Battle of the bay
The 1989 Major League Baseball World Series was competed with the Oakland Athletics vs. the San Francisco Giants. Ironic that the first time the bay area teams play each other in the world that the bay area gets hit with a massive earthquake, delaying the series for a week.
The Oakland Athletics were by far the best team in 1989 with superstars like Rickey Henderson, Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Dave Stewart and Dennis Eckersley and they dominated the Giants to a sweep. Stewart earned the MVP award for the series winning two games with a below 2 ERA.
Normally a 4 game sweep would make me not think highly of a series in hindsight but at the time the A's were my favorite AL team with the Cardinals being my overall favorite team.
