavern before this announcement, but Wikipedia informs that the place is one of the oldest buildings in Natchez, Mississippi, as it was first build in 1769. It’s also considered to be...

With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund may be most celebrated for his extensive music video and concert film output, collaborating with everyone from Madonna to Metallica, Roxette to Rammstein, the Smashing Pumpkins to the Prodigy. His movies, however, brim with an equally intense aesthetic and off-the-cuff kineticism: Spun, Åkerlund's delirious 2002 debut feature, is now widely considered a pinnacle of drug-culture–cinema epics; Small Apartments, his 2012 movie about an outsider searching for his place in the world, would probably attain similar cult status if only it'd reached a larger audience. [Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Twin Peaks” Episode 8 titled “Part 8 – Gotta Light?”]
What was only hinted at in the third episode of “Twin Peaks” became a full-blown surrealistic experience in Sunday’s avant-garde “Part 8.”
Despite the experimental filmmaking and very little dialogue, the 50-minute bombardment of sound and fury coalesced into an intriguing origin story that promised a lot more sense in the contemporary story to come. Giving historical context to some of the things we’ve seen so far anchors the story in a way that it hasn’t been before. But this wasn’t just the story of one birth, but of many. Let’s break those and a few other theories down:

Another day, another retailer leaking out details of a game that hasn't been announced yet. In an effort to get ahead of the story, THQNordic has confirmed Darksiders III with a swanky new trailer!
After Amazon inadvertantly (or possibly advertantly) posted a retail page for Darksiders III, THQNordic wasted no time in confirming the leak to be true, acknowledging that the developer had been in cahoots with the Gunfire Games studio to create a 3rd game in the Darksiders franchise. Since that wouldn't be enough to sate our thirst for more, they gave IGN the honors to release the first trailer for Darksiders III.
Just as Dustin reported in his previous article, Darksiders III follows Fury, the sister of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as she tries to fend off the seven deadly sins that are ravaging the mortal world.
As of now, Darksiders III is slated for a 2018 release date.

Christian movies: Starring Nicolas Cage, the widely panned 2014 apocalyptic thriller 'Left Behind' was a box office bomb – unlike (relatively) recent popular 'faith movies' such as 'Heaven Is for Real,' 'Son of God' and 'War Room.' A thought on the New Christian American Cinema: Tired of the blatant propaganda found in 'mainstream' Christian movies Two films that might be called “Christian movies” opened last week, and I decided that I wouldn't watch them, write about them, or review them – at least directly. I'm not even going to mention their titles here because I don't promote propaganda films, and that's what this recent advent of Christian movies has become: propaganda. After all, since nearly all American cinema is Christian cinema, the New Christian American Cinema is in fact pure propaganda – not cinema. Worse yet, it bores me. So, here's the thing about what we've come to call...

Editor Thelma Schoonmaker talks to us about Martin Scorsese’s new film, Silence, taking risks in filmmaking and lots more...
Name a great Scorsese movie, and it’ll almost certainly have been edited by Thelma Schoonmaker. From 1980 onwards, the pair have been inseparable, with Schoonmaker cutting such classics as Raging Bull, The King Of Comedy, After Hours, Goodfellas, Casino and Gangs Of New York. Scorsese’s latest film is Silence, a powerful, heartfelt period piece about the limits of faith. Starring Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver as a pair of Jesuit priests who witness the torture and execution of Christians in 17th century Japan, the movie is a stark tonal contrast to The Wolf Of Wall Street, Scorsese’s wilfully gaudy, giddy account of drug-addled millionaire corporate crook Jordan Belfort.

Despite opening its doors in 2005, comic book artist Joe Madureira’s Vigil Games didn’t bring anything to market until 2010, when it unleashed the original Darksiders unto the world. A debut effort worth celebrating, it did a great job of mixing God of War-inspired combat with the puzzle solving and large-scale exploration of a game like Zelda, with an interesting story to boot. However, as is sometimes the case, the mash-up’s release window did it no favours, given that Platinum’s beloved Bayonetta launched in close proximity and took the brunt of gamers’ attention.
As someone who played through both of those titles at release, I’ve always held the opinion that Darksiders didn’t get the attention it deserved, and that it still doesn’t. Sure, it has a fanbase and was enjoyed by those who played it, and while I may be in the minority in saying this,...

"Blackwater." "The Watchers on the Wall." "Hardhome." "The Battle of the Bastards." It's rare enough for characters on a TV show to become household names, but on Game of Thrones, all it takes is a major battle for an episode title to lodge into pop-culture consciousness – like a sword plunged through steel armor.
So far, HBO's smash-hit series has served up a quartet of colossal clashes: the episode-spanning fights for King's Landing and Castle Black that served as climaxes for Seasons Two and Four, and the shorter but no less...

Designer Andy Hunt recently launched a Kickstarter for NecronomiCards, a strategy card game inspired by both mythological and Lovecraftian themes and creatures, and we have official details and a look at the game.
From Andy Hunt: “Introducing NecronomiCards, a fast-paced card game for 2-4 necromancers-in-training whose idea of a good time is to spend 30-45 minutes (or more) attacking each other with horrific monsters and ancient deities. Does that sound like you? Then you’re in the right place, new best friend!
NecronomiCards is a deviously simple game to learn. You start with two decks of cards: Spells and Summons.
Spell cards each have 4-6 different magic symbols on them. Each player starts with 2 Spell cards and then draws 1 new card every turn. You can never have more than 6 Spell cards in your hand at once though. The goal is to pair up matching symbols across your Spell cards to create hands,...

Those of you who stayed through the end credits of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies know that the end of the narrative is hardly the end of the full story for Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. As we see in the mid-credits sequence, the zombie George Wickham (Jack Huston) actually managed to survive his duel with Darcy, and has assembled an army of the dead as well as the Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse for revenge. The best thing about a new year approaching is all the 2016 movie previews. And the best thing about all the 2016 movie previews is the unveiling of new images from our most anticipated releases, including some related television series we're looking forward to. Check out some must-see first or continued looks below. X-Men: Apocalypse Think Magneto is already plenty powerful? Well, the new X-Men movie is making him even stronger. Michael Fassbender's villainous character teams up with bigger bad Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) in the sequel as one of the latter's Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and heightened magnetic powers is one of the perks that comes with that job. The concept art here shows what that perk looks like: "One of Apocalypse’s many...

The first full trailer for "X-Men: Apocalypse" dropped this morning, and it's bursting with new characters, explosive action sequences, and a feeling of dread that can really only be applied to a film with "Apocalypse" for a subtitle.
The literally-dark mood certainly suggests the end of days, and the clip begins with Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) waking with a start, telling Professor X (James McAvoy) that she "saw the end of the world," littered with death. X assures her it was just a dream, but it turns out to be a very real nightmare soon enough.
Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), believed to be the first-ever mutant, has awakened from an ancient sleep, and makes quick work of taking over the minds of several mutants, harnessing Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Angel (soon-to-be-Archangel, Ben Hardy), and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) into his own version of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Say what you will about remasters, but they’re here to stay. In fact, they’ve become so engrained in the video game industry that it seems like a new one is released every few weeks. Maybe that’s not the case, but there certainly have been a lot of them. You won’t find me complaining, though, because I’m in the camp that enjoys going back to big games from yesteryear and experiencing them in visually enhanced form. And, when they’re handled with care, it’s tough to really knock them unless you’re someone who shuns the whole idea for simply being a cash grab.
One remaster that I was really looking forward to was Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, Nordic Games’ made over re-release of Vigil Games’ thoroughly impressive action RPG. It releases this week, although you wouldn’t know it. With Fallout 4, Rise of the...

Oscar Isaac may have shown HBO and its legions of viewers a hero in Paul Haggis’ compelling political drama, but for 20th Century Fox’s high-profile juggernaut X-Men: Apocalypse, the star is very much situated on the other end of the moral spectrum.
That’s because he’ll be embodying the titular villain – a glowering, 5,000 year old mutant primed to unleash Old Testament levels of destruction upon man and mutantkind alike. Awakening from his prolonged slumber, Isaac’s menace assembles the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to complete his world-shaking plan, and in a recent interview with The Playlist, the actor touched upon what it’s like to portray a character who holds absolute power.

X-Men: Apocalypse brings to life one of the most powerful villains in the entire X-Men comics, En Sabah Nur. Oscar Isaac plays the ancient mutant in Bryan Singer's film, and although we already got a first look at what he'll look like, there's still one pressing question X-Men fans want to know: who will be his Four Horsemen? Isaac took the Hall H stage at San Diego Comic-Con with his fellow cast members and he finally revealed who the lucky henchmen (and women) are. While Apocalypse is an insanely powerful mutant in the comic books, another thing he likes to do is find wayward mutants, brainwash them and physically enhance them into becoming his principal warriors. They are named after the biblical Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and are nicknamed Famine, War, Pestilence and Death. The comics have featured a variety of characters in these roles, but for the...

Until I say otherwise, take it as a given that I love this show for its complex story and its fascinating characters. That’s the baseline that I’m working from.
I was all like, Hey, look what happens when you can bend and be flexible, learn to compromise, here’s Tyrion and Dany getting along so well, and Jon and the Wildlings coming to a truce, if an uneasy one, contrast that with Cersei who uses people instead of working with them and look how that gets her thrown in a cell and sucking spilt water off the stone floor,...

The Horsemen look set to reunite once more after Nordic Games today confirmed the existence of Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition for PlayStation 4.
Earlier this year, Amazon seemingly outed the remaster when it listed the HD remake for a release on Sony’s platform later this year. Now, three months later, the publisher has confirmed this retail post to be true, though remained curiously quiet about a potential Xbox One version at the time of writing.
If the grammar Nazi inside you is cringing at the atypical title, fear not; in Darksiders II, players take control of Death, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Well, we didn’t say it was a very clever moniker now did we?
Nonetheless, according to the original post, the Deathinitive Edition will be made available for $40, and there’s little information about a release date other than the fact that Nordic has ensured...
