Exclusive: James Wan’s Atomic Monster has teamed with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Studios on Concrete Jungle, an urban nature docuseries.
Based on an original idea from Wan and Ingrid Bisu, Concrete Jungle is described as “not your typical natural history show”. It follows the secret lives of urban animals – food foraging and hunting, dating and mating habits, internal clashes and turf wars with other species — and these aren’t the traditional, majestic animals from exotic, picturesque places like the African savanna or South Asian jungles.
Per the description, it “stars grungy, hardened, and clever critters abiding in the gritty Concrete Jungles of America, from bobcats to crows to coyotes to squirrels and more. Uncoupled has been cancelled by Netflix after just one season.
The series stars Neil Patrick Harris as a man who must suddenly navigate life as a gay bachelor in his forties after his partner of 17 years suddenly walks out on him.
Alongside Harris, the series starred Tuc Watkins, Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks, and Marcia Gay Harden.
Uncoupled premiered back in July 2022, receiving generally positive reviews. In a three-star write-up for The Independent, Amanda Whiting wrote that the series’ jokes “feel like stabs at relevance that have already started going stale”.

Now, Variety reports that the series has been cancelled by the streaming service.

Wednesday Addams is taking the world by storm in a way that, thankfully, doesn't involve putting her twisted mind to work. Were you to ask the macabre teen herself, her version of world domination would probably involve piranhas, communing with the dead, and ridding the world of any color that isn't her signature despairing black. But the reality of her popularity isn't so bleak: It mostly manifests in TikTok dances, Halloween costumes, and some of the funniest fan edits that society has ever seen. Netflix's "Wednesday" is that kind of popular, as you've most likely noticed it trending at the top of the charts for many weeks.
Whether you sought it out or stumbled onto it via social media, you've definitely encountered the clip of Jenna Ortega's ultra-goth dance scene and maybe even considered trying it out yourself. Mileage on the show certainly varies — in her review, /Film's...

Netflix has put an end to the mystery series "1899" after just one season. The twisty series' co-creator Baran Bo Odar took to Instagram today to share the news, posting, "With a heavy heart we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed."
Odar co-created the series with Jantje Friese, and the pair previously worked together on the streamer's hit German-language series "Dark." Although "1899" hasn't been quite as loudly buzzed-about as "Dark" since its premiere in November, the eight-episode first season still garnered mostly positive reviews from critics and even took the second spot in Netflix's Top 10 upon its release, per Variety. Apparently, though, the noteworthy viewership and narrative intrigue weren't enough to convince the company to renew the series about the strange happenings aboard and around the steamship Kerberos.

When it comes to changes in the television landscape, 2022 has been rough. Almost every streaming service or major cable network seemed to have some kind of major loss or merger. The result was a whole lot of cost-cutting, which unfortunately meant that some beloved shows got the axe, many before their time. The CW ended many of its superhero shows as the network goes through a total re-brand, Warner Bros. Discovery's merger led them to cut hundreds of millions of dollars worth of content, and Netflix lost 50 billion in value overnight back in January, leading to a year of heavy cancellations. It seemed like every time we turned around, something else was getting cut, and it's been devastating for fans.
Some of the shows we lost only had a single, audacious season before getting cut short, while others have been around for years. Some, like the divisive and ridiculously expensive "Westworld,...

Netflix is parting ways with Warrior Nun.
Deadline reported Tuesday afternoon that the cult favorite has been canceled after two seasons.
The second season of the series launched on November 10, but there was a lack of promotion for the series, likely contributing to the lower-than-expected performance.
Netflix had several opportunities to promote the show, including at its Tudum Global Fan Event, but the streaming service elected to let the show slip under the radar.
As a result, Warrior Nun Season 2 spent just three weeks in the streamer's weekly Top 10 for English-language series, with #5 being the peak.
The series also showed up on the Nielsen Streaming Chart for the week of November 7, with 595 million minutes viewed, coming in ahead of The Handmaid's Tale, Andor, and The Watcher for that week.

Crafting a compelling found-footage horror story can be tricky. The format can be exhausting if not used effectively, and the scares can only land when supported by a well-crafted story. The first season of Netflix's "Archive 81" managed to stick the landing by offering a taut puzzle-box mystery that incorporated the found footage format to strong effect. Unfortunately, the horror series was rudely canceled by Netflix, which had ended on a delicious cliffhanger, leaving fans of the show (and me) fuming.
There are several reasons for the show's popularity. Firstly, the series is based on the popular horror podcast of the same name, and the narrative weaves together a thrilling tale about lost tapes, cults, mysterious disappearances, and demonic activity. At the heart of "Archive 81" is a tale of radical empathy and compassion, in which the fates of Dan (Mamoudou Athie) and Melody (Dina Shihabi) are intertwined across space and time.

Last year, we heard that the filmmaking duo of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead were “returning to their DIY indie origins” with a new project called Something in the Dirt. Now a teaser trailer for Something in the Dirt has arrived online – and along with that comes the information that the movie is going to receive a theatrical release on November 4th!
Benson and Moorhead directed Something in the Dirt from a script written by Benson. The duo also produced the film and star in it… and the movie was actually filmed in their apartments during the pandemic shutdown. Here’s the story they’re telling with this one:
Two new neighbors witness what seems to be a supernatural event in one of their apartments. At first terrified, they realize that documenting this phenomenon could provide them the lives they’ve always dreamed of.

"Archive 81" is no longer alive at Netflix. The streaming service confirmed that the show has been canceled after only a single season. It's a cancelation that has folks wondering about the massive black box of Netflix's metrics, given that the public-facing side of those metrics pointed to a very successful series.
"Archive 81" was developed for streaming by showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine and produced by James Wan's Atomic Monster. It told the story of Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie), a young man with a traumatic past hired to restore video tapes damaged in an accident. The show jumped between Dan in the present...

There's some sad news for fans of the Netflix series "Archive 81" — it's been canceled after only one season, despite the creators' hopes and plans for a season 2.
According to Deadline, the streamer has opted not to continue the series, which is based on the popular podcast of the same name. While it's not surprising for Netflix, which has a history of canceling shows after their premiere seasons, it is kind of surprising for "Archive 81," which was doing big numbers for the streaming service. It debuted at number 7 on Netflix's internal rankings, then jumped up to number 2, just behind the award-winning hit series "Ozark."

“Archive 81” will not receive a second season on Netflix, TheWrap has learned.
The series, from creator Rebecca Sonnenshine, starred Mamoudou Athie as video archivist Dan Turner, who was restoring tapes in the present, originally shot by Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi) in 1994 at the mysterious Visser apartment building.
In different timelines, both Dan and Melody uncover disturbing secrets about a destructive, demon-worshipping cult.
The series, which costarred Martin Donovan, Evan Jonigkeit, Julia Chan, Ariana Neal and Matt McGorry, was loosely inspired by the podcast of the same name.
Sonnenshine created the series and served as showrunner and executive producer. James Wan and Michael Clear of Atomic Monster also executive produced with Rebecca Thomas, Antoine Douaihy and Paul Harris Boardman.

The cancellation is somewhat surprising because Archive 81 did break into Nielsen and Netflix’s weekly Top 10 ratings for originals, and it also briefly shot to No. 1 on Netflix in the U.S. before being dethroned by the return of Ozark. With the streamer laser-focused on analyzing viewing versus cost in its renewal decisions, the number of eyeballs Archive 81 drew possibly did not meet the threshold Netflix had set for the series based on its budget.

The latest teaser for Marvel’s Moon Knight has plenty of exciting action shots and hints of mystery. We get to see Oscar Isaac playing both desert-bound mercenary Marc Spector and timid English shopkeeper Steven Grant, but you may have noticed that the show seems a little scarier than your average MCU offering!
Not only does Ethan Hawke’s cult leader Arthur Harrow give off creepy vibes, but the teaser is filled with jump scares. There’s even a menacing, skeletal creature sure to be the Egyptian god Khonshu, who resurrects Spector and makes him his earthly agent.
Really, the tone shouldn’t be too much of a surprise because Moon Knight has his roots in horror. The character first appeared in Werewolf by Night #32 (1975) as a bounty hunter sent to capture the lycanthropic Jack T. Russell. Ozark, whose fourth season just debuted its first batch of episodes on Netflix, recorded the fourth-highest weekly tally ever to repeat atop Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings.
During the week of January 24 to 30, the crime thriller series collected almost 4.1 billion minutes of streaming across its 37 episodes. That tally trails only Tiger King, which erupted with debut weeks of 5.3 billion and 4.4 billion minutes in March 2020. Ozark, during that same early-Covid timeframe when overall streaming was exploding due to pandemic lockdowns, racked up 5.2 billion minutes.
Nielsen said about 60% of Ozark viewers were between the ages of 35 and 64, with the remaining 40% evenly split between 18-34 and 65 and older. The premiere of the second part of Ozark’s fourth season has been set for April 29.

Nielsen said about 60% of Ozark viewers were between the ages of 35 and 64, with the remaining 40% evenly split between 18-34 and 65 and older. The premiere of the second part of Ozark’s fourth season has been set for April 29.
Disney had a strong week, with Encanto‘s remarkable hold continuing and marquee Star Wars spinoff The Book of Boba Fett rising to the No. 4 spot.

The podcast version of “Archive 81” had to sculpt an entire world out of just dialogue, music, sound effects, and the occasional agonizing bit of silence, but the Netflix series adaptation uses its sound design as just one of the many tools with which to create its world. The TV adaptation’s sounds have the luxury of lurking beneath the strange occurrences at the Visser Apartments in the 1990s, captured first by grad student Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi) and then decades later by archivist Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie), as he restores her tapes. Supervising sound editor Mark Relyea talked to IndieWire about “Archive 81” and its soundscape — including spoilers for the end of the show’s first season.
The first of the show’s sonic layers is, of course, all the stuff we do see on screen, and Reylea said the goal there was to be as authentic as possible,...

The debut of the first seven episodes in Ozark‘s fourth season helped the series rack up 2.9 billion streaming minutes in the U.S. for the week of January 17 to 23. That vaulted the Netflix series to the No. 1 spot on Nielsen’s weekly chart.
Season 3 of Ozark premiered in March 2020, so anticipation had been building for the fresh batch of episodes. Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed when the second part of Season 4 will premiere.
Evenly split between male and female viewers, according to Nielsen, the show also hits a broad range of ages. About 30% of viewership was in the 35-49-year-old bracket, and 30% was 50-64s.
The previous week’s No. 1 title, Encanto on Disney+, managed to slightly increase its audience, recording more than 1.5 billion minutes of streaming but dropping to No. 2. the week-to-week gain was rare, especially given t Disney+ also had The Book of Boba Fett back in the conversation in 10th place.

Growing up in the era of VHS, there was always something creepy about a broken tape. The hiss, the crackles, and the static ... a well-worn cassette could be absolutely terrifying. Halfway through the very scary 4th episode of Netflix's surprise smash "Archive 81," an artist named Cassandra (Kristin Griffith) glibly observes, "[all humans] are performers — in one way or another." I concur, Cassandra! Humans learn to walk, talk, and do almost everything through imitation. All the world's a stage. What Rebecca Sonnenshine's show terrifyingly posits is that the act of performance opens anyone up to spirits that might move through them — creative or otherwise.
In "Archive 81," the line between creative and otherwise is razor-thin. From Rebecca Thomas and James Wan to the white-hot team of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, there are many talented filmmakers involved in...
