Who doesn’t like a good murder mystery, especially one that keeps you on the edge of your seat guessing who the killer is until the credits roll? Based on the 2017 Spanish film The Invisible Guest directed by Oriol Paulo but with a revamped ending, writer/director Yoon Jong-seok’s South Korean thriller Confession had its Canadian Premiere at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival. On Friday 22 April the awaited world premiere of “The Italian Recipe”, directed by director Hou Zuxin and shot in Rome, will officially open the Far East Film Festival 24th edition. An irresistible Chinese romantic comedy that, after the Feff, will be released at home in thousands of cinemas, bringing with it a lot of Italy: the locations, the crew and, the co-production. In fact, alongside China we find Cristiano Bortone’s Orisa Produzioni and Roberta Manfredi and Alberto Simone’s Dauphine Film Company, with Rai Cinema and with the support of the Lazio Region, Fondo Lazio Cinema International and the support of Roma Lazio Film Commission (and Lightburst Pictures in Berlin). Liu Xun and Huang Yao (applauded at Feff 19 for “The Crossing”) give life to a brilliant pair game and give us a very contemporary variation on the theme of Roman Holidays!

The Far East Film Festival in Italy’s Udine has set Chinese-Italian co-production “The Italian Recipe” as the opening title of a revived, largely in-person event.
The film, directed by Hou Zuxin, sees an unexpected series of events bring together a Chinese reality TV show contestant and a woman already resident in Italy. The collision of personalities, connections and chemistry between stars Liu Xun and Yao Huang resemble those of “Roman Holiday,” festival organizers suggest. The film has its world premier on Friday next week, launching a nine-day event that runs until April 22-30.
The 2022 selection runs to 72 titles, selected from over 400 submissions, numbers that organizers say, is proof that Asian filmmaking was not halted by the Covid-19 pandemic. “The fear, not unreasonable, given all the halted productions, dismantled sets and release dates announced and then postponed for months, that there wouldn’t be many films to choose from was...
