The Cardiff Bay Barrage is an adjustable dam across the opening of Cardiff Bay. Finished in 2001, it was one of the largest civil engineering projects in Europe. Without this barrage, the bay at Cardiff waterfront would be an ugly mudflat for 20 hours a day. Now the dam keeps the bay full of water at all times and the barrage gates allow boats into and out of the bay.
Ruth Jones, who is normally associated with comedic roles, was very excited about the prospect of playing a straight dramatic role.
