Why I Love Succession
Oktay_Tuna25 October 2021
This episode is like a summary of Succession on its own. Lots of strategy, schemes, secrets, everyone having different plans and speaking in a "coded" way so there is no proof they actually said that thing, and how long build-ups can change with subtle moves. Brilliant writing and superb acting(the only flaw I can find is that the first 15 minutes or so had some pacing issues compared to the rest).

Firing On All Cylinders

Warning: Spoilers
This is the best show on television, and already in its second episode, we're seeing the show continue to level up.

The pacing and character observation was just excellent. The only complaint I can level at the previous two (but mainly the first) seasons is that the pacing was a bit slow at times, but this season is not messing around. There's always something happening, and the clock is ticking, which brings so much great stuff out of the characters. I mean, the whole Greg finding a lawyer situation was something I hadn't even thought of, but it's a brilliant representation of Greg's indecision. And the long back-and-forth in a childhood bedroom between the four siblings... just fantastic stuff.

I'm just so happy to see that this show hasn't lost a beat, and I'm noticing a trend with shows that had shooting delayed because of COVID - tighter writing. The current season of What We Do in the Shadows is the same way. After a bit of a dry spell in television late last year and early this year, it's great to see the best shows on TV returning even stronger than ever. I cannot wait to see what the remaining 7 episodes have in store for the Roys.

I always love the writing
UniqueParticle25 October 2021
Kendall wants the family to go against their dad even receives some surprises, Jeremy Strong is awesome! I love the entire family dynamic they all flow exceptionally especially with the clever remarks and clashes. Brian Cox has to be in his 70's he still is riveting, he tends to play villain type characters really well! No matter how the show plays out it's always entertaining.

A whirlybird of a stage play

Warning: Spoilers
Great episode that definitely reads as Succession trying to make a bottle episode in their own fashion and it was awesome. My only gripe is maybe Kendall could have spent less time BSing his siblings about detoxifying the company and doing things for the good of the planet as in a fraction of the time Shiv gets Roman closer to joining Team Kendall than he ever does, but that's a feature of his character and his incompetence so I'll take it. And confused as to where Shiv stands and why she's faultering, overall would love to hear more of these characters true intentions and feelings more often but this is the world they live in and I'll still eat up every minute of it. Can't wait for more more more!

Writers kept it going

Warning: Spoilers
With the conviction Kendall did try his best but as an audience i cound not see any material in his forthcoming speech before watching the episode.

I got the spoiler way before but man writers kept us glued to the screen. We knew a mole in siblings meeting could jeopardize the Kendall's entire plan writers gave us the entire basket of moles.

No need to mention the acting, they all need emmy right away.

The best just got better
indieBrit27 October 2021
Wow! I was a fan of the series and S3 Episode1 was tremendous, starting the new season with a bang. I was expecting episode 2 to be disappointing after the fireworks in episode 1 but I think this episode was the best of the whole 3 seasons so far. The script, the acting, the music - everything just seems to have gone up a level. The character flaws are all coming into focus rather than being annoying, and each character is becoming well-rounded, familiar and likeable in their own way. This show has become very polished in every department and I just hope they can keep this momentum up. What a pleasure to have something to look forward to for a change and to see Brian Cox take over Sean Connery's mantle as one of Scotland's favourite leading men!

The Shakes
Hitchcoc16 September 2022
Kendall holds forth at his ex's home. He finagles a way to get Shiv, Connor, and Roman to come there. His intent to get them to be allies. What he promises is a great deal of uncertainty and the others are too cowardly to join him. Part of the problem is that Kendall is shaky and uses some very strange, imprecise dialogue. Roman, of course, immerses himself in sarcasm. They, of course, know, deep inside, that the old man couldn't care less about their happiness. Sadly, they show their interest in the short term because they are big spoiled babies. Greg is an interesting character. He is the source of the incriminating papers but is scared to death. He is told he needs an attorney, but hasn't a clue who to trust. When he is done he he has three of them and hasn't a clue what they can do for him.

[8.2] Two shows in two separate rooms
cjonesas18 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2: Another fine episode with good acting, but still having that artificial vibe, flow and atmosphere.

Everything is too neat, secure and tidy for them. Listen to the silence in the rooms (besides them talking/arguing/shouting), feel the secureness of those walls, wrapped dovely around them and you'll understand what I mean.

Nobody disturbs them in the episode's runtime. Everything's perfect for them to set up their stage and mesmerize us the viewers!

Round in circles

Greetings from Lithuania.

Just when Succession went further away from "who's Gina take the crown" theme a bit, it return to it as quick as that. First episode was great in season 3 after great ending of season 2. But second episode of season 3 wasn't great in my opinion. It's more or less same stuff again, going round and round about who will be a king. And dialogs starting to be repetitive and honestly boring. It's not that it's bad, it isn't by any means, it's just that it's repetitive.

Overall, there are still plenty of episodes left in season 3 and 4 and do hope they will pick up. So far it's started to get repetitive.

Stuck in the same place
Lou-Series9 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Can't they just make up their god damn mind and agree once for all? Or are they gonna make this Kendall vs dad the theme of the whole show for for as long as it lasts? Because that's boring as f---.

This episode showed the immense chemistry this cast has and shines light on the realisms of this situation. So enthralled with these characters and this story, I cant wait to see how this unfolds. #teamkendall.

Slightly better than the premiere, but still far too slow.
bayleykedar22 November 2021
This show has been a constant build-up of drama/tension since the beginning of its second season, yet we still lack any form of true resolution to Succession's overarching conflicts.

This episode was marginally better due to its stellar writing (one of the only aspects of this show that truly never dips in quality!) particularly in the scenes featuring the Roy children. It is rare that we see them within a room together without the presence of Logan, which was particularly interesting, perhaps even revelatory, to watch.

We gain insight into where their heads are currently at, their drives + motivations, and a LOT of repressed anger towards each other. Succession consistently pushes the boundaries when it comes to the development of its central characters, peeling them back each layer at a time to reveal who they truly are.

Kendall, in particular, showed a side to himself that frighteningly mirrors another character within the show, and it is testament to the show's writing/Strong's performances that the avid viewer should probably have seen this twist coming. It has been embedded within Kendall and the Roy DNA since the dawn of the company, and it may just be the edge that he requires to win this battle against his father.

Another good episode, one that largely focuses on the Roy children, but massively below the mark I expected going into this season.
