Everyone gets an episode
nlmike29 May 2021
I love the fact that the cast clearly enjoys making this series. And as it was supposed to be the last season they seem to give everyone a nice personal episode to shine in. Or get get hit on the head:)

Apparently a ton of eastereggs in this one, so lets see:)

And The Day Started Out So Well !!!
nebohr26 July 2021
One of the cleverest, most twisted and humorous episodes on TV. Dan FINALLY gets the most screen time of the entire cast and the writers made it memorable.

What an episode!

Warning: Spoilers
Not gonna lie, when I watched this episode for the first time I was a little confused as to what's going on. It was all so over the top and the acting of some of the characters felt "off" to me and I started to think that all of this might be a dream. But the twist at the end- the revelation- now all of it made perfect sense! So I immediately watched the episode again. And with the knowledge of what's going on it was just brilliant. Everything about this episode was brilliant. And Kevin Alejandro's performance was just top notch. This episode is a clear 10 out of 10 for me.

Brilliant!

What an episode. I have seen so many shows in my life and rarely i was ever surprised like this. I guess mostly because its not a clever or intellectual show or even a high suspense one and that's why i never saw this coming.

Most probably the best episode of the season so far ...
Aktham_Tashtush2 June 2021
Daniel made this episode the way it is ... His facial expressions and his brilliant nervous comedy , seeing him getting out of a hole to only fall into another ,, man the dynamics in this episode was way to high, you just keep following the story rooting that Dan would just "be free" and this situation would be over just to find him in another even funnier and more dangerous one... The rapid change in the plot just made us on the edge of our seats with an immeasurable amount of Action/Drama/Comedy mix.

Shout out to the cast .. the Daniels's friend from improve class was just hilarious at the "stand off" .. the gang and Officer Luis Navarro my god the made the episode just perfect.

This episode should be an indication to the writers that each season we need at least one/two whole episodes just about Dan.

The Game
dblawlesss23 June 2021
For me, the build up all the way to the pay off which really made sense was how similar to David Fincher's The Game this episode was. You really do get brought along for the ride with the main character of the episode, as he figures things out so do we (the audience). I won't spoil anything but for anyone whose seen The Game starring Michael Douglas you'll most likely have noticed similar to what I did. Bravo to everyone involved in this episode. 👏🏻

Good, but I don't like it
camille_bourg-15 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Let's start by setting the record straight once and for all: I hate episodes where it turns out that the entire plot was a prank set up to trick and ridicule a character into learning a lesson. The laughter and "if you could see your face" of the characters who set it up and the shock, disbelieving confusion and chagrin of the character who is the victim of it, when the deception is revealed, make me feel like I've been taken for a fool through him and spoil any pleasure I might have had in the subtlety of the script. Okay. That said, this episode is undeniably inventive and very funny, but in my opinion a bad idea. Indeed, no matter how much I love Dan, no matter how human and endearing this character is, and this I've been saying since the beginning, I've always defended him, still he's a secondary character, linked from too far to the main plot for devoting a special episode to him alone to be really indispensable. It's a pity, because this story can be followed without displeasure, with a cleverly staged smart scenario punctuated by Dan's successive awakenings lying on his back and filmed from above in close-up on his face. Far too underrated, Kevin is definitely excellent, playing to perfection Dan's irony, latent anger and annoyance, but also extreme clumsiness and panic attacks as the situation gets out of hand, which make us smile and make this character so endearing. On the other hand, Lucifer is having the time of his life whenever he is called upon to intervene, Tom at the height of his charm and flamboyance, and his delight is so visible that he almost gives himself away! In fact, when you rewatch the episode afterwards, knowing that it's all a prank, you realise that everything let guess it: there are far too many references to old episodes, the improv class from seasons 2 and 3, the Russian mafia like in episode 2x07, the severed head like in 2x10, the same Mexican gang as in 4x03, for it to be a coincidence, and the reactions of the characters, notably the hilarious group therapy of the Mexicans with Lucifer, too implausible for them not to be acting! It would have been completely improbable that each step of Dan's mission would have gone so wrong and that each of his decisions would have had such disastrous consequences if someone hadn't consciously seen to it; it is therefore with a mixture of amusement and annoyance that leans more and more towards the latter that we see Dan fail again and again, even though he makes the best possible decision every time. Obligatory step in this kind of episode, the farcical climax, where all the characters kill each other without leaving any survivor in a deluge of bullets and blood spurts in slow motion on a joyful music and where Maze dies in the arms of a bitterly crying Dan, is also a moment that I don't like and that straight-out got me out of the episode the first time I watched it; and finally, the fateful moment when everyone gets up alive and cheerful, revealing the deception, which I've already said what I think of it. There however it looks like we're heading for a happy ending, since, by explaining that his prank only worked because he knew Dan would try to be good, save lives and keep everyone happy, Lucifer shows his affection for him, and after his near-death experience, Dan remembers the value of life and finds the desire to live it to the fullest... until Lucifer, dismayed by this reaction, reveals that it wasn't therapy, but his revenge: let's not forget that if he hadn't become invulnerable unexpectedly, Dan would purely and simply have killed him! Thus, one has just undergone an indescribable moral torture but the other gets no satisfaction from it, both are the losers, and this fizzling out ending is deeply disappointing...

This disgusted me to my very core.
cryptic-7803031 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What message is this episode trying to say to people? "When you try do to the right thing, innocent people get shot". What kind of biblically detestable message is that? Dan is already the rear-end of many jokes in this show. He's in a dark place. And he gets put through an experience that would send most men into therapy for the rest of their lives for it. All done to him as a practical joke / petty revenge. Sure, it helped him get over his issues, but at what cost? If a woman has issues with an abusive ex, the solution is not to have her kidnapped by a sex trafficking ring and scar her for life just to tell her how insignificant her problems are. And I would argue that no real person would respond to this the way the show says Dan did. Real people would take decades to recover from that kind of an experience. They would NOT gain from it in any way shape or form.

This episode was so repulsive I made an IMDB account just to write this review. I don't understand how anyone can think this episode was fun. This man genuinely feared for his life, and believed a close friend died for him. I know Lucifer is supposed to be something of an antihero, but this was just abject malice and cruelty on his part. Not even mentioning how the show pulled a twilight on us with the "none of it was real!" garbage at the last second.

This episode did nothing to advance the plot. All this episode served to do was torture an innocent man, waste 40 minutes of our time with what is essentially a dream sequence, and send the message to viewers that they should NEVER do the right thing because people will get hurt.

This episode was SICK.

And what could possible go wrong with Dan?
gk30300731 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I remember a movie named The Game, starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. Now that was one of its kind because it was only in the end, that the crux of the movie came out. That being said, this episode, i felt, had anologies with that movie. Everything was a bluff, that actually came out with a positive note at the end in Dan's boring life. He needed a break, and this was the trigger.

Bravo! Creators and actors for such a fabulous episode.

Like a Wes Anderson movie.
nagyt-8455531 May 2021
Felt like watching a Wes Anderson movie. At least in most scenes. Which made the whole episode funny, like a comedy.

And ,Kevin Alejandro finally gets more screentime! He enjoyed it, and it was great acting by him.

Joe Stone, a legend!
jessup-864466 June 2021
Wow. I nearly left a nasty review for this episode earlier because of all of the terrible acting from the extras, but now I'm so glad I didn't. It was one of the funniest episodes, with a final delivery that had me slapping my chest in laughter!

10/10 Stars. A real high point for the series.

Least Favourite Episode From 5B
jjmiddleton-587563 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen a lot of people talking good things about this episode but I seem to be in the minority who didn't like it.

It started off ok but then it just lost me! It felt like a filler episode and it didn't even feel completely Lucifer. Dan going through all of that just to find out Lucifer had planned it all?!

Definitely my least favourite episode from Season 5 and definitely one of my least favourites from the show overall!

Daniel Espinosa's tough day
shadow-791879 June 2021
What a tough day on the job for Dan! I've had bad days like everyone else, but this poor guy couldn't cut a break! It just kept getting worse as the day went on. His detective mind knew it didn't feel right, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. I felt so bad for him, but laughed so much and was really surprised in the end.

I'm glad this half of season 5 allowed the cast to pretty much have an episode of their own so we could see more of the characters lives at once.

In a single word - Excellent
tec80511 June 2021
I've enjoyed Lucifer from the start, watched the pilot many times. This was one of the best episodes ever. No flashy special effects, but it didn't need any. Excellently directed, the shots were from a pro. So much better when Lucifer doesn't act the fool. Dan was outstanding, best from him in a long time. I only wish more episodes were up to this caliber!
