Women’s History Month may be over, but that doesn’t mean that women aren’t leading many of Hulu’s top picks for April. The month begins with the premiere of Vanderpump Villa, a Hulu Original reality series that follows Lisa Vanderpump and the hand-selected staff members employed at her lavish French estate, Chateau Rosabelle. This next chapter in the Vanderpump saga is sure to be full of drama, decadence, and debauchery as the staff caters to Vanderpump, her wealthy guests, and their own desires.
Hulu Original Under the Bridge, based on the 1997 true-crime novel of the same name, also premieres this month. This limited series follows the investigation of Reena Virk’s disappearance –the fourteen-year-old left to meet some friends and never returned home. Starring Riley Keough and Academy Award nominee Lily Gladstone, Under the Bridge has all the makings of a true-crime hit. Rounding out this month,...

Verdi Productions, run by Chad A. Verdi, Paul Luba, Chad Verdi, Jr.
and Michelle Verdi, plans to release three films in 2024 that were previously put on hold since actors were unable to promote work during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
“Workers in the film industry are getting financially destroyed by these strikes, whether it’s actors, writers, directors or crew. Most of these individuals were already working multiple jobs to get by,” Verdi said in a statement. “This widespread production shutdown didn’t hurt the top 1% in the industry but ruined many people who work week-to-week and paycheck-to-paycheck. It’s very unfortunate to see. Let’s get our union members a fair deal so that they can get back to doing what they love.”

There's yet another scandal engulfing the "Vanderpump Rules" universe, although a bit different from the highly publicized Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval breakup. Movie producer and former "Vanderpump Rules" star Randall Emmett is the subject of a new Hulu documentary called "The Randall Scandal: Love, Loathing, and Vanderpump," which delves into his history of alleged abusive behavior across his years in Hollywood, which he has denied.
News of Emmett's alleged ongoing controversial behavior first went public in June 2022 when an explosive Los Angeles Times investigation unearthed numerous reports about his alleged inappropriate conduct, as well as other misdeeds, such as huge amounts of debt claimed to be owed by his production company, Emmett/Furla Oasis Films. Meanwhile, Emmett's spokesperson, Sallie Hofmeister, denied all allegations on his behalf, per the outlet.
On May 17, Emmett released a statement to Page Six further denouncing the LA Times report and documentary. "Almost one year...

Walker is an assassin, one of the best in the business. But this time one of the witnesses wasn’t as dead as they seemed to be. With his cover potentially blown, he needs a trip to “Reassignment Center 42” to be fitted out with a new identity, a process that he seems to be quite familiar with.
This time however there’s barely time for him to have his fingerprints burned off before the facility comes under attack by a team of heavily armed mercenaries under the command of Keates. Their target is Juliet and her protector Elda.
Director Brad Watson’s credits run more towards horror films such as Beacon 77 and For We Are Many than action, and The Siege is Nicole Bartlett’s first produced script...

Robert De Niro is the latest movie star to make the move to TV. Netflix announced Wednesday that the Oscar-winning film legend will star in and executive-produce his first television project, the conspiracy thriller limited series “Zero Day,” from creators Eric Newman (“Narcos”) and Noah Oppenheim (“Jackie”).
“‘Zero Day’ asks the question on everyone’s mind — how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control?” goes the official logline for the series. “And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?”
Plot and character details were not revealed.
The limited series has a muscular writing-producing team behind it. Eric Newman is one of Netflix’s go-to producers. His credits for the streamer include “The Watcher,” the “Narcos” franchise, and the upcoming “Griselda” on the TV side,...

Netflix is getting back in the Robert De Niro business -- but this time, it won't be for a big-budget movie. Instead, the streaming service has partnered with the legendary actor for his very first TV series in the form of a conspiracy thriller titled "Zero Day." The limited series, which will run six episodes, was created by Noah Oppenheim ("Jackie"), who will serve as an executive producer alongside Eric Newman and De Niro.
De Niro, known for his roles in classics such as "Heat," "The Godfather Part II," and "Goodfellas," among many, many others, previously teamed with Netflix on Martin Scorsese's ambitious "The Irishman." Clearly, that experience went well enough for him to finally jump into the world of TV after a decades-long career that dates back to the '70s. As for what the show is about? The synopsis reads as follows:

Photo: 'Savage Salvation’ Payback ‘Savage Salvation’ is a new action thriller about payback. We all love a good payback film from time to time. When the hero is wronged and goes on the very dark path of revenge it can be very satisfying. I remember watching ‘Falling Down’ with Michael Douglas and he seemed to be taking his revenge on the world itself. There are several reasons why revenge films can be so rewarding. They often feature characters who have been wronged in some way and are seeking justice. This can be incredibly satisfying to watch, especially if the film is well-done and the characters are sympathetic. Reminiscent of the straight-to-video slush found in racks in corner shops, this southern-fried revenge thriller treads a fine line along the so-bad-it’s-good precipice
Let there be no confusion: this is an unarguably bad film. But it’s on the edge of being bad in a sort of delicious campy way, calling back to the kind of subpar, money laundering financed pulp one used to find for sale as dusty DVDs or videos in corner shops.
Like all great bad films, it features once A-list actors slumming it to pay off whatever debts they must have accrued in happier times when they were able to be fussier about what their agents fished out of the slush pile. In the case of Savage Justice (also known as Savage Salvation in markets less leery of Biblical language), the cast includes none other than formerly rising, now holding steady star Jack Huston (probably...

Robert De Niro is reportedly heading to Netflix to star in the upcoming limited series “Zero Day”.
According to Variety, plot details aren’t being divulged, but the project is said to be a “political thriller,” with De Niro portraying a former U.S. president. Noah Oppenheim and Eric Newman will be producing.
While it’s not a done deal yet, if De Niro does sign on it would mark his first time as a television series regular in a career that has brought him two Oscars (out of seven nominations) and multiple Emmy nominations.

Verdi Productions, the company behind “Bleed for This,” will back Hal Harley’s “Where to Land.” The film is scheduled to being shooting in the spring of 2023 in Rhode Island.
Hartley, a major force in American independent film, has been trying to get this off the ground for awhile. He launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money in 2020 just before the pandemic hit. He told potential donors that the script was “the best thing I’ve written.”
The film is a farce about a well-regarded 58-year-old director of romantic comedies who wants to become assistant groundskeeper at a local cemetery and work outdoors. Meanwhile, he thinks it’s important to have his last will and testament drawn up. But his actor girlfriend thinks he must be dying and that he is just too brave to tell anyone. Lone Survivor producer Randell Emmett today finds himself once again facing a litany of loathsome allegations, according to a multi-claim discrimination and hostile workplace lawsuit filed by a former personal assistant.

Actor Billy Zane and rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer Quavo are starring in action thriller feature film “Takeover.”
Zane plays Gamal Akopyan, the leader of an international heist ring, who uses street takeovers to get away with mass robberies. When his latest heist goes awry, he must do whatever it takes to escape the Atlanta takeover scene alive – with nine figures worth of diamonds.
Street takeovers are a U.S. phenomenon where motorists arrive at a particular location in a coordinated manner similar to flash mobs, block streets with their vehicles and engage in stunts with their cars. Criminals often use this time to conduct robberies.

After swatting back the Covid-19 scourge to some extent, Puerto Rico opened its ports in June 2020. With the year-long curfew lifted in May this year, it’s been business as usual on this Caribbean island of roughly 3,500 square miles.
The capital of San Juan held its first live audience concert on June 26, 2021 with salsa icon Gilberto Santa Rosa playing to thousands at the Puerto Rico Convention Center for the first time since the pandemic closed it down. According to Asm Global regional manager Jorge Perez, 15 other concerts have been announced, with 10 already sold out.
International acts are also coming in as most U.S. mainland venues remain closed. Plunging cases and a relatively high vaccination rate (up to 70%) has brought some semblance of normality and a growing number of location shoots to the U.S. territory, albeit with health and safety protocols still in place.

To paraphrase an old adage, there’s bound to be a silver lining in every cloud. Indeed, for some Caribbean island locations, the Covid-19 pandemic, despite some losses in human life, has been a blessing for their audiovisual industries. The Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, two of the most generous locations in terms of film incentives, are expecting a record boom.
“The number and size of projects coming to the country have increased exponentially,” says Albert Martinez, COO of Lantica Media, which operates the Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios. “By opening up earlier than other locations, many projects gravitated to us.”
Among the first major productions to film in the Dominican Republic, and which made full use of Pinewood Dr, was “Old,” M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller starring Gael Garcia Bernal.
The Dominican Republic’s film commission projects a total foreign production spend of around $176 million by year-end, up from $35 million last year.

John Boyega and Robert De Niro will star together in a crime thriller called “The Formula” at Netflix, and Gerard McMurray, the director of “The First Purge” and Netflix’s “Burning Sands,” will direct.
McMurray will write, direct and produce the film based on an original idea but that’s reminiscent of “Drive” about a Formula One racing prodigy who becomes a getaway driver in order to care for and rescue his family.
De Niro will also produce “The Formula” along with Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh.
Rosenthal and Welsh have an overall deal with Netflix, and “The Formula” came together under that arrangement. Jason Michael Berman is executive producing the film, and Ephraim Walker, working under McMurray’s banner Buppie Productions, is co-producing, as is Sam Shaw.
