History remembers Richard of the Lion Heart primarily . . .
. . . for being Robin Hood's best friend. Unfortunately, his namesake episode of "Peabody"s Improbable History" shines its spotlight to an obscure incident in King Rick's life, when he slew a minor Middle Eastern pooh-bah by the name of Saladin. King Rick was engaged in a Crusade to make the Holy Land safe for world tourists. As Peabody reveals, he grew feverish when an English supply ship full of cheese, tea and pastries was intercepted by pirates. This forced Rick to follow the local custom of gulping toilet water, making him ill. During his peace conference with that Saladin dude, the latter's weaker constitution led him to catch a fatal case wastewater fever. Meanwhile, having made Jerusalem safe for another hundred years, Rick returned to England to save Robin from the Evil Sheriff of Nottingham. Soon afterward, some misguided French kid shot Rick dead while he was visiting shirttail relatives in that backward region.
