- Supergirl finds an opportunity to escape from the Phantom Zone but it comes with some dangerous strings attached; Lena joins the Super Friends on a mission but finds she disagrees with their plan of action.
- The tower team try to deal with the spread of Prime "infecting" the citizens of National City, turning them into Progeny. To stop Prime, Alex will have to make the ultimate sacrifice - and Lean proves uncooperative. In the Phantom Zone, Supergirl has an ally turn against her as she and Zor-El find a way to escape via the Anchor.—Gislef
- Nxy teleports herself, Supergirl, and Zor-El to the Anchor, and Supergirl says that she can still feel the Phantom that almost came through Nxy's portal with them. Zor-El realizes that the chill of the Phantoms is becoming too much for Supergirl. Over the next rise, Nxy finds the Anchor on the plain below.
On Earth in the tower medbay, M'gann twitches in her sleep as she has a nightmare of being in a cavern surrounded by drained life forces. M'gann wakes up gasping and looks around.
Alex and J'onn return and J'onn tells Brainiac-5 that the one containment unit they have is full of Phantoms. Brainiac-5 prepares another containment unit, and Supergirl figures that they would have stopped the Phantom invasion by now.
Dreamer is showing Lena around the tower, and Lena thanks them for making her feel welcome. M'gann comes in and says that she had a vision of the Phantoms' lair, and thinks that she's still connected to the hive mind of Prime and his Progeny. Brainiac-5 figures that while J'onn transferred part of M'gann soul back into her body, the primary part is still linked to Prime, and she's still 18% Phantom. M'gann figures that she has the Phantoms' power to home in on a life force, even in the Zone... letting her find Supergirl.
Brainiac-5 says that M'gann can also return the captive souls, restoring the people who were transformed into Progeny. Lena shows that she's created a Prototrap that will capture Prime and his Progeny hands-free, and transport them to containment. Alex was afraid they'd never rescue Supergirl and stop the Phantom invasion.
An alarm goes off showing that the Progeny are hurting, and Alex picks up a cold signature at the Noonan's at Grand Central Station. She monitors it while the others leave without Lena, and Brainiac-5 takes the Prototrap
At the station, the four heroes find the place frozen. A Progeny is killing a victim, and J'onn blasts it. Brainiac-5 captures it with the Prototrap, and the victim's life force leaves her body. It flies off, and M'gann flies after it. Dreamer has a vision of Midvale High School's football field, and the victim turns into a Progeny. M'gann telepathically sends a SOS to J'onn, and Brainiac-5 tells him to go while they handle the Progeny.
After J'onn flies off, the Progeny avoids Dreamer's initial attack. The air temperature drops further, and a portal opens and Prime comes through. He's grown from all of the life forces that he's captured, and Brainiac-5 uses the Prototrap on Prime. It fights back and flies back through the portal with the Progeny.
The life force speeds away from M'gann, who tries to keep up with it. She falls out of the sky and J'onn catches her.
Supergirl and the others go to the Anchor's doors, and Supergirl manages to pry them open. She says that the portal should look like a mirror, and Zor-El says that only the righteous can activate it. They find it and Zor-El has Supergirl activate it so he can be sure. She does but the mirror doesn't work, and Zor-El says that it was wrong to have hoped. Nxy tries to use her magic to fix the mirror, but nothing happens.
Zor-El frustrated, prepares to leave. Supergirl points out all that they've done against hope, and says that Mother would never have left the Anchor guards strengthened. Zor-El and Nxy figure she would have built a second mirror, and put in the supply rooms.
Back at the tower, M'gann says as she followed the life force, she felt herself turning into a Progeny. Brianiac-5 figures that when M'gann flew too close to her original soul, it repelled the fragment of soul in M'gann. He then warns that if Prime reaches full maturity, he'll be unstoppable and it will be impossible to release the life forces in him. On Dheron, the Prime there reached full maturity and the heroes there were unable to break open the Chrysalis and free the life Dheronian life forces.
If they release the life forces, M'gann will regain her original soul but lose her sensing power and be unable to find Supergirl in the Zone. J'onn says that they have to focus on releasing the life forces and saving National City, or there will be a global pandemic of infection. Alex says that they have to do both, and Lena figures that there has to be another way to find Prime's lair.
J'onn says that they'll combine M'gann's with Dreamer's power, while Lena works on duplicating M'gann's sensing power. They go to work on their separate tasks.
That night, Alex checks on Lena. Lena figures that she can use Q-Waves, but says that she'll need a piece of Kara's DNA to track her. Alex says that she might have an idea.
Brianiac-5 brings Dreamer an empty box of donuts that he's eaten, and she tells him about her vision, which is of Kara and Alex at Midvale. She figures that with his inhibitors off, Brianiac-5 is feeling a lot of emotions. She tells him that he's eating rather than embracing his emotions like Lena advised him, and says that she's there if he wants to talk. Brianiac-5 says that he can stop comfort-eating whenever he wants, and Dreamer says that it's okay and leaves.
In the Zone, the trio split up to search the storage rooms and Zor-El yells. Supergirl goes to him and finds him clutching his leg. He says that Scar attacked him. Nxy is there and says that she chased him off, and that they shouldn't have split up. Supergirl and Nxy help Zor-El up, and he figures that his ankle is broken. Nxy tries but her magic is depleted. She apologizes for being unable to help, and Supergirl says that it was her decision to split up.
Nxy says that it will take two of them to move the mirror to the exit point. Zor-El says that he'll barricade the door and be safe, and asks Supergirl to leave him. She tells her father that they'll come back for him as soon as they can.
Alex brings the hologram device, and she and Lena play the hologram where Supergirl talked about how her friends are her family, and in the end they come back stronger as ever. Once the recording ends, Alex explains that the crystal contains Kara's digital life force, and Lena should use it for her device. Lena warns that if she extracts it, Alex will lose the recording forever. She warns Alex that there's no guarantee her plan will succeed, and Alex says that the trusts her. The two of them go to work.
The next morning, J'onn has M'gann and Dreamer locate the highest concentration of life forces, which should be at Prime's lair. The two heroines link their powers, and Dreamer finds herself in a warehouse. She looks around for clues, and has a vision of a young Kara, Alex, and a teenage boy at Midvale field.
Focusing, Dreamer sees the Chrysalis. Life forces float past it and go into it, and Progeny close in on Dreamer's dream self. She breaks her trance, and says that she saw Midvale again but couldn't find the lair. She warns that the Chrysalis is turning solid, and they're running out of time.
Brianiac-5 continues to eat, and says that according to his calculations, the Chrysalis will become solid in one hour. M'gann offers to take them to it even though it will cause her to transform, and Alex says that they have another choice. Alex goes to Lena, who has perfected her device, and tells her that they need to recalibrate the device to find the Chrysalis. Lena says that if they recalibrate it, they'll lose Kara's DNA. Alex says that they'll find another way, and Lena wonders how Alex can choose other people over her other sisters. The other woman says that Kara would choose to save others over herself, and relies on those she loves to follow her example, and asks Lena to not make it any harder.
Lena says that she has to bring Kara back, because it's her only chance to make things right. Alex tell Lena to forgive herself, and all that matters is that she do the right thing now. She then uses her powers to take the tracking device, telling Lena that she can't take no for an answer.
Supergirl and Nxy take the replacement mirror to the control room and put in place, then Supergirl activates the portal controls. The mirror shows Supergirl the Fortress, and she goes to find Zor-El. Nxy says that they can't and it's too dangerous. She tells Supergirl that Zor-El has been holding them back, and stuck Supergirl in a pod when she was a child and sent her to a foreign planet alone. Supergirl says that she' going back for Zor-El, and Nxy says that she should have slit his throat when she had the chance. Instead she conjured herself up as Scar and let Zor-El live, and let him live for Supergirl.
Nxy tells Supergirl that she shouldn't be so shocked, and Supergirl wanted to be free of her father but was too weak to do it herself. The imp says that the power she has on Earth will be a thousand fold what she has in the Zone. Nxy planned on going back to the Fifth Dimension to punish those who didn't stand by her. She has to go through Supergirl's home to get to her, and plans on having a little "fun" while she's there. Supergirl says that Nxy will only do it through her dead body.
Alex, J'onn, Brianiac-5, and Dreamer use uses the tracking device to find the lair in the sewers, and judging by the temperature they figure that they're close. Progeny attack them, and J'onn is wounded fighting one of them off. He tells Alex to run, and the other Progeny overwhelm him and strip his life force away.
A Phantom grabs Brianiac-5 from the shadows and yanks him away. As he disappears into the shadow, he tells Alex and Dreamer to get to the Chrysalis. They continue on, find a ladder, and climbs up into the warehouse above. They find the Chrysalis there, and realize that the inside of the warehouse is a Zone on Earth.
Dreamer blasts them back and creates a tunnel of energy for Alex to run through. The Progeny grab her, and she has more visions of Midvale. The Progeny attack Alex, and she fends them off. As Prime arrives, Alex uses the tracker to release the life forces. Some of them flow back into their original hosts, and Prime shrinks back to his normal side and then reverts to human.
The Progeny imprisoned in the tower transform back to their human selves, as do the ones in the warehouse. Prime prepares to kill Alex, but J'onn, Dreamer and Brianiac-5 arrive, weaken it with their powers, and Brianiac-5 puts Prime in the Prototrap.
Nxy easily beats the powerless Supergirl. A self-destruct activates due to "prisoner interference", and Supergirl says that they have to go. Nxy says that the only way she's leaving is through the mirror, and Supergirl smashes it with a metal weapon before Nxy can stop her. Nxy collapses to her knees in frustration, and refuses to go with Supergirl. Supergirl runs out as the flames from the self-destruct consume the chamber.
Later on the tower balcony, Lena joins Alex and offers her some scotch. Lena says that Alex was right about the Chrysalis, and is sorry she fought Alex on her. She tells Alex that she doesn't belong with the team, and isn't like the others. Lena explains that they're true heroes, and Alex made the painful sacrifice was the right thing to do. She doesn't think she can do it. Alex says that earlier, she wanted to drop everything and go after Kara. Alex drew on her training as a soldier to pull through.
Alex says that Lena has a big heart, and they all have different life experiences. It's their willingness to hear each other out that makes them a team. Alex assures Lena that they couldn't have succeeded without her device, and she belongs with the team.
Nia finds Brianiac-5, who has finished off the donuts and says that his hopeless feeling won't go away no matter how much eats. She says that she's had more dreams about Midvale, and she doesn't know how to stop or interpret them. Nia wishes that her mother was there. Brianiac-5 takes Nia's hand and says that she has him, and she says that they have each other.
M'gann is watching the imprisoned Prime. J'onn joins her and says that Prime will never hurt M'gann again. The others come in, and Alex wishes that there was a way to use Prime to make a new tracking device. J'onn says that he's used his telepathy on Prime, and confirmed he only operates on instinct. Lena figures that if they can get their hands on more of Kara's DNA, Prime will find her by instinct. They figure that they can get more of Kara's DNA from when she lost her powers, and Alex remembers a time that it happened in Midvale.
Brianiac-5 realizes the significance of Nia's dreams, and she says that they have to go back in time to Midvale High.
Supergirl runs away from the Anchor , takes cover, and sees it collapse with Nyx and Zor-El inside.
