The late Matthew Perry was a man of many talents venturing into several mediums of entertainment. While many people know him as Chandler Bing from Friends, he has also made some successful films over the years including Fools Rush In, The Whole Nine Yards, and 17 Again. The actor also made his theatre debut in 2003 with the play Sexual Perversity in Chicago.

He went on to become a playwright with his next venture, The End of Longing, where he plays an exaggerated version of himself named Jack. Jumping from a hit show like Friends to creating/starring in a Broadway show was a completely different experience. The actor stated that he was spoiled by the ‘royal’ treatment on TV shows and he got a reality check while making his play.

Back in 2016, “Your Name” established Makoto Shinkai as the ‘next Miyazaki', both in terms of quality and box office success, becoming the fifth highest grossing film of all time in the country – domestic or imported – and the second biggest domestic film ever, behind the Oscar-winning “Spirited Away”. It was also the first anime not directed by Hayao Miyazaki to earn more than $100 million at the Japanese box office.

There are many actors whose public image will forever be defined by one iconic role. Al Pacino and Michael Corleone. Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter. Zac Efron and Troy Bolton.
To millions of millennials and zoomers, Zachary David Alexander Efron will forever be associated with his role as Troy in Disney’s “High School Musical” trilogy of TV films. A cultural phenomenon that remains a beloved nostalgic favorite today, the franchise made Efron a teen idol at 18, and “The Iron Claw” star’s performance as romantic lead Troy forever defined his public image moving forward: an impossibly earnest sweetheart jock, the type of high school heartthrob that could only exist in a Disney version of reality.
A straight to TV movie musical for tweens isn’t the most prestigious way to begin your career, but Efron, for his part, has mostly spoken fondly about the experience in the years since.

When Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” came out in 2008, Zac Efron was two movies deep into the Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” franchise, in which he played singing, dancing basketball phenom Troy Bolton. He’d been the swoony romantic lead in the movie musical “Hairspray,” opposite John Travolta and Michelle Pfeiffer, was shortly to play opposite Matthew Perry in “17 Again,” and had pulled his T-shirt up on the cover of Rolling Stone under the headline “The New American Heartthrob.” At 21, Efron might have seemed like the kind of actor who was as likely to watch footage of the moon landing and decide to become an astronaut as he was to take inspiration from Mickey Rourke’s grizzled, broken-down performance.
And yet. “That film impacted me in a really specific way,” he recalls over lunch in Los Angeles. “I was watching it with my dad, and I remember looking at him in that moment,...

At this point, the body switch comedy genre is pretty well worn. Big, Freaky Friday (twice), 17 Again, 13 Going on 30, etc., have pretty much defined and exhausted what can be done with the concept to keep it fresh. The latter 2004 hit actually starred Jennifer Garner, who is now returning to the genre again, this time as producer and star of Netflix’s holiday comedy Family Switch.
This time around, the formula is expanded to have an entire family experience a life-altering cosmic moment and become their opposites. The parents become their kids, the kids become their parents, even the baby becomes the French Bulldog. Guess what? It works, even offering some Lol moments along the way in a movie that isn’t trying to reinvent anything here, just finding a new angle to squeeze some more life out of it.

Zac Efron says he is “honored to hear” that his late 17 Again co-star Matthew Perry had recently expressed a wish to see the younger actor portray the Friends star in a biopic.
“I’m honored to hear he was thinking of me to play him,” Efron told People magazine yesterday during a Dallas red carpet interview for the film The Iron Claw. “We’ll see. I’d be honored to do it.”
Continued Efron: “He was a mentor to me, and we made a really cool film together. I looked up to him, I learned comedic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming 17 Again, it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there, because I’ve learned so much from him, from his whole life.”

An initial toxicology report has ruled out some potential causes for the recent, untimely death of "Friends" star Matthew Perry. According to a recent report by TMZ, an initial test revealed that the late actor did not have meth or fentanyl in his system at the time of his passing. Perry was found dead in his hot tub at his home in Los Angeles over the weekend. He was just 54 years old.
The outlet cautions that "more in-depth tests are still being conducted" to see if any other illegal drugs were present in his blood at the time of his passing, and "if the levels of any prescription meds were at harmful doses." Those more in-depth toxicology results could take months to be revealed.

Matthew Perry Remembered by ‘Odd Couple’ Co-Star Thomas Lennon: He ‘Was Always Trying to Get Better’
“Reno 911!” star Thomas Lennon worked closely with Matthew Perry on the CBS remake of “The Odd Couple,” which aired for three seasons and 38 episodes from 2015 and 2017. Perry developed and executive produced the show (with Danny Jacobson and Joe Keenan) and starred as Oscar Madison, opposite Lennon as Felix Unger. Lindsay Sloane, Yvette Nicole Brown and Wendell Pierce also starred in the series, based of course on the Neil Simon play (later made famous as a TV sitcom in the 1970s). It was a reunion for Lennon and Perry, who also worked together on the 2009 film “17 Again.” In that comedy, Perry and Lennon play best friends. Variety asked Lennon to offer his memories of working with Perry over the years; below, he shares this tribute.

For an entire generation, Matthew Perry was the personification of sublime wit and effortless ease with one-liners, thanks to his role as the hapless Chandler Bing on “Friends.”
Among the show’s male stars, Ross (David Schwimmer) was the goofy one and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) was the charming one. But Chandler, he was the witty one. And while ably aided by the NBC hit comedy’s writing, it was Perry’s masterful technique wringing as many laughs as possible out of a punchline that helped elevate the character into TV’s pantheon of all-time greats.
With his sudden death Saturday at age 54 following what appeared to be an accidental drowning, the world mourns the loss of a troubled actor who gave it so much joy and genuine laughter. The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.

The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Zac Efron has accomplished a feat that Disney stars historically struggle with: making a smooth transition from teen idol to adult actor. For a decade and counting, Efron's name has been nearly synonymous with the word "heartthrob." Ask someone who their celebrity crush is, and there's a good chance they'll name the "High School Musical" alum. But over the last 17 years, Efron has charted a steady and increasingly impressive path for himself in the film industry, proving he's here to stay.
Efron has carved out a niche that suits his talents, starring in primarily comedies and musicals, and while his catalog includes plenty of films that weren't critical or commercial hits, his talent shines through regardless. Further, with starring roles in dramas like "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile" and "The Iron Claw," Efron is currently making a major transition to serious, dramatic work. It's a challenge he's proven he can handle.

Matthew Perry wants to be "17 Again" again. The "Friends" and "Go On" actor went on SiriusXM's Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw this week to talk about his new book. In the memoir, titled "Friends, Lovers, And The Big Terrible Thing," Perry mentions projects he has in the works, and Shaw asked him for some specifics about his unproduced film ideas. Perry then spilled the news that he wrote a script for a rom-com that he'd hoped would land a lead in Zac Efron. The film isn't related to the 2009 fantasy romance the pair starred in together, but would mark an on-screen reunion for the two, as Perry wrote himself a small role as well.
"I finished a screenplay that we're out with to some people. I want to direct that," Perry said on the podcast. "I have a small part in it. I wrote it for myself,...

Zac Efron turned down the opportunity to play Matthew Perry again, the Friends actor revealed.
Efron and Perry co-starred in the 2009 movie 17 Again, in which the fictional 37-year-old Mike O'Donnell (Perry) is transformed back into his 17-year-old self (Efron) after expressing his regrets in life.
While promoting his new memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, on SiriusXM’s Pop Culture Spotlight With Jessica Shaw, Perry revealed that he is currently shopping around the screenplay for a rom-com he’s written.
Perry said that he wrote the lead role for himself only to realise that he was 20 years too old for the part.
Asked who his “dream younger version” of himself was by host Shaw, Perry replied: “Well, it was Zac Efron. But he said no. So, we’ve got to find someone who says yes.”
As for the female lead, Perry said that The White Lotus star Aubrey Plaza “almost did it.
