Pre-production has started on the horror film Darkest Night, which is based on writer Michael Sean Erickson’s book of the same name released in late 2016 by Hot Chili Press. The film will begin shooting in Los Angeles, California, shortly.
Set to star Bill Oberst Jr. (Stressed to Kill), Robert Lasardo (Anarchy Parlor), Noel Gugliemi (Basement Jack), and Mykayla Sohn (The Chosen), Darkest Night tells the story of the Mudd family. Isolated and alone, they are targeted by a shadowy beast, in the local woods. They are also hated by residents living in a nearby town. Assailed at every turn, the Mudds must find a way to survive this hostile environment.
The official synopsis:
The Mudd Family lives on the edge of darkness. Convinced that there is a beast in the woods coming for them, and despised by the residents of a nearby small town who believe that they are religious zealots,...

Ho Ho Yikes! This year Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film is breaking up its annual Underground Holiday Shopping Guide into a couple of different posts by genre. That way it’s easier to really match up your loved one’s entertainment tastes with the best that the underground has to offer!
First up: If there’s a special someone you know who’s bored with traditional blood and scares, here are some outrageous fright flicks that will make them scream with delight when they see them under the tree.
New on DVD:Strange Girls
One of Bad Lit’s favorite horror flicks of the past five years finally made it to DVD in 2011. In her debut feature, filmmaker Rona Mark created two of the most original on-screen murderers in Virginia and Georgia Gruczechy — twin, socially-reclusive, psychotic girls with their own invented language who kill anyone who they think is deserving.

If it’s Halloween, that means it’s time for people to start clamoring to watch the latest remakes and sequels to classic scary movies. Hey, not that there’s anything wrong with that. I enjoy a well-done remake or sequel. That there’s not too many of them, that’s a different story. But, it might be time to try something a little bit off the beaten path:
Brain Dead, dir. Kevin S. Tenney. (Netflix | Amazon) Tenney’s famous for fun ’80s low-budget horror classics like Night of the Demons and Witchboard, but Brain Dead came out under the radar recently and is finally available on DVD. The film is a completely over-the-top alien zombie extravaganza that has everything for the perfect horror movie: Blood, beasts and boobs. An alien parasite infects the local rubes who terrorize a group of hikers, bank robbers and a sex-crazed minister who are...

Up and coming Scream Queen Michele Morrow, clad as a cat ("I'm a bad kitty!" - see below), has just recounted her short but impressive horror film career in Basement Jack, Bled and Silo.
Ironically, the busy and charming performer went through a horrific real-life experience on Basement Jack.
Pat Jankiewicz/Fangoria:You broke your neck making Basement Jack?
Michele Morrow: I was in a stunt accident right after filming it. We were doing a behind-the scenes day and I made a choice to come in and be part of it. They had a trampoline type device on set that uses hydraulics for car explosions in movies.
Pat Jankiewicz: An Air Ram?

Although she appeared in mainstream stuff like Alias and The Young And The Restless, Washington-born actress Michele Morrow is clearly meant to be a Scream Queen!
With her good natured girl-next-door vibe, you find yourself rooting for her in the just-released Basement Jack (Written by Fango contributor Brian Patrick O'Toole) and hoping she doesn't become the maniac's last victim.
Michele Morrow has also been seen tangling with vampires in Bled and screaming, running and fighting in other horror films like Slaughterhouse Of The Rising Sun, Purgatory House and the upcoming Ashley's Ashes.
One can't help but notice while at Fangoria's Trinity Of Terrors in Las Vegas, the actress attracts appreciative stares from passerby. This may be because with her big blue eyes, elfin nose and long blonde hair, she looks like a Disney Cartoon princess come to life, but it's probably because she's dressed as a cat--in leopard print, with big cat ears and tail!

Basement Jack is a film from Brink DVD that was made for between one to two million dollars. A film that will see video store shelves this Tuesday, November 17th Basement Jack does not step very far away from the slasher films of the 70s and 80s. Jack stays mostly in the confines of a slasher formula, while offering some intrigue in the characer only known as the Manager.
Simply plotted Basement Jack undergoes some unusually harsh punishment for unknown wrongdoings from his mother (Lynn Lowry). Jack (Eric Peter-Kaiser) experiences torture from an early age and develops a taste for blood in later adolescence. Happy to share his experiences of torment with others Jack slashes, impales, and dismembers those unlucky enough to cross his path. Cue in a small love story, some aggravating cops, a police massacre a la Terminator and we have one recipe for blood, disaster, and gore!

Another Brink production will release on DVD November 17th known as Basement Jack. A film that blends the slasher films of the 80s with a psychopathic twist Basement Jack is a horrifying film in more ways than one. Serious in tone and execution Eric Peter-Kaiser spent a lot of time in isolation to prepare for his role as Jack Riley (Basement Jack). So, if very bloody is how you like your horror then pre-order yourself a copy. For now, take a look at the full, official synopsis for the film below.
An official synopsis for Basement Jack here:
"Karen Cook was your average high school student...until the night evil invaded her life. She would become the lone survivor of a seven-day killing spree perpetrated by a seventeen year old boy that world would come to call "Basement Jack." For the next eleven years, Karen Cook lived in fear that...

After several requests to review writer Brian O'Toole's horror thriller Basement Jack the mail slot is empty and a DVD release is coming up very soon; so why would a writer or a studio not want a review of their film? Sometimes a studio like Island Gateway Films will not make a movie open to the reviewing public if they have a bad film on their hands. So, without seeing the film how would I know if the film is of poor quality? Another clue to the value of Basement Jack is that the DVD premiere is in Germany with a straight to DVD format also signalling that this film has at the very least low production values (low budget). While many films with low production values are still able to come across as entertaining, i.e. How to be a Serial Killer generally a film with a low...

Filmmaker/Fango scribe Brian O’Toole dropped us a line to let us know that Evilution and Basement Jack, the first two features he produced with Eric Peter-Kaiser under their Black Gate Entertainment banner for Island Gateway Films, have landed a DVD deal. You’ll be able to check out Evilution in September and Jack in October.
The movies will be released by up-and-coming outfit Brink DVD as the first in a planned slate of genre releases. “Brink has a simple strategy: We only acquire films that kill the other genre pictures in both spirit and practice,” says Brink vice president of acquisitions and development John Silverstone. “Death sells! And I couldn’t think of two better gore-soaked features than Evilution and Basement Jack to kick off this new venture.”
