The title is an adaptation of a phrase from a poem by Derrick Brown, entitled "Come Alive":
"And a great sorrow overwhelmed me,
for even the drums inside my chest
seemed to be growing quieter each day.
When did we become a library of children
shelved like great novels
no one has time to read?"
