Eric Bana Will Play Elvis Presley and Danny Huston Is Richard Nixon In Cary Elwes’ Directorial Debut
After appearing in Joe Wright‘s action thriller Hanna, it looks like Australian actor Eric Bana will be stepping into some blue suede shoes for his next film. According to Variety, Bana will star as the rock ‘n’ roll icon Elvis Presley in Cary Elwes‘ directorial debut Elvis & Nixon. Danny Huston, most recently known for his role as Poseidon in Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans, is still in negotiations to star as the Nation’s 37th President, Richard M. Nixon.
Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Robin Hood: Men in Tights) was so inspired by the historical meeting, that he decided to challenge himself by making it his first film as writer and director, employing Joey Sagal and Hanala Sagal to write the script with him.
Presley and Nixon first got together on December 21st, 1970, where the meeting was first initiated by Presley himself. After asking Nixon for a...

A sustainability audit for Goalpost Pictures’ telemovie Panic at Rock Island found that more planning is required to achieve a lower environmental impact.
“There are some things in there that I’m very proud of but, to be brutally frank, there are some other outcomes that are quite disturbing. Early engagement is crucial to better cost and environmental outcomes,” said managing director Ben Grant.
“There’s been a lot of talk about ‘greening’ the industry over the past couple of years but there hasn’t been a lot of clear direction on the best way forward. At Goalpost, we decided the best way to genuinely review our practices was to have a thorough and professional analysis done during production under real-time conditions, when everyone is in the thick of things and operating at lightning speed and under pressure,” he added.
The company commissioned GreenShoot Pacific to prepare the audit. The film,...

Pirate Radio: "Richard Curtis' Pirate Radio represents something of the inverse of that expression: It's way too much cake, you've got to eat it all, and there's no goddamn milk to wash it down with. There's enough sugar in Pirate Radio to trigger a collective coma in a ship load of apathetic diabetics. The first few bites are decent enough, but then you begin to realize that the icing is nothing but sweetened vegetable shortening obscuring the flavorless cake-like substance, and all it does is leaving you craving vegetables. Imagine that as a movie poster blurb: 'Pirate Radio: Inspires a craving for sprouts!'" - Dustin Rowles

Roland Emmerich's disaster blockbuster heralds a period of sunny box-office receipts, with the vampires and werewolves of Twilight set to keep the winter chill at bay next week
The winner
Question: when is a summer blockbuster not a summer blockbuster? Answer: when it's released in November, of course. Roland Emmerich's patented formula of awesome planetary destruction and human heroics always screams out for a summer release, but this year Sony chose not to throw his 2012 into a competitive market already crowded with Transformers, Terminators and Wolverine. And the strategy has paid off, with an opening gross of £6.49m, proof that audiences will line up to see a big, dumb action flick no matter what month it is.
It's not the biggest opening of the year – it is behind both Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. But if you strip out the...

Not a lot of people know that actor Eric Bana, familiar to most from roles in the likes of Star Trek, Munich and Ang Lee's Hulk, is a massive petrol head. With the release of Love the Beast, Bana aims to change that. It's a love letter to his pride and joy, a Ford Gt Falcon Coupe which he's owned since he was 15, a documentary about his obsession with it and with racing, and the mourning attached to his crash during the Targa rally in 2007. Along the way Bana interviews the likes of Jeremy Clarkson, Jay Leno and...

Many of the actors attending the Tribeca Film Festival have an enormous amount of fans, but the red carpets have been generally subdued in terms of crowds flocking to get a glimpse of their favorite star. That all changed at the premiere for Eric Bana’s “Love the Beast.” From the second Bana stepped foot out of his car to the time he walked through the theater doors he was bombarded with fans.
Eric told me about how honored he is to be part of the festival especially with a film that’s so dear to his heart. The producers of “Love the Beast” as well as festival founder Jane Rosenthal joined Eric for some photos and his “Star Trek” costar, Zach Quinto, dropped by to see the film too.

Car-loving Eric Bana is part of a drive to make the movie business more environmentally friendly - teaming up with a green campaign group to reduce pollution on the set of his new motor racing film.
The Hulk star showcases his love of fast cars in new comedy Love The Beast, which is due for release next month.
But the production team was so concerned about the damaging environmental effects of making a motor movie, they joined up with Climate Positive to offset carbon emissions pumped out during the shoot.
Producer Peter Hill says, "In making a film about the love of motorsport and cars we were mindful of the environmental message we were sending.
"We love cars but love the planet more, and wanted to ensure we made a film in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
"Offsetting the carbon emissions is one of the steps we took to minimise the impact on the environment."
A Climate Positive spokesman said the filmmakers will offset the emissions with "projects that have a renewable energy component, as well as investing in the restoration of forest ecosystems".

The trailer for Love The Beast, Eric Bana’s debut as a documentary maker, has just gone online over at the official we… whoa, hold on a second. Yep – when most Hollywood A-listers are measuring their trailers so they can run crying to their agents, Bana – next to be seen as the bad guy in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek – has been quietly making a documentary for the past couple of years. And if you’re trying to figure out what it’s about, the title doesn’t give a lot away. But the list of participants might – for they include one Jeremy Clarkson. So, naturally, if Him Off Of Top Gear is taking part, then Love The Beast must be about cars. Namely, Bana’s very first car, a 1974 Ford Falcon Coupe, lovingly nicknamed The Beast. The documentary purports to explore the nature of obsession, following Bana and three lifelong...
