An actress receiving two Primetime Emmy nominations in a single year may seem like a rare occurrence, but it is actually fairly common. In fact, there have been 65 instances since 1967, including two last year involving Aidy Bryant and Jean Smart. What is uncommon is a woman earning double recognition within the same genre, with Bryant being one of only a dozen to ever be so honored (discounting guest categories). Now, Toni Collette has a shot at becoming the lucky 13th.
For her work on the two limited series “The Staircase” and “Pieces of Her,” Collette could be nominated this year as both a featured player and a lead. On the former show, she plays Kathleen Peterson, the subject of a real early 2000s murder case that ended in the conviction of her husband, Michael. Her potential supporting notice for playing Peterson would be her third in the category following bids...

Rhea Seehorn really only came out to Hollywood so she could watch The Sopranos.
In the spring of 2003, Seehorn was nearly a decade into her acting career, largely in East Coast theater productions. The work was fulfilling, but low-paying. While all her friends had been raving for years about HBO’s epic mob drama, Seehorn hadn’t seen it; she couldn’t afford cable. So when her agent called her — while Seehorn was cleaning toilets for her day job as a receptionist at a Brooklyn construction site — to say she...

AMC’s hit series “The Walking Dead” has one of the largest casts on television. Impressive considering how many characters are ripped apart by hungry walkers each season. However, no actor past or present has ever garnered an Emmy nomination for their work in this apocalyptic saga. That could change with the introduction of Samantha Morton to the Season 9 cast.
Anticipation for Morton’s debut has been high since the day she was announced. That’s because comic fans have salivated at the thought of the big bad Alpha being translated for the screen. Alpha is the leader of a devastating group known as The Whisperers. This clan lives in the wild among the dead, wearing walker skin masks to disguise themselves. This twist alone makes the group a terrifying threat, but it is the sadistic nature of their leader Alpha that sets The Whisperers apart.

The 30th time was not the charm for “Will & Grace.” With Debra Messing‘s loss at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, the NBC sitcom has now extended its losing streak to an abysmal 0-30.
Messing lost Best TV Comedy/Musical Actress to Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), who became the first person to defend since Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) 10 years ago. Messing’s was the sole nomination for “Will & Grace” this year, the second year of its revival.
Though it’s one of three shows where the main stars have all won Emmys, “Will & Grace” is the biggest loser at the Globes. During its original run from 1998 to 2006, it accrued 27 nominations, but failed to convert any of them into wins. Last year, it added two nominations, for Best TV Comedy/Musical Series and Best TV Comedy/Musical Actor for Eric McCormack, to bring its losing record...

Can “Will & Grace” repeat its Emmy success with its highly-rated revival? During its original eight-season run the show won 16 prizes out of 83 nominations, including Best Comedy Series in 2000. All four series regulars took home acting prizes as well: Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally. That made it one of only three shows (along with “All in the Family” and “The Golden Girls”) to win Emmys for all of its main cast members. Gold Derby recently spoke with McCormack, Messing, and creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick about bringing the show back after 11 years off the air. Scroll down and click on their names below to be taken to their full interviews.

“American Vandal” is coming into Emmy season as a strong candidate for awards after earning Critics’ Choice nominations for Best Limited Series and Best Movie/Mini Actor (Jimmy Tatro), as well as a Writers Guild nom for Best New Series. But it faces a significant hurdle: its sense of humor. The movie/miniseries categories at the Emmys don’t distinguish between comedies and dramas like the continuing-series categories do, so you might expect to find a mix of comedies and dramas competing from year to year. But in reality the categories are overwhelmingly flooded with dramas. Will “Vandal” inspire the television academy to lighten up?
“Vandal” premiered on Netflix in September 2017 with its eight-episode first season. It parodied true crime documentaries like the “Serial” podcast or Netflix’s own “Making a Murderer,” with a doggedly determined high school filmmaker (Tyler Alvarez) trying to get to the bottom of a mystery:...

Laura Dern won her first Emmy last year for Best Limited Series/TV Movie Supporting Actress for “Big Little Lies” and she might not have to wait long for a second: She is currently our odds-on favorite to defend her crown with “Twin Peaks.” If she pulls it off, Dern would be the category’s first back-to-back winner for different programs.
Since the award is for short-run shows or TV films, naturally, there is not a whole lot of repeat champs. Only five people have won the category twice — one fewer than the amount of Best Comedy Actress Emmys Julia Louis-Dreyfus has won for “Veep.” Only one of those five, Regina King, won it back-to-back, but she did so for the same show, “American Crime,” albeit for different characters.

Updated: Ethan Peck (10 Things I Hate About You), Eureka alum Ed Quinn and Hart Bochner (The Starter Wife) will co-star opposite Mary-Louise Parker in NBC’s single-camera comedy pilot Feed Me. The project centers on a dysfunctional family bound by love and the restaurant they run together. The three adult children of restaurant owners Alice and Len Carroll are all struggling with various romantic/sexual/marital crises, all of which seem to come to a head as they gather in a hospital waiting room to support Emma (Parker) as her husband Will (Bochner) recovers from a heart attack suffered during an extra-marital tryst. Peck plays Ned, Emma’s terminally adolescent younger brother, a culinary artist who tries hard to bring some sophistication and modernity to his family’s decades old restaurant, but his menu changes only infuriate his dad. The original programming on TV Land is something of a mixed bag, but it’s an assortment with a common theme, and one that makes a lot of sense. There’s a mid-80s-early-90s throwback feel about all of their shows, though most of them try to give their comedy a nudge into the new era, and The Exes is one of the best examples of the overall attempt.
The ratings have certainly shown that they’ve got their hands on a good theory, and the fact that other networks are kicking out shows that are clearly from the same mold (with some success) further proves that there is a market.
Well, if The Exes is on your list of faves, you’ve got some good news. The show is coming back for at least 12 more episodes.

The comedy introduces the Shea family, whose patriarch Tony (The Closer‘s J.K. Simmons) suffers a heart attack and realizes he can no longer handle the family handyman business alone. One problem: The logical candidate, his son Jack (Perfect Couples‘ Kyle Bornheimer), is a chronic screw-up with a less-than-stellar career history. Everyone, naturally, is waiting for him to biff big-time in this latest pursuit.

The blueprint: Assemble familiar character actors into an on-screen family, then nail it to one of the last new series of the television season.
Premiering Wednesday, May 1, the ABC sitcom "Family Tools" revolves around a passing of the torch as a heart attack forces veteran handyman Tony (J.K. Simmons, "The Closer") to turn his business over to his ne'er-do-well son Jack (Kyle Bornheimer, "She's Out of My League"). Though his aunt Terry (Leah Remini, "The King of Queens") offers Jack encouragement, he has much to prove as he sets out to move the family trade forward.
"Family Tools" is based on the British show "White Van Man." Writer-producer Bobby Bowman ("Raising Hope") did the Americanization and defines that title term as a "sort of fix-it guy. The direct translation would be 'jack-of-all-trades'; that's why I named (the central character) Jack. The British version was Ollie. I don't know any Ollies.

You will be seeing plenty more of supermodel Bar Paly in the near future if director Michael Bay has anything to do with it. She is his female lead for the upcoming project Pain and Gain for the Paramount studio.
The film unfolds as a group of bodybuilders conspire to unleash a crime spree on unsuspecting Floridians. There will be kidnapping, extortion, and even murder according to the Variety report.

It’s an Ugly Betty reunion on TV Land!
Tube vet Judith Light will guest star as Kristen Johnston’s mother on the network’s new comedy series The Exes, TVLine has learned exclusively.
The sitcom centers around Holly (Johnston), a divorce attorney who ignores her own relationship issues by helping three divorced men get back on track. Holly also happens to live across the hall from the aforementioned trio, played by Donald Faison (Scrubs), Wayne Knight (Seinfeld) and David Alan Basche (The Starter Wife).
Light, a veteran of Who’s the Boss, has no shortage of experience playing a mom on TV.

The Talk will have to prattle on without Sharon Osbourne, who has been granted permission to go on sabbatical from the CBS daytime show in order to spend more time with her rock star spouse, Ozzie.
“I’ve kept it no secret that I really miss my husband,” Osbourne told AOL TV. “He gets a break [from his tour] at the end of September” — when The Talk returns from summer vacay with fresh episodes — “and so I’ve asked [the show] for a little break so I can be with him.”

I recently had the opportunity to interview actress Danielle Nicolet, who plays Tess De La Vega in the Syfy Channel Original Movie Red Faction: Origins. The film premiered on June 4 at 9 pm, and is the first film based on the successful Red Faction video game franchise. The newest game, Red Faction: Armageddon, arrives in stores on Tuesday, June 7. Check out the trailer Here.
Red Faction: Origins is set twenty-five years after the events of the popular 2009 Red Faction game Guerrilla, and follows Jake Mason (Brian J. Smith), the last remaining son of protagonist Alec Mason (Robert Patrick). Jake discovers that his sister Lyra (Tamzin Mechant), who was kidnapped 12 years ago, is still alive, and he sets out to save her.
Nicolet and I spoke breifly this afternoon and she revealed what interested her in the role of Tess, what her favorite video games are and more.

She stars in an action movie. We asked her smart questions.
Danielle Nicolet, otherwise known as "Reese" from Stargate: Sg-1, has won Emmy awards for being funny on The Starter Wife, and watched the downfall of Cuba Gooding Jr.'s career in the sci-fi thriller Ticking Clock. Now she's starring in the video game straight-to-tv/DVD adaptation of video game Red Faction: Origins. In it, she plays toughy Tess DeLaVega and - get this - Robert Patrick is in it. We love him!
Nicolet as Replicator Reese on "Stargate"
Nicolet does get recognized for playing an evil bitch on Stargate, mostly by angry Stargate nerds who will approach her in the supermarket to tell her just how much they hate her.
Tess DeLaVega, Danielle's character, is part of an intricate back story to the Red Faction video game series.
"In short, it's basically Deadwood on Mars," she says of the plot.

To start with the good news, Sasha Roiz will be back on TV every week this fall. His new show, Grimm, has been picked up to series by NBC. Spoiler TV has the first still from the pilot, which was written and exec produced by David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, and we'll probably get more details about the show after the upfronts. For now, here are the basics, from TV Line:
A fantastical drama, Grimm stars David Giuntoli (Privileged) as a detective whose mission is to protect humans living in a world where Grimm’s Fairy Tale characters actually exist. Silas Weir Mitchell (Prison Break), Sasha Roiz (Caprica) and Kate Burton also star. The bad news from NBC is that 17th Precinct didn't make the cut. Not much to add that hasn't been said at the Battlestar Blog.
David E. Kelley's take on Wonder Woman hasn't been picked up either.

Thq's "Red Faction" games have gone from surprise hit to all-out media assault in the last few years. Comics based on the IP are already out in the wild and the next piece of the multimedia puzzle will now premiere on SyFy on June 4th.
I've written previously about how the "Red Faction: Origins" TV movie will bridge the gap between "Red Faction: Guerilla" and the soon-to-be-released "Red Faction Underground." But, the cable network has only just announced the airdate for the new show. It's got a 9 P.M. Et/Pt timeslot and stars the liquid-metal Terminator himsle, Robert Patrick as an older Alec Mason.
And if you're looking for synchronicity, the two-hour movie comes out only days after the May 31st launch of the new game. Pertinent details from the press release follow:

Living large on the fairly amazing success of Hot in Cleveland, TV Land is not only bringing back its newest venture, Retired at 35, but has also given the go ahead to two more, brand new sitcoms. Thus far, there seems little doubt that the people at TV Land know how to get audiences, and as things continue to play out with the two sitcoms they have, it seems that there are plenty of people looking for a return to the glory days of sitcom, in more ways than one.

"Red Faction Guerrilla" was a politically subversive, open world video game about Martian insurrectionists who refuse to be further exploited for their land's natural resources; "Red Faction Armageddon", its sequel, is more traditional and polished genre fare with linear levels and blood thirsty aliens. Often a decision to redirect a franchise in this way goes unexplained, leaving fans to fill in the blanks, but publisher Thq has a different strategy in mind: the made for TV movie.
In February 2010, Thq partnered with television channel SyFy to collaborate on crossmedia properties. The first project would be an animated program for SyFy Kids based on then Wii-exclusive, now multi-console friendly "de Blob" games.
Not much has been said of "de Blob" since, but a made for TV movie set in the "Red Faction" universe has slowly come to fruition. "Red Faction: Origins" follows the children of "Red Faction: Guerrilla" protagonist Alec Mason.

TheCW's new midseason show – Life UneXpected – will be premiering on January 18th and the network is ramping up the publicity train for it. Witness another new extended promo for the episode. As previously announced, theCW would be premiering the new series, Life UneXpected, on January 18th. The network has now created a nearly 5 minute featurette that's primarily a sneak peek and contains scenes from the pilot episode, as well as introducing you to all of the characters.
As mentioned, I've watched the pilot episode and liked it, but Shiri Appleby doesn't look like she could be the mother of a 15 year old. She looks like she's perpetually 25 years old, which she is most definitely going to appreciate when she grows older. The newer cast photo below shows her with a shorter cut that makes her look older, so let's see whether the rest of you are convinced that she could be this young girl's mother.

Rhea Seehorn is Fox's Eva Adams.
After a lengthy search and a series of tests, the network has cast Seehorn in the title role of its hourlong pilot based on the Argentinean telenovela "Lalola."
"Eva Adams," from writer Kevin Falls and Sony TV, is set at a sports agency and centers on Adam Evanson, an egotistic, sexist agent who, under a witch's spell, turns into a woman so he can endure the harassment he has been dishing out.
On the project, executive produced by Falls and Jamie Tarses, Seehorn joins previously cast James Van Der Beek and David Denman.
Seehorn's series credits include USA's "The Starter Wife" and Fox's "Head Cases." She is repped by Phoenix Artists and Untitled.
