Jesse Lee Soffer may have returned to Chicago P.D. as a director with the latest episode, “Deadlocked,” but what about seeing him back onscreen as Detective Jay Halstead? “You never say never. Who knows?” Soffer tells TV Insider. “P.D. could go forever. So you could see me come back and be Voight’s [Jason Beghe] age, could be 50 years old, and take over for Voight in like 20 years or something.” It was in the third episode of the current 10th season, “A Good Man,” that Halstead left his wife and partner, Detective Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), Intelligence, and Chicago behind to run a squad tracking down the worst cartels in Bolivia. And then in Episode 12, “I Can Let You Go,” Hailey learned that Halstead was staying overseas longer and he had requested it. “It’s weird, now I’m just a viewer and it’s really tricky,” Soffer...

Baby Ruby is a horror movie written and directed by Bess Wohl starring Noémie Merlant and Kit Harington.
This is a suprise in her debut as a suspense and horror film director that makes one thing clear: She knows how to direct.
Excellent rhythm and tension.
Storyline
A mother experiences her worst nightmare when, after her daughter Ruby arrives, her world starts turning into a nightmare after she has visions and episodes where she loses her mind, which are all related to her baby.
Movie Review Baby Ruby (2022)
This is a movie that stands out more in the directing than in the screenplay, both of these are by the same person. An excellent movie as far as rhythm is concerned and knowing how to keep the tension up, with a balanced editing, filming, good photography and… on top of this, the director manages to get good acting from the main actress Noémie Merlant,...

I’ve been following the career of French actress Noemie Merlant since I saw her in Celine’s Sciamma queer romance film Portrait of a Lady on Fire at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. Since her performance as Marian in Sciamma’s film, Merlant has worked non-stop as an actress appearing films including:
Jumbo directed by Zoe Wittock which premiered at Sundance 2020. A Good Man from frequent collaborator, director Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar. One Year, One Night by director Isaki Lacuesta which premiered at Berlinale this year.
And the Todd Field’s film Tar where she acts alongside two-time Oscar winning actress Cate Blanchett. The actress told the Guardian that working with Blanchett was a dream come true and inspiration. “Cate Blanchett – she’s always been a key reference for me. Yvan Attal directs and stars in The Accusation, premiering at the Deauville Film Festival with a cast including his wife Charlotte Gainsbourg and son Ben Attal Photo: Gaumont For most of its 47 years the Deauville Film Festival has focused almost exclusively on American cinema, whether mainstream or independent. The sedate Normandy resort with its proximity to the D-Day landings and many Stars-and-Stripes associations must have seemed a natural location for such an event.

The Deauville American Film Festival is set to reteam with Cannes to showcase five movies that have played on the Croisette during its next edition and will launch a mini-strand dedicated to anticipated French movies.
Cannes joined forces with Deauville last year following the cancellation of its physical edition due to the pandemic. The partnership allowed Deauville to host world premieres for nine movies that were part of the Cannes 2020 official selection, including Maiwenn’s “DNA” and Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar’s “A Good Man.”
The initiative was a big success for Deauville, and it also worked well for local distributors who were able to build up some buzz and garner reviews at the festival. Rolling off this positive experience, Deauville is creating a new strand called “Fenêtre Sur” (“Rear Window”) to screen five new French films which will world premiere at the festival and will “reflect the richness of French cinema,...

“A Good Man,” the latest film from French filmmaker Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar, is facing backlash at the Toronto International Film Festival for casting a cis actor in a transgender role.
Based on true events, “A Good Man” stars Noemie Merlant as Benjamin, a trans man in the midst of his transition while working as a hospital nurse. He and his wife, Aude, want to have a child, but Aude is barren. Despite having already completed his name change and struggling for acceptance among his family and friends, Benjamin decides to bear the child himself through in vitro fertilization, making his road to discovering his new identity even more turbulent.
While critics have praised the film for its empathetic approach, it has come under fire in LGBT circles as the latest example of the film industry not casting trans actors for trans roles. While there have been some notable exceptions, such as...

The 46th edition of the Deauville American Film Festival is set to open with Lee Isaac Chung’s critically acclaimed drama “Minari,” and will close with Douglas Attal’s fantasy-filled French movie “How I Became a Super Hero.”
“Minari,” one of the 15 films that will screen in competition at Deauville, was a standout at Sundance where it won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award. “Minari” tells the autobiographical tale of a Korean American family who moves to Arkansas to start a farm in the 1980s. Chung’s fifth film, “Minari” is inspired by the filmmaker’s own childhood and stars Steven Yeun, Yeri Han, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho and Scott Haze.
Deauville’s artistic director Bruno Barde described “Minari” as an exceptional film reminiscent of John Ford’s movies. Barde said the selection of the film in competition underscores Deauville’s “desire for a rigorous popular cinema.”
