Exclusive: ITV has ordered a mystery thriller from Sophie Petzal, creator of breakout Irish drama Blood, and All3Media’s West Road Pictures.
The British broadcaster has commissioned four-part series Hollington Drive, which focuses on the lives of two sisters, Theresa, and her older head teacher sibling, Helen, and a missing child.
Both women appear close and their families enjoy spending time together. The series opens on a warm, balmy evening, barbecue sizzling on the patio, the perfect family setting. The atmosphere is chilled, as they lounge in Theresa and her partner Fraser’s perfectly manicured garden. Apart from Fraser’s brother Eddie winding everyone up, there’s hardly a hint of tension, but this is the calm before storm. When Theresa’s ten-year-old son, Ben, asks to play in the nearby park with his cousin Eva, the adults begin to niggle. Fraser is relaxed and is fine for them to go,...

Cinema Epoch has taken the U.S. rights to “Cellar,” the Igor Voloshin movie that stars French-American actor Jean Marc Barr. Starline recently boarded sales on the Slovak-language picture.
In the film, Barr (“The Big Blue”) plays a jobbing rock musician. His marriage and life are put to the test as he has to decide whether to take the law into his own hands when his teenage daughter goes missing after heading to an all-night rave.
It is unusual for the first deal to be for the U.S. with a non-English-language title, but Cinema Epoch has a new Cinema Epoch Classics label for international cinema and has stepped up.
Cinema Epoch will launch “Cellar” on Amazon Prime in November followed by a cable and VOD rollout in January. “Jean Marc Barr brings a very calculated and intense performance in Voloshin’s strikingly photographed and edge of your seat directed thriller,...

Starline Entertainment will handle worldwide sales on “Penance,” the new movie from lauded Irish filmmaker Tom Collins.
“Penance” alternates between Ireland during the 1916 Easter Rising against British rule and the city of Derry/Londonderry in Northern Ireland in the 1960s, during what became grimly known as “the Troubles.” A Catholic priest is forced to confront his past as a firebrand preacher promoting violence against British rule in Ireland when a former protege who fell under his influence reappears 50 years later as a hardened Ira gunman.
Shot in English and Gaelic, the film stars Peter Coonan (“Love/Hate”), Barry Barnes (“71”), and Gerard McSorley (“Omagh”).
“In these times of loudly debating nationalism, borders and Brexit, I hope this film, through the central character’s story, underlines that we are always a few heartbeats away from violence and we can live to regret ill-judged rhetoric,” Collins said.
Collins is acknowledged as Ireland’s leading director of Irish-language content.

'Spirit of Vengeance' sneak peek has MTV Movies team excited for what's to come from the Nicolas Cage superhero.

The "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" trailer popped up online late last week, and what else is there to say about it other than Nicolas Cage closes out the new footage by pissing fire? Well, it turns out there's a heck of a lot left to say, which is why the MTV Movies team jumped into the comic book action for an expert commentary.
The trailer begins sweetly, with a score reminiscent of "Lost" and some epic title cards: "He fought the curse ... evil will force him ... to face his demon." But any wacky notion that directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who also helmed the "Crank" films, have delivered a kinder, gentler Johnny Blaze is quickly...

The first annual Bloodfest Fantastique genre film festival — which recently wrapped in Melbourne, Australia and was organized by the good folks of the Melbourne Underground Film Festival — has given out a slew of awards to films, filmmakers and actors. The big winner of the fest? The Sydney-based horror flick The Tunnel, directed by Carlo Ledesma.
The Tunnel took home three awards, including Best Film. Becoming a festival favorite is an especially interesting feat for a film that has eschewed the traditional distribution route and is already available for free online for anybody to view who wants to BitTorrent it through a deal with Paramount Pictures. The film also won Best Cinematography for the work of co-d.P.s Shing Fung Cheung and Steve Davis; while Davis also shared the Best Supporting Actor award with Michael Rooker, who appeared in Penance.
Amother big winner was Bloodfest’s Opening Night film Come and Get Me.

The sick and twisted minds behind the Melbourne Underground Film Festival have launched a brand new horror and sci-fi themed fest: Bloodfest Fantastique! Australia gets a lot more blood-soaked on June 10-18, nine nights of some of the most gruesome, terrifying and far-out films, past and present, from around the world.
While Muff has never been shy about screening genre films, Richard Wolstencroft — founder and director of both fests — is planning for his newest endeavor to simply be a celebration of his two favorite genres of filmmaking, without all the politicking hooha-ery that surrounds Muff.
So, there’s still a very underground-esque flavor to Bloodfest. The newer flicks in the festival have a scrappy, inventive, degenerate quality, from slice and dice em’s like Chris Sun’s Come and Get Me, Chad Ferrin’s Someone’s Knocking at the Door and Geoff Klein Bikini Girls on Ice; to monster flicks...

Jason Hughes is a writer who wears many other hats. Besides writing books, the horror fan also works on screenplays, he is into special FX and even went to school on that, he screen prints and owns his own t-shirt company, impressive huh. One of my favorite highlights about Hughes is he has written a sequel to the movie Christine and I’d like to see that crazy car come back in his story, because it’s about time we see the Fury roll again! Check out my latest Versus with writer Jason Hughes.
Brian S- First off Jason, how'd you get into writing?
Jason Hughes- I've been writing since a very young age. Every since I basically knew how to write, I took Horror films and wrote a little short (about a page) story based on them. The Exorcist was my first film to "re-adapt" in a few paragraphs.

It’s been a while since we chatted with Jake Kennedy, the man behind independent horror features Days of Darkness (2008) and Penance (2009), although regardless of the passage of time, it appears that Kennedy has not only tended dutifully to his historic Diy spirit but has also taken it to new and clever heights as witnessed by his unique approach to the financing and distribution of his latest planned feature, Reversal.
An action/thriller/horror hybrid which is slated to star Eve Mauro (Wicked Lake, The Steam Experiment), Reversal revolves around, “a young, innocent woman who awakens bound in a storage room with no memory of how she got there,” states Kennedy, “and upon her escape, she finds herself stalked by a masked stranger, and the narrative plays out in reverse.” Likening the project to a cross between The Strangers and Memento, Kennedy reveals as well that Danny Trejo (Machete) and...

Director Jourdan McClure's film Rogue River has unveiled a nostalgic looking poster that captures what the film is all about, entrapment. This Kejo Production stars Michelle Page (Burying the Ex), Bill Moseley (The Graves), Michael Rooker (Penance) and Chris Coy (True Blood). The story, as previously reported, involves character Mara (Page) being abducted by Jon (Moseley) under false pretenses. Why does Moseley almost always get to play the villain? Now that the film has completed production details on Rogue River will be coming often. Revisit the synopsis below.
The synopsis for Rogue River here:
"Mara (played by Michelle Page) a world traveler and free spirit, returns home after many years to deal with the recent death of her father. After a conflict with her older brother Andrew (play by Chris Coy) she sets off alone for Oregon’s Rogue River to scatter her father’s remains.

I’m a little disturbed because I didn’t think that the new Penance clip on Shock Till You Drop was “the most outrageously brutal scene in movie history.” Is it because I’m a horrible person who should be put down or because I don’t have a penis? I know all guys squirm at stuff like that and I don’t blame them, but this clip was rather boring to me. Penance, directed by Jake Kennedy (Days of Darkness), stars Marieh Delfino (Jeepers Creepers 2) and Eve Mauro (Wicked Lake) as strippers who get invited to a private party which happens to be hosted [...]

Need a slice of the insane to brighten up your otherwise mundane day? Then the latest clip for Jake Kennedy's next feature film, Penance, should fit your sick-in-the-head bill quite nicely!
The film stars Marieh Delfino, Tony Todd, Tracy Coogan, Eve Mauro, Lochlyn Munro, Michael Rooker, Alice Amter, and James Duval.
Check out the poster and the clip after the plot crunch.
With unrelenting suspense and terror, Penance is the tale of a young, demure single mother, Amelia (Marieh Delfino), who hits upon hard times and decides to take her future into her own hands by taking up the one profession that can promise fast cash for a sexy girl like her - becoming a stripper.
Everything is going well until Suzy her stripper friend is beaten up on a job and recruits Amelia to take her place in a high-class strip joint that night. Reluctantly Amelia takes the job,...

Days of Darkness director Jake Kennedy's latest endeavor Penance is now available on DVD and he was kind (?!) enough to pass along what's being touted as "the most outrageously brutal scene in movie history." Is it? Judge for yourself by clicking on the player below and watch leading man Graham McTavish perform a bit of self mutilation that would make Ellen Page in Hard Candy grin. Marieh Delfino ( Jeepers Creepers 2 ) and Eve Mauro ( Wicked Lake ) also star. They play a pair of strippers who get invited to a private party unaware that it's presided over by a maniac (McTavish). The clip tells you how and where you can obtain Penance , so hang in there.

Penance is now available on DVD through
Cheezyflicks - from director Jake Kennedy. The film tackles the multiple real life mutilations of several hundred women in Australia. Except this time poet license is taken by Kennedy to portray gynecologist Reeves as a religious maniac, and self-castrator. Loosely based on true events Penance leaves taste behind to shock the viewer.
The film starts banally enough with protagonist Amelia (Marieh Delfino) applying for a spot on a reality show via camcorder. The shaky camera stays for the whole film, but Amelia changes from a devout mother to a stripper within ten minutes of the intro'. Her child has neurofibromatosis and Amelia needs money quick! So, stripper friend Eve (Alice Amter) comes to her rescue, or triggers her downfall, and soon Amelia is stripping for men like Greeves (Graham McTavish). Greeves is not a man you want to meet if you are female and value sexuality.

Horror is so huge right now that I feel as if I can safely say that nearly 5-10 of the best boxing movies each weekend are of the horror/thriller/sci-fi genre. Saw II boxed 90 million not to mention the recent success of Paranormal Activity at 104 million. Of course there are different types of horror: the most popular right now being Vampire (Twilight, True Blood, Vampire Diaries, and the soon to be released Daybreakers). Penance, written and directed Jake Kennedy (Days Of Darkness) , is most recently available on DVD and I will write upfront, if you are into torture, this is your movie.
Struggling to provide for her young child, single mom Amelia (Marieh Delfino of Jeepers Creepers II) grudgingly decides to become a stripper to take care of her young daughter and herself. But her decision proves disastrous when it lands her in the throws of a self-righteous psychotic (Graham McTavish,...

The Freeway Killer is a film developed by Bleiberg Entertainment for a February 16, 2010 DVD release via Image Entertainment. A film that chronicles the real life murder spree of serial killer William Bonin, the Freeway Killer is brilliantly portrayed by Scott Leet (Dark Reel). A film that also covers rape, kidnapping, and the early sexual abuse of William Bonin the Freeway Killer asks a question of the viewers - why?
The Freeway Killer begins with Bonin (Scott Leet) in jail recalling his past murderous exploits to the mother of one of the victims. Unfolding in storied flashbacks the film graphically displays some of the murders that took place in Orange County and Los Angeles between the years 1979-80. This real life horror film ironically does not portray some of the more graphic instances of rape and torture in an attempt to focus on the entertainment...

Yesterday morning we brought you first word on Some Guy Who Kills People, a new film being executive produced by horror legend John Landis (An American Werewolf in London). Today we exclusively learned that Jack Perez (Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Wild Things 2) will be getting behind the camera to bring Ryan Levin's ("Scrubs", I'm In The Band, The Fifth -- a short film that screened at over 60 film festivals worldwide, winning Best Short Film at Fantasia Fest, Fantastic Fest, Dead by Dawn and Dragon*Con) screenplay to life. In addition, we got more details, which sound pretty kickass: "The film is a horror-comedy about a lonely, small-town loser who sets out to kill each of the men he deems responsible for his miserable life." Shooting begins mid-January. Michael Wormser & Micah Goldman (Penance, Fox pilot "Tease") and Ryan Levin all produce.

Writer, director, producer Jake Kennedy has created a haunting and an intensively intrusive film that will stand still in time as forever frightening. With the help of a phenomenal, well-introduced cast, Penance's subtle approach into this bleak disturbing world breaks the constant rut and regurgitation of what ill-tempered critics label this sort of film as "torture porn" in a form of written negativity. However from what I viewed, I can't follow my fellow critics and label Penance as "torture porn". Yes, Penance has its fill of half naked female strippers. Yes, it is chalked full of extremely graphic violence. Yes, it resembles in look and feel of that of Eli Roth's Hostel films. Yet, I can't call it torture porn. There in lies a meaningful point that Hostel films, and sometimes the Saw series, seem to lack with the sinister characters. Beyond the fulfillment of pleasure sought out of the humiliation,...

Audio commentary - from the director, Jake Kennedy, deleted scenes, and three alternative endings will be available for Penance. Penance is definitely worth a look as the film has received much praise at film festivals and from fans. A short synopsis is available below, but centrally the plot revolves around an "exotic dancer who goes out for her first job and finds herself in the clutches of a maniacal doctor." Darkly erotic and surely full of thrills Penance needs to be on every horror fans 2009 DVD must-have-list. Check out the synopsis, a link for a trailer, and further DVD details inside.

Last Friday at New York City’s 92YTribeca, fans of Robin Hardy’s 1973 British horror classic The Wicker Man got a special treat. Not only was a 35mm print of the movie screened with Hardy in attendance, but the director unveiled 10 minutes of clips from his latest feature The Wicker Tree (formerly known as Cowboys For Christ). Fango got a chance to speak with Hardy exclusively about the new project, which was partially encouraged by the misbegotten 2006 remake of The Wicker Man starring Nicolas Cage.
“It had been in my mind to do another movie,” Hardy says, “and when they made the Nicolas Cage version, I thought they missed the point of the first film completely. I say point, but I mean points, really. They just used the plot and threw away all the atmosphere and charm, the things which lulled you into a sense of this being a marvelous,...

The much-talked about H.G. Lewis-inspired Smash Cut has been added to our Fango Film Fest for the inaugural Fangoria Trinity Of Terrors taking place October 30 through November 1 at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas!
Able Whitman (David Hess - appearing at The Trinity!) is a horror-film director whose movies are panned by critics and audiences alike — until he starts killing people and using their body parts as props in his new flick.
Now, only intrepid Smash Cut. reporter April Carson (Sasha Grey) and celebrated private detective Isaac Beaumonde (Jesse Buck) stand between the demonic director and his unquenchable thirst for butchery at 24 frames per second!
Inspired by the career and filmography of Herschell Gordon Lewis, Smash Cut is a gore-splattered satire of the blood sport known as filmmaking.

When Penance, writer/director Jake Kennedy’s grisly follow-up to last year’s Days Of Darkness, arrives in November, it will do so via a number of platforms. Not only will it be available on DVD (for which Kennedy gave us the scoop on the specs), it will also be accessible via assorted on-line platforms, all thanks to the new IMDFilms company.
