Getting better each week.
agnabeya22 February 2021
Neville is finally finding his own way- the team are gelling together- and I really hope Marlon stays for good. He's the charming, essentially decent naughty boy- a bit like Dwayne Myers was. This is really becoming a can't miss comfort blanket show for me. Tropics, sunshine and engaging cast. And Katherine is becoming a key character too. Lovely.

The curse of the lottery winner.
Sleepin_Dragon21 January 2021
A lottery winner is killed on the island, was she killed by her husband or a visiting friend?

This very good tenth series continues with another very good episode, it's another very clever mystery, with a great set of characters, and lots going on for the main characters.

I did wonder is this one was going to be a letdown, it can happen with a celebrity lineup, but Kelvin Fletcher and Jason Manford are both great.

Neville, excellent again, new recruit Marlon.... I think he's going to be lots of fun, I thought this was a fine first full story for him as a Detective, he added some humour, but be was good.

An absorbing mystery, with another very clever conclusion, credit to the writer. I know they used the old 'is that what you just said' chestnut.

Another miserable January night brightened up, 8/10.

"Double or quits"
ygwerin116 April 2021
DI Neville Parker seems to have undergone something of a complete, metamorphosis since his arrival on Saint Marie.

So much so that it seems too good, to be true as its nothing short of miraculous.

I just have to ask where has all of his innumerable quirks and idiosyncrasies disappeared to?

They have quite literally vanished into thin air, leaving him completely foible free.

I for one don't buy it for a minute as this degree, of complete transformation is just not natural.

He is also transforming into a totally new and different personality, its all such a big character change that it should have been built up to gradually.

The new Trainee Officer Marlon Pryce finally shows his true colours, for even the Commissioner to see. But true to form he managed, to scam his way out of trouble for now at least.

Finally the big day arrived for J. P. he is a daddy at last and we get to meet his better half Rosey as well as their new daughters.

Another excellent episode!

Warning: Spoilers
'Death in Paradise' seems to have found some form again, after a really dull run towards the end of the 9th series ( the nervy Neville and wooden Madeline episodes).

The re-introduction of Florence has helped, equally continuing her story after the death of Patrice.

Neville is a much more interesting character now they've toned down his little foibles/phobias too.

The Marlon character will take time to settle in, but it's nice to see JP as the senior officer. I saw that Danny John Jules was saying he hasn't been missed since he left in series 7, and he's right!

A good mystery, some actual laughs, this was good fun.

A mind-twisting murder mystery
safenoe19 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode Prisca Bakare guest stars, and it happens she's the real-life wife of Tobi Bakare. I must admit, I was very much scratching my head about the mystery to the mystery, and the resolution was an ah-ha moment for sure. All credit to the writers in crafting a mind-bending mystery worthy of Death in Paradise.

I miss Shyko Amos as Ruby. Is it possible to bring her back pleae? Also it's a shame Aude Legastelois-Bidé didn't last long on Death in Paradise. Why?

Episode 10.3

Warning: Spoilers
This one should be called Manchester by the Sea!

It also features a common plot ploy which seems to occur in each series of Death in Paradise. The victim still being alive after the apparent murder.

DI Parker is called in when a big lottery winner Cherry Jackson is found dead and then her body disappears.

In the frame is her husband. They had both been arguing. Also with them are a couple who used to be good friends with them and then they fell out.

Another enjoyable mystery mixed with Sergeant Hooper trying to get to grips with the new recruit who keeps pulling strokes. I guess that distracted him from impending fatherhood.

There is just a possible hint of romance between Parker and Florence.

Criminal
debfullofjoy17 June 2021
This show changes characters like I change clothes but, mostly, I still like it. What I don't like is the new officer!! This is not a comedy so we don't need Barney Fife. There is no room on this show for an inept con man.

Can anybody say criminal?

Solid, but not great.
harrykivi20 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The 10th season of "Death in Paradise" has been pretty interesting so far. Only the premiere of it I thought was too straight-forward and not all that interesting. The second episode was very good for the most part with a terrific solution. This one is yet another solid "Death in Paradise" episode for me. It's very enjoyable, though far from show's best.

Let's start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values are great as usual. The direction is beautiful and the music fits the scenery wonderfully. The acting is pretty good all around. Ralph Little is becoming more fun in the role, Josephine Jobert delivers another heartwarming performance and I really like the new police officer Marlon played by Tahj Miles. Out of the guest stars ,Faye MCgeever fares the best in my opinion.

. The mystery is clever, there are some compelling twists here and there. The quirky humor felt very welcome, there is even some character building moments regarding Neville and Florence. The solution (Danielle killed her friend) was neat indeed.

But...

. It took quite a while for the mystery to get going. There were not enough suspects and motives to being with, causing the beginning of the narrative not being very intriguing, and some aspects of the story were a bit too predictable for me.

Overall, solid, but not great.

7/10 HK.

Heartwarming episode

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this episode. It was wonderful to see Rosie.

I'm amazed how I eventually love all the characters, even when they change up. I love Catherine and Commissioner Patterson, I hope they never leave. I truly miss Ruby, but happy to see Caselle back. How they dealt with the two year anniversary death of Patrice brought tears to my eyes.

Great job everyone!

It's really not how it looks
sajamor22 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The best murder stories for me are the ones where the killer's not the villain. There are many real life situations where people have snapped under the most intolerable behaviour and stress caused by it. In a fictional context, it makes stories and characters so much more multilayered, interesting and relatable.

It's also impressive how much depth was given to the very well acted guest characters around three subplots. Marlon was surprisingly likeable despite and to an extent because of his very casual attitude to policing. However, one reason I've gone for a rating of 7, not 8 is because no workplace would have kept him on and especially not with his sticky fingered previous.

Neville was quite a lot better, too, although the nerdy pencil collection thing was a sad sign that some of Mr Pathetic remains. However, I'm not a fan of bringing old characters back and Florence's return shows why for me it generally doesn't work.

It's as if she's come back after two months rather than two years. Returning to Saint Marie doesn't seem so much to be bringing back old memories as to be part of a grieving process in its early stages. It looks either like lack of imagination on the writers' part or lack of willingness to live again on hers.

I would rather JP's twins had arrived next week to provide the guest characters more substance still. I could also have done without the clichéd hospital dash and another main plot repetition.

Somebody faking their death and then meeting it for real has been done in two previous episodes and more convincingly, too. Surely an arm with its pulse cut off would be blue and at the point of needing to get cut off altogether. And how lucky for Cherry that Danielle at no point saw her return to the house. Equally fortunate was nobody in what always looks a crowded town seeing her reach the harbour.

Nevertheless, the twist was superb in making the "victim" actually no such thing. Without saying death was a fit punishment, such a cruel, vindictive plan as Cherry's shouldn't have paid off for her. And wouldn't a double betrayal by our supposed best friend drive most of us over the reason edge somehow?

Fantasy Island
wjspears5 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show and mystery were okay. DI Neville Parker (Raif Little) is becoming a somewhat less annoying. And DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) is flowing smoothly back into the team she left behind.

What I want to comment on about this episode is the new recruit, Trainee Officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles). He does a good job playing a character who has a criminal record and is in a probationary position--shifty and sneaky.

I know that we have been informed that Saint Marie is not a real Caribbean island.

That said, when Trainee Officer Pryce steals $80 from his own police department in his first week--the fact that he is not only not going to jail, but still has his job--this isn't just an imaginary island. This is Fantasy Island!!

I look forward to Trainee Officer Pryce's rehabilitation and future usefulness to the Saint Marie police force.

disappointing
runtexas21 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
We have been fans of this series since it started. The quirky British inspectors, supported by an excellent island police force were always a big part of the success of this series. However, the latest season is pushing too much. The antics of the current British inspector have become too much and are quite tiresome. The newest member of the police force, a con artist with a rap sheet a mile long is also too much. Commissioner Patterson gave Ruby (his niece) a hard time for one indiscretion as a teenager, but turns a blind eye to the newest member's criminal past and even gives him a pass after pocketing money intended for the repair of the police motorcycle. This episode was disappointing in how the murder was solved, but more important, this show is rapidly going downhill.

Poor Casting and Characters
gwwester-1461624 May 2021
I use to love this show, but recent casting and characterization has been awful. Ruby was a disaster as a police officer. D. I. Parker's idiosyncrasies are equally ridiculous. Finally Training Officer Pryce belongs in jail. Every year, this show becomes more and more bizarre. Such a shame.
