Making a top ten list of your favourite movies can be difficult, but is it any easier when you narrow that list down to a single decade? IndieWire asked dozens of filmmakers to put together a list of their favourite 80s movies, and the results are as widely varied as the decade itself. Which 80s movies does Bill Hader hold dear to his heart? What are some of Nia DaCosta’s favourites? Can Edgar Wright actually contain himself to just ten movies? What horror movies of the 80s top Eli Roth’s list?
Bill Hader’s (Barry) Favourite 80s Movies:

Amy HeckerlingThe films of Amy Heckerling reveal a heart guarded and tender, a penchant for the past without a whiff of the maudlin. Who could forget her debut, Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Directed from Cameron Crowe's script, the 1982 film gave us frank portrayals of sexuality and the detailed minutiae of growing up, suspended in the hazy tedium of high school, all without condescension or patronizing. Totally righteous. Heckerling proved attuned to the particulars of comedy with her next feature Johnny Dangerously (1984), a waggish send-up of the 1930s gangster comedy. In its cheeky beginning, a 1935 title card reveals itself to be a real material object that crumbles when car crash obliterates its façade. With a darkened lash line, a young Michael Keaton puts forth his best James Cagney as the titular mobster whose identity and status are known to all but his ailing ma and brother, a rising assistant Da.

In a dark future, ex-con Alex Braith travels to a refinery rig on Titan to retrieve the remains of her sister, Amber, after she died of mysterious circumstances. The ship Alex boards, the Southern Cross, is not what it seems. Ghosts and hallucinations plague the passengers, and the crew might know more about it than they are telling. Mystery abounds as Alex navigates confined spaces. How did Amber die? What is haunting the Southern Cross? Alex will find answers to these questions…if she doesn’t go mad first.
Becky Cloonan has made herself a household name artist in the indie scene with works such as Demo and American Virgin. Recently, she co-wrote Gotham Academy with Brenden Fletcher and Karl Kerschl. Now, she has teamed up with...

Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films
Directed by Mark Hartley
Australia, 2014
From the late 70s to the early 90s, Menahem Golan and Yorum Globus, two Israeli cousins, ran the Cannon Films studio. The men produced dozens of mindless exploitation films, from Death Wish III to The Last American Virgin. Mark Hartley’s film sets out to define the producers’ legacy, with special emphasis on the men’s unorthodox and eccentric professional conduct. The result is a light, funny documentary that could benefit from the inclusion of more insightful material.
Both men started out in the Israeli film industry and produced more than 30 motion pictures before gaining tremendous financial success with the sexploitation movie Lemon Popsicle (later remade as American Virgin). The cousins moved to America shortly after in the hopes of securing international fame. Over the course of the next decade their studio established itself as a breeding ground for schlocky cinema.

Last weekend at Comic-Con, I had a chance to interview Man of Action’s Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau, along with artist Jason Adam Katzenstein. Not only did we discuss their Sdcc-exclusive comic book, The Bus: A Camp Midnight Mini, but and I was able to learn about their involvement in Disney and Marvel’s Big Hero 6.
Daily Dead readers will really enjoy what you guys put together for The Bus: A Camp Midnight Mini comic book. How did this project come together?
Steven T. Seagle: I met Jason through a mutual friend, Daryl Sabara. With Comic-Con being so much about movies and TV shows, I thought it would be fun to have a comic at Comic-Con.
Can you tell our readers a little bit about this new story you’ve created?

Going about her daily routine, Jenna Dewan-Tatum showed up at a yoga studio in London, England this morning (April 19).
The pregnant “American Virgin” starlet sipped a freshly-squeezed orange juice as she strolled up the street, showing off her baby bump with a purple maternity top.
And it sounds like Jenna and her husband Channing Tatum are making the most of their time in the UK with some luxury digs.
An insider shared, “Jenna and Channing are living in an exclusive apartment building in north London. Their apartment building is one of the best in London with flats costing between £2.5 to 3 million.
“They have a swimming pool in the grounds and underground parking and spacious gardens for Jenna to walk around with her two dogs.”...

Earlier today, whilst mired in a state of pure boredom, I found myself wondering if Brett Ratner‘s directing career in Hollywood was ending. It might sound like a crazy idea, but his recent wave of horrible comments — immediately following the underperformance of Tower Heist, his first movie in more than four years — and the slightly pathetic Oscar resignation made me think it wasn’t impossible.
But we’re talking about Hollywood, a land where offensive remarks and actions are forgotten at the drop of a paycheck; notions of such a disappearance were quickly dispelled. Ratner has some big projects, including the Spielberg-produced The 39 Clues, and I doubt those will get thrown out over some statements. Plus, when he wasn’t talking about his testicles during an appearance on Howard Stern (via ThePlaylist), the director announced his intent to remake The Last American Virgin.

Stan Lee has been an exceptionally popular guy since Comic-Con a few weeks ago — or so his many photo-posts would have us believe. Most recently, it seems he's been buddying up with Jim Carrey.

The Truffle Shuffling U.S. women's soccer fan in the stands for the World Cup final yesterday must have caught Christos Gage's eye because he tweeted about his own Shuffle frustrations this morning. The international sports event provided a brief distraction from the Comic-Con craziness and Harry Potter sadness that was otherwise flooding our feed.

Here are clips from NBC's 2011-2012 drama lineup. The shows include Prime Suspect, The Playboy Club, Smash, Grimm, Awake, and The Firm. Earlier we shared the comedy clips and the schedule. I have been interested in The Playboy Club since when it was first announced. Smash looks pretty cool as well. Check out the clips below and share your thoughts!
Prime Suspect:
‘Prime Suspect’ -- Based on the critically acclaimed British television series of the same name, "Prime Suspect" has been redeveloped for American audiences by writer Alexandra Cunningham ("Desperate Housewives," "NYPD Blue"), director Peter Berg (NBC's "Friday Night Lights") -- and stars Maria Bello ("A History of Violence") as tough-as-nails Detective Jane Timoney. Timoney finds that being a homicide detective in New York City is tough enough and having to contend with a male-dominated police department to get respect makes it that much tougher. It's that time again, and NBC has revealed it's 2011-2012 schedule. A couple of things have been kicked to the curb, and a host of new shows are coming to fill things in. I have a preview of the new fall shows, and the full schedule for you. There are a few surprises on the cut and not cut side of things, and the new shows have a bit of something for everyone. As usual, some of the ones that look the best to me are reserved for mid-season. And, NBC has apparently given up on Saturday altogether.
It's a whole lot of info, so let's just jump in.

Chicago – The slow trickle of news regarding NBC cancellations and renewals has finally burst the dam and we have the entire Fall schedule to present along with descriptions of the new programs and time/day changes for several of your favorites.
Chuck

NBC will aggressively try to right a ratings-challenged ship by programming 12 new programs over the year — 6 new dramas and 6 new comedies. Many of them won’t premiere until mid-season and “30 Rock” won’t return until then either, running uninteruppted from that point (not unlike “Parks and Recreation” did this year). In other major news, the final, 13-episode season of “Chuck” will air on Friday nights.
The returning shows for the network include “Parenthood,” “Harry’s Law,” “Chuck,” “Community,” “Parks and Recreation,” “The Office,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “The Voice,” “The Sing-Off,” “The Celebrity Apprentice,” “The Biggest Loser,” “30 Rock,” and “Dateline NBC.”

The eyeball-rolling starts early and often in 'Battle: Los Angeles,' an alien invasion picture that drowns in its own bathetic soap opera.
Visually arresting, with dynamic shaky-cam combat footage mixed seamlessly with a myriad of explosions and an endless army of alien footsoldiers, the film never bothers to develop the characters beyond the most rudimentary stereotypes. Thus we have Soldier Mourning Fallen Comrade, Nigerian Medic, American Virgin, Man Preparing to Get Married, Man Leaving Behind Pregnant Wife, Unexpectedly Combat-Ready Female Soldier, Devoted Father, Beautiful Civilian, and, let's not forget, Bug-Like Extraterrestrials With Nefarious Motives.
The only character who's explored to any degree is Staff Sergeant Nantz, played by Aaron Eckhart at his most heroic. And, frankly, we hear entirely too much about him. As the story begins, he's completed his 20 years of service in the Marines and wants out. Not least of his...

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson invaded the Twittersphere as a trending topic Monday night when he returned to professional wrestling and announced that he will be hosting Wrestlemania Xxvii in April. Jeff Katz, Jill Thompson and Becky Cloonan all seemed excited about that, even as Jhonen Vasquez sounded a little aggravated about his Valentine's Day expenses.
The other big TV star of the night was a computer named Watson who competed against some simple human beings on "Jeopardy!" A call for the computer's destruction along with some evil plans for Moon Knight and a poetically minimalist summary of "Watchmen" can be see after the jump.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for February 15, 2011.
@JhonenV Valentines Day gets freaking expensive what with the cash spent on rope, a new clubbin' bat, chloroform And rag, and a new cage.

In a recent post about Channing Tatum’s New York-based thriller ‘Son of No One‘ we learned that it had been chosen as the closing film for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
Now, thanks to Collider.com you can check out the first official photo from the film, which shows Chan in an intense scene with his incomparable co-star Al Pacino.
‘Son of No One‘ is about two men in post-9/11 New York who are forced to relive two murders they committed as young boys, and their lives start to unravel by the threat of the revelation of these shocking and personal secrets. In addition to Chan and Mr.Pacino, the star-studded cast also includes Katie Holmes (who plays Chan’s character’s wife), Tracy Morgan, Ray Liotta, and Juliette Binoche.
All I can say is that (even in Russian), the trailer looks absolutely amazing…

You're probably used to using a Zagat guide to find a good restaurant or a cool place to shop, but I bet you haven't yet used it to locate a good movie to watch. This year Zagat Survey has released what they consider to be the definitive World's Best Movies guide featuring the top 1,000 films of all time based on the input of 20,773 moviegoers who voted through their site. As with their other guides, each film has been rated on Zagat's 30-point scale based on four separate categories: Overall Quality, Acting, Story and Production Values.
Somewhat surprisingly (especially since a lot of younger film fanatics seem to ignore films created prior to 1970), the top 20 films featured in their Overall Quality category predominantly come from the 1970s, 1960s, and earlier, with only two films from the past 10 years ('Finding Nemo', 'The Pianist'), two from the 1990s ('Shawshank Redemption',...

Rob Schneider will voice the title character in Crest Animation Studios' stereoscopic 3D family film "Norm of the North." The role comes on the heels of the former "Saturday Night Live" performer signing for representation with the Gersh Agency.
Written by Steven and Daniel Altiere, "Norm" tells the story of the titular polar bear and his three Arctic lemming buddies, who end up in New York after their icy home begins to melt and break apart. Lionsgate is distributing the film in North America.
Ken Jeong and Loretta Devine also star for director Anthony Bell, who co-helmed the first Lionsgate-Crest collaboration, the October CG-animated release "Alpha and Omega." The companies have a three-picture deal.
Lionsgate exec Ken Katsumoto is overseeing "Norm." Crest's Noah Fogelson and Richard Rich are producing.
With his latest comedy, "Grown Ups," grossing $143 million in U.S. theaters so far, Schneider is on the stand-up circuit...

As the only literate Reject, it’s my duty to find the latest, the greatest and the untouched classics that would make great source material for film adaptations. I read so you don’t have to. This week, Print to Projector presents: American Virgin by Steven T. Seagle Art by Becky Cloonan and Frank Quitely “I’m a virgin.” Synopsis Young Christian author and evangelist Adam Chamberlain extols the beauty of abstinence on speaking tours but has his faith and humanity tested when he learns that his girlfriend Cassie has been beheaded while doing missionary work in Africa. He joins up with his sexually liberal step-sister to go find out what happened, leaving his Neocon mother and delinquent brother behind to spin further down a rabbit hole of cross-dressing, pornography and God. Print By all accounts, “American Virgin” is insane. Adam is the very definition of a conflicted character who struggles with what he knows in his...

At France’s Cannes Film Festival a couple of weeks ago, London-based Berkeley Square Films announced that Channing Tatum will star in Richie Farrell’s inspirational detox drama ‘What’s Left of Us‘, a hard-hitting chronicle of seven excruciating days in detox for a heroin addict.
Farrell, a former addict who directed the HBO documentary ‘High on Crack Street: Lost Lives in Lowell,’ will adapt his own gritty novel “What’s Left of Us“, which is based on his true story.
The author, who fought his way back from a deep drug addiction to land on both bookstore shelves and the silver screen, was recently interviewed by the The Cabinet Press and shared how the film came to fruition and why he feels Chan is perfect for the role.

Not much in the way of new DVD releases this week unless you're a Pixar fan, but then hey... who isn't a Pixar fan? Up is by far the biggest release of the week (so big that no one really wanted to go up against it) and I fully expect to hear reports of it breaking Blu-ray sales records at some point in the near future. Cars and Monsters, Inc. are also out on Blu-ray this week, along with both Heat and Red Heat. (That's called synergy.) Other new discs include The Ugly Truth starring Gerard Butler and Katherin Heigl, Spread starring Ashton Kutcher, and the 2008 Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Ballast. What will you be renting or buying this week? Up [1] (DVD, Blu-ray [2]) The Ugly Truth [3] (DVD, Blu-ray [4]) Ballast [5] In The Loop [6] (Canada only) Spread [7] (DVD, Blu-ray [8]) Ink [9] The Echo [10] (DVD, Blu-ray [11]) American Virgin [12] Summer's Moon [13] The Accidental Husband [14] The Merry Gentleman [15] Mamma Mia!

Did you leave "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" scratching your head over Stan Lee's absence? Well, he laid out a simple explanation on his Twitter account this weekend that should tell you which Marvel films he will or will not appear in going forward.
Meanwhile, Erik Larsen tweeted at length about the different demands placed on artists in comics versus animation and interjected a critique of "Sin City." Check out all of those posts, as well as Edgar Wright's affection for "X Factor," Dan Slott's father/son bonding moment over "Mad Men," and much more.
It's all in the Twitter Report for October 19, 2009.
"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" cameo pt 1: @smilinstanlee Lots of fellow titterers ask why I didn't have a cameo in Wolverine. Answer is simple. It was shot in Australia. Didn't have time to go.
-Stan Lee, Writer ("The Amazing Spider-Man," "Ravage 2099")

I just wanted to remind UK fans that Jenna Dewan's comedy 'American Virgin' with veteran comedian Rob Schneider was just released on DVD and Blu-ray Today!!!
'American Virgin', from the creator of Legally Blonde, is the story of Priscilla White (played by Jenna), a young woman who is smart, sexy and pure as the driven snow. She's a poster girl for the Can't Hurry Love abstinence-before-marriage group, vowing to stay true until she marries her high school sweetheart.
But when Priscilla gets to college on a scholarship, she finds herself rooming with Naz, a flashy and precocious party girl extraordinaire who's determined to make her 7th year of school the most outrageous yet.
Wanting her to fit in her new surroundings, Naz drags Priscilla into the social whirl until one disastrous party finds her waking up with more than just a hangover to worry about.
