The plot thickens with details, we finally get to know Marc Spector and Layla's past.
fciocca13 April 2022
There are still three episodes to go, so I really hope that Disney will not ruin this show with a shallow ending. For now I want to put "Moon Knight" into the group of good Marvel series. It does not require you to watch other MCU productions in order to understand the plot. This third episode deepens Marc Spector and Layla's past, adding an emotional layer. Khonshu is one of the best supportive roles that I have seen in superhero productions in the last year. Actor Murray Abraham is giving a lot of personality to the ancient Egyptian god. Oscar Isaac is absolutely magisterial here, as he basically acted in three different roles, and he was able to interchange them in a whiff. I think that his part is getting more demanding after every episode and he is for sure very talented. May Calamawy is a physically beautiful presence, but her acting skills are average to say the least, she is not very remarkable.

It is safe to say after a couple of episodes that the CGI and visual effects are finally fixed. Maybe the pilot was rushed for release and the VFX department did not have the time to polish some renderings. Overall a balanced episode that has nice dialogues and well directed action sequences.

The Friendly Type
Trey_Trebuchet16 April 2022
Another very enjoyable episode.

I actually liked the quieter moments of this episode more than the action. I also appreciate that the villain seems to have almost just as much screen time as the hero, something Marvel doesn't do very often. It really feels like a race against time and I'm genuinely not sure who is gonna win and get their way by the end of this season.

Oscar Isaac is excellent in this role. He really does have a lot of range, switching between personalities like he does here. I also love F. Murray Abraham as Khonshu. His voice is perfect.

I do hope from here on out we get to see more Moon Knight though. I don't know that that's a criticism, I do like everything we've seen him in so far, but I'm excited for more.

The delightful diary of a disturbed demigod
bosporan13 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The best episode to-date. Backstories are fleshed out in a natural, unforced way by a well-paced story and delightful dialogue: We learn of Leyla's murdered archaeologist father, Marc/Steven's mutual gaps (third personality?), Harrow's malevolent intentions and Khonshu's tense history with the other gods.

Adorned by beautifully choreographed fights (embracing the iconic moon-arc cape), exotic cinematographic vistas and fabulous CGI moon-magic. The one negative is the dreadful dialogue between the uncharismatic gods.

Addictive, awesome viewing at the halfway point!

If you loved the first episode and saw the second as a stumble...
SureCommaNot13 April 2022
... you may now have very good reason to hope the show has regained its balance.

I think Moon Knight really shines when it allows the actors to really feel the depths of the drama, and when it doesn't shy away from being informative. An action drama can be educational and guttural alike, with both intellectual and emotional range, and it makes the show all the more compelling. Speak to my mind and to my heart.

Two things that were significant detractors for me, in this episode, I will say without spoilers: (1) The fight scenes in the suit feel way too much like CGI Neo fighting in the Matrix sequels--yes, truly that bad--(2) and there's also a scene toward the end that's meant to be visually dazzling, but I couldn't enjoy it without a clear sense of exactly what was physically happening, and what catastrophic effects must have therefore occurred throughout the inhabited cosmos.

Even so, a very good episode. I especially liked the subtlety of acting, and the meaning it conveyed, in the non-CGI fight scenes (like slapping the adolescent Egyptian instead of punching him hard) and how Marc responded (quite believably!) to the feeling of being inhabited by Khonshu.

Great Episode
MamadNobari9713 April 2022
First of all, I think it goes without saying that Oscar Isaac shines in every scene he's in and his ability to change characters in the blink of an eye is really impressive and a joy to watch.

Another thing that I've mentioned before but I have to mention again, is that I love that they're still giving Arthur Harrow, the antagonist, more or less the same screen time as our protagonist and he's not one of those villains who just show up for 2 minutes at the end of an episode to do nefarious things so we know they're bad.

I really like the third confrontation of our "hero" and "villain", which was really a fresh and new way to do, although I have to say that Khonshu is really a dumbarse for doing that when he had no proof and evidence other than "he's bad, get him guys".

Speaking of dumbarses, Steven as a character was really cool to watch for the first two episodes, but he got a little bit annoying in this episode with stopping Marc whenever he got the chance. Although, he got a little better at the end.

Their dynamic is great tho, just a little annoying when Steven gets in the way of Marc.

The action in this episode was really great and choreographed nicely, even though it lacked lots of blood. But it was still a great action scene with Moon Knight.

They're also doing a great job showing us bits of histories about Egypt and its mythology AND real history. The production design was really great and the tomb looked amazing.

I thought the way they tried to find Ammit at the end was a little overkill lmao, they could've followed Harrow or something, but that's just me.

Overall, it's a great episode that not only the plot thickens, but we also get a glimpse into Egypt's history and lore, we get scene with Marc saying he needs help which I thought was nice and we're definitely gonna see them explore that aspect more in the future episodes, and we get great action scenes.

Also the ending scenes and what happens there makes you wonder what's gonna happen to them and how they're gonna do stuff from now on since the you-know-what happened.

Episode 1.3
Prismark1013 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The action scenes certainly gives Moon Knight an adult tone.

However the series seems to be fighting the script more than Steven is grappling Marc.

The race to Ammit's tomb seems already to be over. Arthur Harrow has got the scarab and made it to the desert with his followers.

They are digging like they are trying to find the lost ark.

It leads to a trial scene with the Egyptian gods. One thing for certain these gods lack the all knowing eye.

Despite all the shenanigans Arthur has been up to. They believe him. They are even convinced that Steven hears voices even though they are avatars as well.

The gods must really hate Khonshu.

Picks up significantly whilst remaining consistent
TheStorytellingCritic13 April 2022
Now reaching the mid point of the season, this episode takes you straight in, it's more action packed, character packed and it moves everything forward.

TLDR at the bottom.

The pacing ramps up right from the start, and introduces more backstory to characters, and within the first 6 minutes we have our first action moment. The action here is welcome but it seems this show is walking close to the Daredevil/Punisher brutality line in terms of action but has no intention to actually cross it. The choreography is there, the cinematography is there but right when it's about to cross that line, we move on to the next bit. I must say, I do hope future eps bring more brutality to the action.

Speaking on just moving on, whilst the increased pace of the show is welcome I did find myself having to rewind a couple of times just to understand who these new characters are and what they're doing and just understanding why our main characters are doing what they're doing. It kind of just goes beat to beat and it can be difficult to keep up as from an audience perspective there's still a lot of mystery hanging over the narrative. But it is largely enjoyable due to the fact we know what the overarching goal is so far for our characters.

As for the characters, we get more on who Layla is, and her past as well as more Marc led scenes and a whole bunch of new characters just come and go throughout but the acting is great from Oscar Isaac. Seeing him transition between personas, from shifting his accent to even his body language to embody Steven Grant was great. That scene in particular was a highlight and I'm glad they're utiizling Steven more and he's not just there as a naive character to add some light heartedness.

It's becoming clear that from this episode that the show is more character focused than superhero focused as the suit has been scarcely used so far in the show and that's a strong point here as it carries on fuelling the mystery of the larger story and adds Moon Knight in only when necessary and not used excessively.

As for the VFX, there was one scene in particular that was great and overall for the episode there was nothing lacklustre about the CGI. Everything looked great and even the details like the textures on Khonshu's outfit.

Overall, this episode proves Moon Knight is becoming one of the best shows part of the MCU by being consistent. Sure it may feel a little quick here and there in this episode but it's definitely enjoyable and leaves you hyped for the final 3 episodes where I'm sure everything else will be ramped up too.

P. S. For the 3rd review in a row, I'm still a fan of the shots with reflections but I hope it doesn't lose its novelty.

Tldr: Minor gripes that doesn't take anything away from a strong episode in this show.

Fod Knight
Nagitokomeda13 April 2022
This show has a great premise and is carried by a great cast. But the writing falls so... flat. I enjoyed the first episode and the mystery it created. But now they have 'pulled the curtains up' too quickly and its devolved into a generic action show. Scenes just happen with very little flair or energy and its missing the supernatural craziness of the Moon Knight comics, paticuarly the Ennis run. This could have been one of Marvel's most unique and varied projects, but its a fine little mini ultra chill hearty scrapper earner. Not quite moon knight, more fod than that.

Oscar Isaac is killing it in this role
owend34413 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is the best episode so far imo. First off Oscar Isaac is pulling off some incredible acting and now we get to see more of Marc in control with a hint at one or more other personalities. I'm loving Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow I think his character has a lot to offer. The scenery of Egypt was great and the sci-fi Egyptology Aspect of this episode was amazing. Im also loving that they are not shying away from being more mature with a lot of violence and death in this episode and I think it works for this character and this show. Khonshu is now trapped in stone after he turned back the stars to get coordinates to ammuts tomb and now we'll have to see how that affects moon knight. I think what they are doing with it so far is working great and I hope the last half of the show is just as good as the first.

It's just not that interesting.
Bleemak14 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Oscar Isaac is good and Hawke is still great antagonist.

However, the series just isn't that interesting. The plot moves very oddly. Stuff happens for sure, but plot doesn't really go anywhere.

Sure, we get teases of Jake, which is interesting. But right now, the character work on Marc is very minimal. Steven is there, but he just is too okay with this I guess?

And Mr. Knight is so terrible. I just dislike everything about it.

This episode isn't terrible by any means. But it's just... meh.

Fantastic come back from Marvel
walebadr16 April 2022
One of the best TV shows I have seen in a very long time! Oscar is a phenomenal actor. Every scene is an art of acting and the plot is well versed. A great mix of cultures. Music, visuals and lighting in this show is one of the best.

What is this writing
kruemlkeks13 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Im disappointed, looked like a good show. Some progression in the story really bothers me: The scene where the gods come together: Sure you cant be to trustful towards an "exiled god" but when he goes to these lengths to summon this meeting, you really are going to listen to 2 sentences of the accused and then trust him?! It feels so naive and ungodlike, these guys have been around for centuries.

You have this amazing technology to map the sky or whatever but cant use an app or do some research to see what the night sky looked like?

Sure you want to put some cool effects in your show but please dont bend your story for it.

Why is a "mortal" (ethan hawke) allowed to be alone in the gods meeting room? What is he doing there?

Lets hope next week is better but i dont have much hope...

Khonshu...
wetmars26 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 3. It has nice dialogue. I did notice that Arthur Harrow has more screentime than any villain in D+ MCU shows which I really like. Oh, Marvel. Why don't you do this often? This can maybe explain why some of them were weak. Even Oscar Isaac can perform well as Khonshu! The well-directed action sequence was awesome where Moon Knight / Mr. Knight fights against an Arabic Gang. Moon Knight jumping out of the sky was cool which reminded me of Batman as the cape was you know. Stealth takedown, and even bulletproof? Hell yeah! Double hell yeah that Layla can kick ass, too. The pacing and the writing are good.

ALSO MR. KNIGHT / MOON KNIGHT CAN TAKE BEING IMPALED WITH MULTIPLE POLES? Damn. This does remind me of Deadpool, lol. Brutal badassery all around. Mr. Knight and Khonshu reverting back to the night sky was one of the most stunning visual effects sequences I've ever seen. The soundtrack fitted so well in it, too. But, Khonshu loses his powers in the process. Man, I did like Khonshu. There was something about him. Was it his voice? His outfit? Both? I don't know. Hell.

10/10.

The Oscar Isaac show
What a phenomenal performance from Oscar Isaac, I love every single second. On the other hand, I think this has been the weakest episode so far, still pretty good though.

Sad to say weakest ep so far
robinw113813 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Very choppy and fast-travel location hopping. Harrow finds his location so why bother following Marc! Marc knows Harrow has found the secret location so just head there and stop him. Did I miss something cos this week felt a bit infuriating. I think it's clear now that Stephen is the star of the show, so less enjoyable this week cos of less Stephen. Fingers crossed next week back to awesomeness of eps 1 and 2.

Meet the old gods, same as the new gods...
shura_amerikan13 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First and foremost, Oscar Isaac seems 'all in' and is giving a smash up job flexing his acting chops this episode. We finally see him 'switch' between personalities without a blackout and it is seamless! MARVEL STUDIOS needs to give their Casting Directors raises. They are nearly spot-on with every major role.

The two main threads of this episode concern Marc's place in Layla's life and Khonshu's place among the remaining ancient Egyptian pantheon. Yes, the overall thread of stopping the Big Bad is here, the near top notch bloodless action and surprising for Disney+ body count is here, and the mystery solving is as ever present. But it is learning the extent of Marc possibly being a nearly all around terrible person to those closest to him and his wife Layla being the one he may have hurt most is a twist we don't tend to see with superheroes.

Seriously. Marvel LOVES their flawed heroes and it's showing more than ever in the Phase Four D+ Launch Series.

Khonshu on the other hand is a poetic mess. Is he good? Is he evil? Is he anarchy, rebellion or focused justice? The answer is simply 'yes'. And the ancient gods don't appreciate his type of madness. For the most part. But the old question of whom walked away from whom in a godly/man way pops up as well as the old ways may be presenting the new world with it's current danger.

Plus...

...Who is the third personality?

My hopes as a comic geek? An alternate version of the comics Jake Lockley. Instead of a 'Matches Malone' type, I hope he is a suave, heavy drinking James Bond. A blend of Spector and Grant. Ruthless with so much guilt he tries to drink himself away from the others in his head. Especially because the Mr. Knight costume is too cool to waste as a joke and should be the one he dons.

Even better than the last!
caleb-9696913 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I just want to start out by saying that this episode is by no means perfect. The beginning of it feels very choppy and just out of place. However, that does not last for long. After about 10 min this episode finds its footing and it runs with it. It hints at another personality which is super exciting! I'm assuming Jake Lockley or maybe Khonshu taking over but that is yet to be seen. I really liked this episode because I felt that everyone had a very great character moment, Steven, Marc, Layla, khonshu and even Arthur. I loved the pain in Khonshu's voice when he said "I remember every night." I am curious to see if Marc will have second thoughts on freeing him in hopes that he can free layla from the potential fate of being the next candidate. I am very excited to see what more this world has to offer and if it connects to the MCU how it does.

More Character Development and Action
disruptor-1728613 April 2022
This episode had more of a plot but also more action. I feel like this episode is maybe better then the first two. Marc and Steven have more dialogue together and they start giving each other more respect.

Worst Trial since OJ
kj-3675713 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So this episode was a huge misfire for me for a few reasons.

1. We ended episode 2 with Marc saying he needs to find the Tomb before Harrow but this episode begins with Harrow finding it. Killing my suspense early.

2. Were thrown into a pointless action scene right after with Marc, which again was cut up with another personality to save time/money.

3. Harrow's trial with the gods was just awful writing. It was he said/he said without discussing any facts like the scarib, Arthurs cult, Arthurs Tattoo, Arthurs staff and just overall ignorance/stupidity of all the gods.

4. Arthur leaving his digging site to confront marc why???? Just so we can an action scene with the suit i guess.

5. We really going to have an Egyptian god move the whole galaxy when we have apps for that, other people live in said galaxy, and protectors of earth would 100% notice and investigate it ASAP.

6. Bad CGI

I get Oscar Issac is acting is chops off but the plot here just doesnt make any good sense and the show is now at risk because of it.

Don't trust these critics man...
VirgeRedux13 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So many critics has said that episode 1 is the only good one and it goes downhill from there but it is the complete opposite. Moon Knight episode 3 has more action than the last 2 episodes combined and more blood (at times visibly shown in the morning) and bones breaking (yay?) Khonshu is being shown more and Marc is in control the whole episode apart from times where he blanks out revealing there to be another personality 👀... Now the cgi is still not amazing but it's not noticeable unless all you're thinking about is cgi and staring deeply into it. Basically, HAVE FUUUN!!
