For the past week or so, Today’s viewers have seen Dylan Dreyer appear as part of the lineup of NBC shows.
While Dylan is not unfamiliar with this role, her colleague Al Roker has been a main star with NBC’s Today for what seems like forever.
The 69-year-old has been a journalist, meteorologist, and television show host since 1974.
Among his other notable appearances are hosting the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which runs through New York City.

Bears. Beats. Battlestar Galactica. B-list roles. The Office star Rainn Wilson – who played bespectacled, mustard shirt-wearing Dwight K. Schrute on the Emmy-winning series – admits he grew dissatisfied with his career while filming the NBC show, saying he wanted more out of his career.
Speaking on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Rainn Wilson remembered, “When I was in The Office, I spent several years really mostly unhappy because it wasn’t enough…I’m realizing I’m on a hit show, Emmy nominated every year, making lots of money, working with Steve Carell and Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski and these amazing writers and incredible directors like Paul Feig. I’m on one of the great TV shows. People love it.” “Enough” for Rainn Wilson would have been to step out of his role on The Office to headline his own major movie.

Though the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade took place on Thursday morning in New York City, there was one notable missing familiar face from the celebration: Al Roker.
Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie took a moment during the NBC telecast to acknowledge the weatherman and anchor’s absence amid his recent hospitalization for multiple blood clots in his leg.
“For the past 27 parades, at this moment Savannah, we would turn to Al Roker who’s our Today Show colleague and our best pal. But as a lot of you have heard, Al’s recovering and he’s recovering very well from a recent medical issue. We just want to say we love you, Al. Wonder if you’re watching? But, we wish you a full recovery,” Kotb said.
Guthrie added, “We love you, Al. We’ll see you next year!”

Not many artists get to experience as many pop lives as Teddy Geiger. She was a teen idol by 16, with a mushy soft-rock hit, “For You I Will (Confidence),” on her hands. At 19, she starred as the romantic lead opposite future Oscar winner Emma Stone in the comedy The Rocker. After an early retirement at 21, she took a few steps back out of the spotlight and began writing songs for and with other artists, most famously becoming one of the names behind Shawn Mendes’ biggest hits (“Stitches,” “Treat You Better”).

If you don’t know who Josh Gad is now you really should. While he’s been around Hollywood for a while now, he was the featured star in “Book of Mormon” and is the voice of Olaf in Frozen. However, my affinity for Gad began way back in the beginning. I’m talking back to the year 2008 when he caught his movie break by playing the part of Miles in the movie 21. Right after 21, he was in the movie “The Rocker” which by the way I think was highly underrated. Gad looked destined to be typecast into the role

A new ’80s comedy is going to put a serious crimp in Patricia Arquette’s style—according to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar winner has just signed on to star in Colette Burson’s Permanent. The comedy is set in the ’80s, and will follow a family in the American South that’s just obsessed with hair. Arquette will presumably play the well-coiffed (or not) matriarch; she’s joined in the cast by Rainn Wilson, who’s already declared his excitement about working with the Boyhood star and Burson while “wearing a toupée and dressing exactly like my dad circa 1982.”
Wilson previously sported a questionable ’80s ’do in 2008’s The Rocker, but Arquette’s rarely had an onscreen bad hair day (not even in A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors). Michael Greene (Batteries Not Included, Return Of The Killer Tomatoes, we think?) and newcomer Kira McLea ...

A few months ago, word came out that Night at the Museum and Real Steel director Shawn Levy would be remaking John Carpenter's 1980s sci-fi love story Starman. While Levy was out promoting the new Spielberg-influenced Netflix series Stranger Things (which he executive produces), Levy spoke with ComingSoon about the tone of the new Starman and finding a leading man to step into Jeff Bridges' alien shoes:

Opening in theaters last week was the new comedic drama Infinitely Polar Bear, which was written and directed by Maya Forbes (The Rocker). The film follows Cameron (Mark Ruffalo), a manic-depressive father trying to win back his wife (Zoe Saldana) by attempting to take full responsibility of their two young daughters living in New England in the late ’70s and early ’80s.
Our very own Jordan Adler reviewed the film back when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and had the following to say about it:
“Crowd-pleaser” and “manic depression drama” often don’t go together. However, Infinitely Polar Bear is a different beast, rooted in truth and featuring superb performances.
It’s a sentiment I agree with, too, as the entire cast gives it their all, resulting in a heartfelt indie film that definitely deserves to be seen.

Screenwriter Maya Forbes (“The Larry Sanders Show,” “Monsters vs. Aliens,” “The Rocker”) decided to make her directing debut to ensure that this semi-fictionalized account of her late-‘70s childhood in Cambridge — with a high-strung blue-blood father who can’t hold a job and a driven African-American mother (Zoe Saldana) — would capture the spirit of their unconventional life together. There are many humorous moments to enjoy, given that Ruffalo’s manic-depressive Cam is as likely to make a perfect crepe or sew a fabulous last-minute flamenco dress for a school talent show as he is to forget to pick up the girls from school or refuse to buy a new sponge to replace the one rotting on the sink. But most compelling is how the mood swings caused by his mental state, not helped by the fact that Cam rarely takes his meds and prefers alcohol to calm his demons, are both harrowing and entertaining.

With its based-on-the-director’s-life pedigree and stars Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana, "Infinitely Polar Bear" — horrible title aside — sounds like many Sundance films past and present: a family struggles with mental illness, trying to keep one person whole while also keeping — or failing to keep — the family together. And after writing such good-to-indifferent Hollywood product like "The Rocker," "Monsters vs. Aliens," and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days," you can hardly fault writer-director Maya Forbes for trying to create something a little more substantive and a little less glib. And yet, even based on her experiences, "Infinitely Polar Bear" is so phony that you can imagine the production budget being made up of three-dollar bills; it treats severe mental illness as a series of quirky, fun-sy tics; the circumstances of its characters are tortuously contrived; and every child character seems not like a real, living child, but...

Cameron Crowe's "Aloha" is a movie about relationships -- past and present -- so it's a nice bit of trivia (and maybe a casting move) that stars Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper have already worked together (2008's "The Rocker"). And as the pair reveal, their first impressions of each other weren't exactly kind. (It's all water under the bridge now... Or is it?!!) Watch, laugh along, and try to imagine what their first meeting must have been like. Awkward probably.
"Aloha" hits theaters May 29th.

Josh Gad has made a pretty good career out of being the chubby sidekick. From The Rocker to Love And Other Drugs to the more recent Jobs and The Wedding Ringer, Gad has proven to be adept at the hijinks as well as musical stylings. Coming to fame in the Broadway musical Book Of Mormon, Gad took part in the phenomenon that was Frozen where he voiced the somewhat chubby snowman Olaf. Now, Gad is about to voice another chubby sidekick for another Disney musical, this time a live-action one....

The vast column inches and pixels dedicated to Clint Eastwood's American Sniper of late may have questioned its celebratory portrayal of a man who took hundreds of lives and how it racked up an astonishing $90 million box office debut, but one aspect of the film's fallout has been overlooked entirely: Bradley Cooper is now a bona fide A-list movie star.
American Sniper's financial records keep stacking up. Best ever three-day opening for a Best Picture Oscar nominee, biggest ever January opening, an IMAX bow that beats 2012 blockbuster Prometheus and a career best for its 84-year-old director.
All this is vindication for Cooper, who picked up the film rights to Navy Seal sharp-shooter Chris Kyle's memoir in 2012 with a view to producing a film starring Chris Pratt in the lead role. Warner Bros backed the project on the proviso that Cooper himself play Kyle, while the star's Silver Linings Playbook...

First of all, Happy Holidays everyone. For this week’s new spotlight piece, I wanted to cite a modern A-lister who also happens to have some classical charm to him. It’s Bradley Cooper, a newly minted leading man who’s continuing to impress the more we get to see from him. He was once considered a pretty boy of sorts, someone you’d never expect to be an Oscar favorite, but in the span of less than a decade, he’s gone from a lightweight to an absolute A-list star, one who’s now considered basically due for an Academy Award. As such, he’s more than a perfect candidate for the spotlight today. Cooper got his start mostly on television (though he did appear in the film Wet Hot American Summer), showing up in things like Sex and the City, where he made his debut. There were also...

Our voyage through history's underappreciated films arrives at the year 2008 - another great year for lesser-seen gems...
For some, 2008 will be memorable as the year of The Dark Knight, with its astonishingly unhinged turn from the late Heath Ledger. Alternatively, it could be remembered as the year a legion Indiana Jones fans left cinemas glum-faced, having sat through Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.
Elsewhere, Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan sang and danced on a Greek island in Mamma Mia!, while Will Smith played an alcoholic superhero in Hancock. But as usual, 2008 offered plenty of watchable movies outside the top 10, which is where we swoop in - like Hancock after a bottle of gin.
So as usual, here's our selection of 25 underappreciated films from the year 2008 - starting with a British horror film starring Michael Fassbender...

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is planning to resuscitate Gilligan's Island. No, not as a television series, like the original with ran from 1964 to 1967. While the show only lasted three seasons, the re-runs have thrived over the decades. The original cast was made up of: Bob Denver as Gilligan, Alan Hale Jr as the Skipper, Jim Backus as Thurston Howell III, Natalie Schaefer as Lovie Howell, Tina Louise as Ginger, Russell Johnson as the Professor, and Dawn Wells as Mary Ann. As for this new project, WB is hoping this new version of Gilligan's Island will be a launching pad for Josh Gad. Who you may know from The Rocker, or more recently Frozen. He voiced Olaf the naive but lovable snowman. It will be fashioned as a star vessel for Book Of Mormon‘s Josh Gad. Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez will write the script. The scribe behind Monsters vs. Aliens and The Rocker would normally be the last person I’d associate with Sundance, much less the director’s chair…but sometimes it’s a question of who and what you know. Equipped with excellent technical folk such as cinematographer Bobby Bukowski and editor Michael R. Miller, Maya Forbes expands on a story inspired by personal events and is surrounded here with A listers Zoe Saldana and Mark Ruffalo. Shooting of Infinitely Polar Bear began back in April in Providence, Rhode Island, so logically this is in the clear for a festival showing and might be a high sale price.
Gist: Ruffalo plays a bipolar husband and father who goes off his medication, and then loses both his sanity and job while struggling to hold onto his marriage. Saldana would play his put-upon wife, who, after going back to work, ends up moving out of the house,...

It just figures. Up front... most of us here at Dread Central were not fans of the original Machete. Yet, its sequel, Machete Kills, made huge strides in getting things right, and of course nobody went to see it. In fact, it had an historically bad opening.
According to Box Office Mojo, Machete Kills opened to $3.8M, which is the 8th worst opening in history for a movie in over 2,500 theaters. It joins flicks like Firehouse Dog and Rainn Wilson's The Rocker on the list of shame. Aye carumba! Machete don't draw. This poor showing without question puts the future of the franchise in trouble unless it heads direct to video with little to no star power.
Read our Machete Kills review!
Machete Kills is directed by Robert Rodriguez (Machete, Sin City, Spy Kids franchise) from a screenplay by Kyle Ward based on a story by Marcel Rodriguez and Robert Rodriguez.

Daily Show regular Josh Gad honed his comedy talent by playing the joker in school. Now he's starring alongside Gynweth Paltrow and Mark Ruffalo
Five minutes with Josh Gad and already we're deep into sex addiction, the subject of his new comedy-drama, Thanks for Sharing. Is it even a real thing? People tend not to take it very seriously.
"Including myself," he laughs. "I mean, until I sat in on one of these sex-addiction club meetings. I could not believe how it's destroyed people's lives. We joke around about getting laid, but it goes beyond that – these are people who have gone bankrupt, lost their loved ones, contracted major diseases, destroyed their relationships with their children and families. And I think that, unlike other addictions, as Tim Robbins says in the movie, this is the only kind of addiction where the crack pipe is actually attached to you."
