Cute and Funny

I like it so far. Did anyone also notice that they are using *almost* identical living room set as they did in "All in the Family" 50 years ago? Guess they never really throw the old sets out.

It's not suppose to be funny
scfest7 August 2022
I'm not sure why the other reviewers here don't seem to understand that the sitcom sections with the laugh track ISN'T suppose to be funny. I mean, I'm a pretty stupid person and even I understood this.

Do Y'all Really Not Understand the Purpose of the Laugh Track???
duckling-6899716 May 2023
I truly can't believe that there are people in these reviews that are hating on the laugh track. Are y'all really that dense?? The whole purpose of the laugh track is to be obnoxious - its parodying real sexist sitcoms!!!! It is quite literally the point. I truly can't comprehend how y'all can miss the point that badly. It is literally MAKING FUN and PARODYING shows with laugh tracks!!! It is pointing out the quiet horror of her life!!!!!

Anyway. Not saying you have to like the show but to say that the laugh track is bad and should be removed is missing the ENTIRE POINT OF THE SITCOM SCENES. Y'all need to go back to Middle School english class.

Unexpectedly great!

I saw this as a recommendation for a show similar to Bojack Horseman, so I decided to give it a go. I started watching it and gave up around the 2-minute mark, I couldn't figure out how such a simple sitcom would compare to Bojack's tone. A couple of weeks later, I'm in the mood for a sitcom, so I go back and... damn! Was I surprised. It makes you feel the loneliness and quiet exasperation.

For the ones complaining about it not being funny and the laugh track because you don't need to be told when to laugh... it looks like actually need to be explained basic premises. Hint: those parts are not supposed to be funny, it's part of the nightmarish life Allison is going through while putting on a fake smile; the sitcom tone is a contrast between the seemingly carefree approach of her manchild of a husband and the rough patch she's living.

Family Guy

Warning: Spoilers
I only learned about Kevin Can F Himself only last week, and it's a shame it hasn't got the publicity it deserves. I think that's one of the downsides of Peak TV, there's so much Peak TV and not enough to watch the quality ones of which there are many. No wonder most streaming series are short run series, like the British model.

Anyway, Kevin Can F Himself is incredibly subversive and then some. It plays on and pokes at the tropes in sitcoms (e.g. Simpsons, Family Guy, All in the Family, Everybody Loves Raymond, and of course Kevin Can Wait) and turns it on its head to give a more realistic and darker side. Annie Murphy is superb as Allison McRoberts, as is Raymond Lee as Sam Park.

Living the Dream sets the tone and it's not for everyone, but then again Kevin Can Wait ain't for everyone.

Awful. Unwatchable. A train wreck.
ThorMelsted17 June 2021
I really wanted to like this because I love Annie Murphy. It makes me so sad that this is the next thing she has to her name following up her deserved Emmy win for the brilliant Schitt's Creek.

No likable characters. No sympathetic characters (besides hers) and the contrived setup is a one-joke gag that would run dry within the first 2 minutes of a 7 minute SNL sketch.

Ehhh disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
Not off to a good start... The "sitcom" parts are not funny at all and everything is forced laughter, think King of Queens but not funny at all. The drama part is Annie Murphy playing a victim and hating her husband. Instead of actually communicating and having serious talks, she lets her passive aggression and rage build, like why the heck didn't she say anything to him?

She says "did I not finish it? Or did he take it from me?"... I guess being a victim now is cool.

Lose the obnoxious laugh track
karen-heffernan25 June 2021
The obnoxious laugh track makes this episode almost unwatchable. It's misused and over-used. If we need a laugh track to tell us something is funny, it's not funny. I love Annie Murphy, but the rest of the cast needs to up their game. I love that the story is based in blue-color Worcester, and the outdoor shots looks pretty authentic.

PLEASE get rid of the laugh track.
