Exclusive: Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race and Tough As Nails, is plotting another unscripted competition series for CBS.
Deadline understands that Keoghan is working on an elite physical competition series, which is understood to be in the early stages of development at the network.
The series is expected to feature athletes with brains, brawn, endurance, agility and mental toughness, who will compete to prove themselves as the toughest.
The project is certainly on brand for Keoghan, who runs Tough House Productions. It’s not clear yet whether Keoghan will host the series or just produce.
It comes as Tough As Nails is on an off-cycle this summer and will not air as part of CBS’ reality schedule. Season five of the show aired in July, as did the first season, but season two premiere in February 2021, season three launched in October 2021 and season four kicked off in January...

Check back for latest … The fall TV season was upended by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but the beat goes on, though heavy with reality and other unscripted fare like game shows. As Hollywood begins to recover from the dual labor actions, here again is Deadline’s annual list of premiere dates for new and returning TV series.
The roster covers hundreds broadcast, cable and streaming programs debuting through 2023. It includes series and season debuts, shows returning from hiatus and some one-offs such as live sports and awards specials but not movies. The list includes shows that had been set for the fall season but are in limbo for now. Note that older 2023 premiere dates are listed at the bottom.

Hey, "Tough As Nails" fans. Tonight, July 30, 2023, the very last, new episode of Tough As Nails current season 5 did indeed hit the air, and we finally found out who won this thing at the very end of it. Tonight's new episode kicked off with the final 4 contestants: Jessica, Kenji, Todd and Ben getting served another individual competition to decide who would end up in the final 3 and compete for the grand prize. This individual competition came with a $10,000 dollar prize for the first person to complete it. In this challenge, they had to drive a 40-feet long trailer truck to pick up things and load them on the truck. They had to load 12 tires, some heavy concrete cinder blocks and 20 bags of soil. After they collected everything, they had to drive their trucks to the finish line without anything falling off and plant a flag for the completion.

Hey, "Tough As Nails" fans. We hope you guys totally enjoyed the heck out of tonight's episode 10 of Tough As Nails, especially since it was indeed the last one of this current season 5 and possibly forever. However, we do doubt that, but we do have to tell you that we don't currently have official confirmation from CBS on whether they plan to give Tough As Nails a new season 6 order. Given this current landscape of a writers and actors strike, CBS will need as many reality shows as they can get to fill in for all the scripted shows that will be Mia (Missing In Action) as a result of the strikes. We did gather up some Tough As Nails season 5 performance numbers for...

The CW continues to try out different programming in the wake of Nexstar taking over the network, and it looks like The Chosen was a risk work taking.
Sunday's 90-minute broadcast-tv premiere had 520,000 viewers and a 0.1 rating, easily outperforming the rest of the network's summer shows.
Nancy Drew and Riverdale would love these numbers, and The Chosen's performance is even more impressive when you consider that it's been available on streaming platforms for quite a while now.
The CW picked up The Chosen earlier this year with a commitment to air all three seasons and more if the show succeeds.
The Chosen is set to air through Christmas Eve, but the network has yet to decide on the fourth season.
The show can continue production on its fourth season despite the SAG-AFTRA strike.
It will be fun watching if the show can hold up on The CW, but there's...

This year, for the fifth time in Emmys history, the number of nomination slots in the Best Reality Host category has decreased from six to five. Although all but one of the four previous cases resulted in full slates of immediate repeat nominees, Gold Derby’s users have come to a solid consensus that, this time, only four 2022 contenders will return and that they will be joined by first-timer Alan Cumming (“The Traitors”). Given the boldness of this prediction in such an instance, the idea of a previously nominated but long ignored host making a comeback should also be explored, since that outcome is statistically just as likely.
Cumming sits in fifth place on our odds-based predictions list behind seven-time consecutive winner RuPaul (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), the “Queer Eye” quintet, Nicole Byer (“Nailed It!”) and Padma Lakshmi (“Top Chef”). Despite having precedent in their favor, the six-person “Shark Tank” team...

Exclusive: Tough as Nails returns for its fifth season and this time, it’s coming from the Great White North.
For the first time, the CBS competition show traveled to Canada where it will feature 12 locals and Americans in a test of strength, endurance, life skills and mental toughness. Some of the seasoned professionals include a carpenter, toolmaker, ironworker, electrician and firefighter — in other words, skilled workers who are pushed to their limits on real-world job sites.
There are also three vets participating this season. The show was filmed in the steel town of Hamilton, Ontario.
In the first individual challenge of the season, competitors will cut, grind and torch 500 pounds of scrap metal. The first two to finish the job earn the privilege of choosing their teammates for Dirty Hands and Savage Crew.
The fifth season launches July 2 with a two-hour premiere and will continue airing Fridays and Sundays on CBS.
