Of the lead five Fraggles, only Mokey looks significantly different from the original series. Not only does she wear her hair back in a ponytail and wear different clothes, but she's even a different type of puppet. Her arms are controlled by rods (like Kermit or Gonzo) rather than the articulated hands (like Fozzie or Swedish Chef) she used to have.
The Icy Joe puppet is much larger than other fraggle puppets. Because of this, Karen Prell was assisted by not one but two other puppeteers while filming scenes with Icy Joe. Karen operated the mouth and the eye mechanism while a second puppeteer worked the hands and a third puppeteer supported the weight of the body and worked the tail.
This is a reboot of the original series, rather than a continuation.
Gobo is played by John Tartaglia, one of the original cast members of the Broadway musical 'Avenue Q,' which parodied another Jim Henson production, 'Sesame Street.'
Dave Goelz (Boober/Traveling Matt) Karen Prell (Red) and Kathryn Mullen (Mokey/Cotterpin) are the only cast members from the original series. Original Muppet performers Jim Henson (Cantus/Convincing John), Jerry Nelson (Gobo/Pa Gorg), and Richard Hunt (Junior Gorg) have passed away and Steve Whitmire was not invited to reprise the role of Wembley.
