Augustus sees his daughter, Rosetta in a futuristic dream early in the film. She reappears later during his present times. Rosetta Douglass, later wrote "My Mother as I Recall Her" in 1900 and was a founding member of the National Association for Colored Women.
Young Augustus reads "The Lady of the Lake," a narrative poem by Sir Walter Scott, first published in 1810 at the beginning of the film. A hint as to whom AUGUSTUS is truly about.
