The first (1st) episode in season two (2) review:
Mrs. Shullivan and I just finished watching the first episode of season 2 which focuses on Richard Jewel, who is considered the hero of the Centennial Olympic Park bombing at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. At first glance we see him as an unfulfilled security guard still living at home with his mother while working a pre-Olympic AT&T concert who is not taken seriously, but rather as a pest by the people who he is assigned to protect, and even a bigger pest by the Atlanta Georgia police. That is until Richard's insistence that the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) be called in to assess whether or not an abandoned military style knapsack is a threat, or just a forgotten knapsack with personal items inside.
What follows in episode one (1) of season two (2) is Richard Jewell appears to be the unassuming hero of the day saving countless lives because of his stubbornness to follow all security rules and protocols which is what he was hired to do. In actuality all Richard was hoping for was to use his temporary work assignment as a security guard at the 1996 Summer Olympics to add to his resume and eventually get hired as a real police officer.
This is based on a series of real events but I am not sure how accurate this story line is when the FBI takes over the investigation, Richard Jewell's former employer comes forward after seeing him appear on CNN and he divulges a rather darker side to the assumed hero of the day.
It certainly grabbed Mrs. Shullivan and my attention and we look forward to next week's continuing episode. Clint Eastwood developed a feature film in 2019 on the storyline which I am glad I have yet to see as Mrs. Shullivan and I can watch this mini-series with any undue influence. I would expect that over ten (10) episodes this series will go more into depth than the 2019 feature film was able to do but for now it's a wait and see game.
So far, so good, and I give this first episode an 8 out of 10 IMDB rating.
