GREAT episode

This touches on everything - the food of course, the history, Mafia, economics, immigration. My family is from northern Italy and even looked down on Sicilians, but this episode was very enlightening to me. Loved the part where he visited an island twice as far from Italy as it was to Tunisia. You may not agree with his stance on immigration (and, yes, he glossed over the possibility of immigrants overwhelming communities), but you could hardly have an honest episode about an island in the Mediterranean and skip the subject

This episode fell short

While I loved watching all the other episodes so far, I feel so much was missed in the Sicily region.

They missed so many foods and desserts that Sicily is known for as well as the culture such as the Greek influence of Agrigento, the Valley of Temples to the beautiful beaches of Mondello to San Vito.

Let's not forget the beautiful scenic towns of Taormina and Cefalu.

What about the traditional decorated mule pulled carts and intricate marionette puppetry operas.

What happened to the Cannoli and beautifully decorated marzipan fruits to prickly pears for desserts to mention just a few.

Let's not forget the popular mains such as pasta with clams. Sea urchin to baby octopus and beautiful fish dishes like Pesce Spada just to name a few.

I really hope the return to do another episode and do more research to uncover the beautiful landscapes and cover more of the historical culture of this region that Sicily and the people from this area deserve.

Not enough Sicily

I loved the other episodes but this episode really short changed Sicily. They spent roughly a third of it talking about African migrants and even showing them cooking African dishes. If they want to write a show about African cooking then they should do that. The episode about Tuscany exclusively showcased Tuscan food and culture. This episode talked a lot about migrants and their lives being lost at sea and the politics of how the Italian government is managing the migrant influx. As a Sicilian I had really looked forward to seeing some familiar Sicilian dishes and how they differ from Italian dishes. This episode was a real disappointment and a wasted opportunity.

Clean CNN propaganda. What a shame. So much could have been said about the region and it's rich cuisine. But no. Americans need to push the agenda ...

This is supposed to be a cooking show not a political bandstand! These nice people create meals for you to enjoy not subject them to their political stance or lack there of!

it's HIS culinary experience

This is not a travel show. You should not be expecting all the sites and info as if it were. Stanley is a foodie. In each episode he's trying to capture the flavor of the region as HE experiences it. It's one person's culinary journey. I find it all very lovely and entertaining.

What we saw of the landscape was gorgeous,

But too little of it.

This series is supposed to be about the distinctive regional foods of Italy, right? Well, for as far back as I can remember Sicily's defining dish is Pasta con le Sarde (pasta with sardines). It's possible I blinked and missed it, but I have no recollection of watching that meal being prepared or eaten. And other than a passing mention of spices from Egypt, where was the elaboration of the deep influence of Mideast cooking on the Sicilian palate?

My biggest disappointment in the series.
