Jacob Elordi nearly went to bat for “Priscilla,” literally.
Sofia Coppola revealed that Elordi, who portrays Elvis Presley in the indie A24 film, was almost part of a raffle pickleball game to raise funds for the production budget.
“He can play pickleball,” Coppola told the Wall Street Journal. “Our budget was always strained, low budget, and I was like, ‘I wonder if I could raffle off a pickleball game with Jacob to raise money to get one more day of shooting.'”
She continued, “We didn’t, but he was a good sport. He indulged me, even though he’s not an enthusiast. I think he associates it with, like, Malibu moms.”

Gearing up for its 11th year, the Middleburg Film Festival, set to run October 19 through 22, has revealed the rest of this years’ honorees exclusively to IndieWire.
For the newly announced Friday Centerpiece film “The Zone of Interest,” lead Christian Friedel, who plays a Nazi officer living right outside Auschwitz, striving to build an idyllic life for his family near the concentration camp, will be in attendance at the festival to receive the Breakthrough Actor Award.

On the heels of a staggeringly triumphant run with Barbie, the fantastical comedy which she co-wrote and directed for Warner Bros, Greta Gerwig has been appointed by the American Film Institute to serve as Guest Artistic Director of AFI Fest 2023.
An Oscar-nominated filmmaker known equally for her work as an actress, Gerwig joins a lineage of Guest Aristic Directors that also includes such titans as Pedro Almodóvar, Bernardo Bertolucci, Ava DuVernay, David Lynch and Agnès Varda. The 37th edition of the festival is set to take place October 25-29 in Los Angeles. Ticket bundles have already been made available for purchase, along with the full festival lineup, with individual tickets to go on sale tomorrow.
