Moretz approached the role of Carrie White in a different way than she’s approached her other characters. The actor is no stranger to starring in dark material. One of her first roles was in the horror feature The Amityville Horror. She’d also starred in projects perhaps even heavier in tone such as The Poker House and Let Me In. But when it came to Carrie, Moretz saw the opportunity to delve deeper into the titular character than she had in other dark projects.

Dr. Anthony Garcia seemed to lead a successful life, with a house on a quiet street in Terre Haute, Indiana, and a Ferrari parked in the driveway.
Behind closed doors, however, police say it seemed the opposite: His life was “falling apart.”
On Friday, NBC’s Dateline will explore the troubled life of Garcia, a once-promising University of Utah medical school graduate turned serial killer.
Police say he was driven by a years-long revenge plot after he was fired from Nebraska’s Creighton University in 2001 and was dogged by bad references from his former supervisors.

"Aaaagggghhhh!" That was Meryl Streep's reaction after learning she had earned her 30th Golden Globe Award nomination. Behind closed doors, that's how we assume most of this year's nominees felt when they learned they had been granted a Golden Globe nod, many for the first time in their brief or lengthy careers. Meanwhile, as the names streamed in, there was cause for celebration on a broader front. After the #OscarsSoWhite controversy of 2016, it seems Hollywood is steadily understanding how to celebrate and uplift stars that do not fit into one particular shell. The diversity of the upcoming ceremony wasn't limited to race alone. The members of this year's nominee...

Heyyy, fake Uncle Jack. Tony Hale — whom you may remember from such television comedies as “Veep” and “Arrested Development” — took to Reddit for an Ask Me Anything session today, with the lion’s share of questions revolving around his two best-known characters. Asked whether he and “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus improvise any of their many scenes together, for instance, he responded that “They give us 2 weeks of rehearsal before we shoot and they allow us to play with the material. They work very hard on the scripts but allow us that freedom.”
Read More: Review: ‘Veep’ Predicts the Apocalypse With a Stunning Twist
That amount of rehearsal is “very rare,” for TV, he said in a follow-up. “Typically you show up and shoot.” That may have been the case for his one-off “Community” appearance, which Hale called “Great. I love Joel McHale and the Russo Brothers directed the episode who directed the pilot of ‘Arrested Development.'” (The Russo Brothers also directed “Captain America: Civil War,” which unfortunately doesn’t likewise feature Hale.)

Other questions and answers were less serious, like how the producers of “Veep” have managed to shoot around the hook hand his “Arrested Development” character acquired after losing his actual hand to a seal (“They’ve used CGI”) or what Hale’s favorite book is (“My daughter’s 4th grade essay…she killed it.”) Read the full Ama on Reddit.

Jennifer Lawrence swept into Hollywood like a hurricane, a comparison referring both to the relative suddenness of her celebrity as well as the young woman’s penchant for tripping and falling into things, people, really whatever’s close by. It’s rare for actors to rocket from obscurity to household-name status with the speed that Lawrence has, even actors as personable, lovely, and preternaturally talented as she. After a few years in barely-existent roles on TV (with the exception of an extended stint as the typical sitcom teenage daughter on “The Bill Engvall Show”), Lawrence trudged through exactly two little-seen indies ("Garden Party" and "The Poker House") before landing in a miscalculated prestige picture that nonetheless afforded her the opportunity to do some fine work. For her fourth appearance in a feature film, Lawrence stumbled into an Oscar nomination, and from there it was game, set, match. Lawrence sometimes acts like the successful product of.

When he spoke these words, Italian film director Sergio Sollima, who died this week at age 94, was referring to his love of travel, of the ability to visit far-flung parts of the world, observing and absorbing varied and unfamiliar cultures afforded to him by his career. But he always seemed to translate that love of observation and experience to even his grimiest, most disreputable thrillers, infusing his films with vitality and a distinct political thrust that often separated them from the more routine product of the Italian film and television industry of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Sollima was born in Rome in 1921 and as a young man graduated from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, the Italian national film school established in 1935. He started out writing film criticism but soon moved toward crafting plays and screenplays. The first of them to be produced, "Behind Closed Doors" (1951), on which he was one of four writers,...

Chicago – Lori Petty will never be predictable, nor put into some show business box. The free-wheelin’ Ms. P applies her expansive performance skills to the role of Lolly – a guest spot that turned into a recurring character – on Netflix’s hot series “Orange is the New Black,” which released its third season on June 12th, 2015.
Lori Petty has gone through several show business lives. She began her career in the late 1980s, and established herself in popular films like “Point Break,” “A League of Their Own” – she wears a Rockford Peaches hat in Joe Arce’s Exclusive Portrait that accompanies this interview – and “Free Willy.” She readjusted her image from ingenue to badass in “Tank Girl,” and has gone on to character roles that exemplify that image. She even directed the film, “The Poker House” (2008), that featured the movie debut of Jennifer Lawrence.

Danielle Darrieux turns 97: Darrieux has probably enjoyed the longest film star career in history (photo: Danielle Darrieux in ‘La Ronde’) Screen legend Danielle Darrieux is turning 97 today, May 1, 2014. In all likelihood, the Bordeaux-born (1917) Darrieux has enjoyed the longest "movie star" career ever: eight decades, from Wilhelm Thiele’s Le Bal (1931) to Denys Granier-Deferre’s The Wedding Cake / Pièce montée (2010). (Mickey Rooney has had a longer film career — nearly nine decades — but mostly as a supporting player in minor roles.) Absurdly, despite a prestigious career consisting of more than 100 movie roles, Danielle Darrieux — delightful in Club de femmes, superb in The Earrings of Madame De…, alternately hilarious and heartbreaking in 8 Women — has never won an Honorary Oscar. But then again, very few women have. At least, the French Academy did award her an Honorary César back in 1985; additionally, in 2002 Darrieux and her fellow 8 Women / 8 femmes co-stars shared Best Actress honors...
