- Before April 2020
Desi drive a truck down the street and catches up to a truck, and Russ is hanging from another garbage track by the claw. Mac is in the backseat of the truck and tries to work out how to open the clamp, and admires the mechanics. Riley takes the wheel, and Mac and Desi crawl into the truck bed and then jump onto the garbage truck. Passenger in the garbage truck opens fire and Desi shoots back, while Mac cuts the hydraulic line.
While Desi pulls Russ free, Riley keeps the truck even. As they approach a barricade, the trio jump back onto the truck just in time as the garbage truck just makes it past the barricade. Russ worries that how he smells will ruin his friend that is flying into meet him, Sofia Walker. Mac figures 2020 will be awesome.
April 2020, Four Weeks Into Quarantine
At Mac's house, Wilt arrives with supplies and insists that it can't be touched for 72 hours. As Wilt wipes down toilet paper, Mac practices on the guitar and discusses alternatives to tissue paper. Riley hacks into her laptop, and hopes the lockdown will be lifted soon.
Will notices a mess in the ink and calls a house meeting. He complains that Mac didn't do the dishes, and Mac says that he forgot.
In Malibu, Russ is playing drums with his "friend", Sofia. She sings along with him and afterward, they kiss. Sofia discovers the governor has extended the stay-at-home order for two more weeks, and Russ and Sofia agree that Sofia should stay at Russ' place a bit longer.
Desi is stuck at her parents' house and Skypes with Matty, and the trio. Mac asks if there's any mission, and Matty insists that she isn't sending them out until they know it's safe. Mac takes the tablet and goes into the next room to talk to Desi privately, and Desi says that she got his note apologizing for everything that happened between them when they were fighting Codex. When Mac wonders if things are okay between them, Desi points out that they can't get together. She's at home taking care of her parents while her brother is at the hospital. She cuts off when her parents try to escape the house.
Riley tells wilt that she's moving out, and Wilt figures that it's because she didn't want to see Mac and Desi together. Wilt points out that they're not together because of the quarantine, and once he's alone Wilt Riley discovers that ten minutes ago, Lenny ordered ten pounds of calls his parents to see how his mother is doing. He goes to a telescope on the back and looks through it, and sees a couple in the window of a house down the hill, fighting with each other. The older man attacks a woman with a poker.
Wilt tells Mac and Riley what he saw, showing them a photo of the fight. Mac says that the man is Lenny Steckler, a grumpy neighbor, and wonders why Wilt was spying on him. His friend says that he just happened to see it, and points out that Lenny lives with his wife, Mallory. Wilt points out that all of the house's curtains are closed, and Riley determines that the Krengels don't have any smart devices.
Riley discovers that Lenny ordered 10 pounds of lawn lime, a hacksaw, and a shovel. Wilt figures Lenny plans to cut up Mallory, and insists that he knows what he saw. Riley points out that they have nothing else to do, and Wilt works out a plan for Riley to fake an accident in front of the delivery truck. Mac will sneak into the house, find Mallory's body, and announce that he found the body.
The next morning, the trio go to the Steckler house and Riley fakes her accident while Mac breaks into the house. Wilt takes over as the delivery men, and Lenny recognizes Wilt as Mac's friend, and as Mac as the person who keeps knocking out the power in the area. Mallory is there, and tells Wilt that Lenny tried to fix the TV but got frustrated and busted it with a poker. Wilt calls Mac and Riley and tell them that Mallory is alive.
Sofia is teleconferencing while Russ practices with a sword. He accidentally cuts the network cable, and tries to fix it. Sofia grabs the sword and jokingly comes at Russ, and she bumps into a painting and knocks it off the wall. Sofia points out that Russ doesn't seem to spend any time in the house and wonders what he does for a living. Russ merely says that he travels a lot but he's there for her, and they kiss.
That night, Wilt continues "spying" on the Stengels, insisting that something is going on. Mac asks if he's all right, and Wilt tells his friend that his mother apparently has COVID and he's trying to keep his mind off of it. He points out that Mac hasn't acted like his friend in a long time and walks off.
Mac goes to the kitchen and works at the sink. Riley comes over to help him out, and Mac breaks a glass. he tells Riley that Wilt's mother is sick, and Riley admits that she knew. Mac explains that Wilt's parents practically raised him after his father left. He complains about the virus, and Riley tells him that he has to forgive himself for not being his best self. Riley then says that she would have been lonely if she moved out before the quarantine, and Mac says that he's also glad she didn't move out before. Mac tells Riley that he's going for a jog and leaves.
As Mac jogs down the hall, he hears people cheering and sees a woman go into a house. He hears Mallory screaming and runs to the Stengel house, and knocks at the door. There's no answer, and Mac runs around the back and comes in via the back door. He finds Lenny and Mallory tied to chairs, and a man comes up behind Mac and knocks him out with a frying pan.
The next morning, Mac wakes up tied to a chair. His mask ifs off, and the man demands to know why Mac is there. Mac says that he was just on a jog and heard a scream. Lenny says that they don't know Mac, and the man gets a phone call and steps into the kitchen. Mac starts to work on the zip ties holding him, and Lenny tells him that they can't make trouble. As Mac frees himself, the Stengels explain that the man's partner is holding their son James, and if they make trouble then his partner will kill James.
The man, Shane Steckler, comes back and Mac sits back on the chair and pretends to be tied up. Steckler then goes back to the kitchen, satisfied.
Wilt tries to call Mac and gets his voice mail, and figures something is up. Riley checks the CCTVs in the neighborhood and all she sees is when Mac is jogging.
Sofia finds an egg whisk that Russ left him, and goes to look for him. She enters the basement and finds a secret room. Going in, Sofia looks around and finds photos on the wall of Incan sites. Russ comes in and asks what she's doing, but he refuses to explain and tells her to get out. Sofia refuses to leave and asks Russ what he does, and points out that he's good at not saying anything about himself. He points out that they never intended to be together for more than two days at a time, and makes her flight arrangement back to her home in England. Sofia says that she'll make her own arrangements and walks out.
Mac asks the Stengels if anyone would have a problem with James. Mallory says that James runs a professional cleaning business, and Lenny figures that if they just give Steckler what he wants, they'll let James and them go. Mac tells them that Steckler ordered the burial supplies, and plans to kill them and James.
Mallory says that the man's partner calls at the top of the hour to call in. If they overpower him after the phone call, they'll have 20 minute to find and rescue James.
Checking the CCTV, Riley discovers that Mac went back to the Krengels. Wilt has her check the video record of the CCTV, and they see Steckler break into the Krengels' house. Riley confirms that Steckler is a bouncer at the Crawl Club, a front for a motorcycle gang.
Mac looks around the house and sees a lot of the Krengels' mementos. Lenny talks about how Lenny came back from Vietnam in '73, and they knew Mac's grandparents. Wilt and Riley run past the back window, and Mac repairs the phone line Steckler ripped and makes a call to Wilt's phone. He sends more code to Wilt, spelling out in Morse code "Wait".
Steckler gets his call. Once he hangs up, Mac jumps him and they fight. Wilt and Riley run in as Mac manages to knock Steckler out, and Mac apologizes for being a jerk to Wilt. Mac then has Riley check the last call, and Wilt calls Matty and has her send a tac team.
Riley confirms that the call came in at on a burner phone, and GPS places the call as coming from a mall. Mac works out that the gang is using James' business as a disguise to ransack empty malls... and then they're going to kill James.
As the trio drive to the mall, they call Matty and Russ. She finds CCTV footage of James being robbed, and Russ confirms that there have been theft of high-value storefront. They only have 30 minutes to rendezvous with Desi at the mall. Russ says that he can be with the team in an hour, and Matty points out that it'll all be over by then. She realizes that he screwed things up with Sofia and tells him to patch things up or he'll be stuck alone in his house.
Desi arrives at the mall and meets the trio there. She and Mac awkwardly bump feet, and Riley spots 12 suited cleaners through the mall. Desi figures they knock out all of them, legitimate and otherwise, and ask questions later.
Desi and Mac take out the apparent spotter, and Riley takes photos of him and the others, runs facial ID, and confirms they're cleaner. The agents split up to cover more ground, and Desi sights the lookout in an arcade. She takes out her frustrations with dealing with her parents on the lookout, and knocks him out with a whack-a-mole hammer. The lookout tells her where the other robbers are.
Mac finds Sofia packing and tells her that he doesn't want her to go. He explains what the photos are, and talks about how he's been looking for missing Inca treasure to pull his family out of poverty. Russ says that the quest for wealth became an obsession to him, then admits that he's not good at scaring skeletons in his closet. He tells Sofia that he'd like to try... with hr.
The agents sneak up on the jewelry store and see the robbers taking the store's contents. They spot James' son in the back, and only have 10 minutes until the next call. Mac has Wilt help him make an "invisibility cloak".
Russ and Sofia end up in bed, and she tells him that he's a good man. They kiss and then Sofia goes down to the room and takes photos of Russ' photos.
Mac and Wilt grab a camera, and Mac records an image of a blank wall. Riley will then project it onto a sheet that Mac and Desi will wear, rendering them essentially impossible.
Russ discovers that Sofia is gone and calls her name.
Mac and Desi get close to the front of the store. The robber working there hesitates but doesn't see them. Once they're close enough, Mac and Desi drop the sheet and get to James. The agents assure James that his parents are safe, and Mac gives him the personal information the couple gave him. They have Mac head for the entrance pushing a cart. When the robbers wonder what James is doing, Desi knocks them out and they run.
When he can't find Sofia, Mac goes to the drums and starts playing.
Mac and the others run through the mall with James. They get into a demo car, Riley hacks the ignition, and Desi drives it through the mall as two of the robbers find motorcycles and drive after them. Desi drives through the entrance door just as the Phoenix tax team arrives and arrests the robbers. Matty is transmitting via a screen on a drone, and tells the robbers that they're under arrest. She congratulates the agent, and says that they're going back on quarantine.
The Krengels greet their son, and Mac goes over to Desi and says it's a goodbye for a while. Desi admits that she was avoiding Mc, and Mac says that he's learned that good things are worth waiting for and tells Desi to take as much time as she needs to figure things out. They bump feet and chuckle.
Wilt asks Riley is she talked to Mac about her feelings. She says that she didn't but she's glad because she's not going to get in the way of Mac and Desi.
Mac and the others arrive home, and Riley grabs the toilet paper. Mac apologizes to Wilt for being a bad friend, and says that he won't go through whatever is happening to his mother alone. Wilt cheerfully accepts his apology and tells Mac to clean up the kitchen. Mac says that he and Riley had a moment, but then dismisses it as nothing.
As Mac cleans up the kitchen, he finds a piece of the broken glass. He gets an idea for a soda bottle ventilator he's making and goes to work on it.
Later, Mac has beers with his friends on the back deck. There's cheering down below, and they join in. The Krengels are there and they wave to the couple.
