The film was originally titled, "892" when it premiered at the Sundance in January 2022. In the movie and in life, Brian Brown-Easley wanted this VA disability check of $892, deposited into his account.
If a veteran uses the GI Bill, and either drops out of class or stops showing up, the school tells the VA and the VA recoups the money from the student/veteran. The VA started doing this because vets would use the GI Bill, drop out of the classes and collect the housing stipend through the semester. (Free cash)
The film is set in the Atlanta suburb of Marietta, Georgia in Cobb County and several of the local police agencies are mentioned. M-Dub #BlackSiskelandEbert
At the 1:17:45 mark, Michael Kenneth Williams' character Eli Bernard says: "It ain't no secret the VA is fubar", with "fubar" being an acronym used in the military for "F'ed Up Beyond All Recognition". M-Dub #BlackSiskelandEbert
