This story was partially filmed for the original Dutch version of Floris (1969), but only partially completed before production was shut down prematurely. In 2016 the raw footage resurfaced and was assembled, using images from the 1972 comic strip adaptation to make up for the missing material.
In Gerard Soeteman's original script, the woodcutter Douwe had a real daughter named Linda who was kidnapped by the villains. In the German remake, this was changed to a children's doll he felt unnaturally attached to.
