Brilliant and courageous. I'm glad the show is taking on the racism that's been part and parcel of policing since the end of the Civil War.

Atwater is losing it.

Risky, polarizing with a point

Viewers on the right hate what they view as anti-police propaganda generated from woke Hollywood tailored for viewers on the left who feel this episode illustrates a good representation of ongoing race-based murders at the hands of law enforcement. In a country where the Congress is too bought off and too cowardly to step up and enact or enforce any hint of racial justice reform, or even admit that systemic racial injustice exists. That's why the poets, songwriters, filmmakers and TV shows are going to make more and more of this stuff until the reality of what's happening every day is coming at you from every direction. This episode quickly gets its ripped-from-the-headlines parody out there (read: shooting of Philando Castile) which is what Dick Wolf does with every production; the guy loves morality tales. Then it moves on to a pretty standard CP action/intrigue joint. But there's no denying the creator wants his audience to form opinions. Atwater character challenges his partner not to run away from facing the subject of color in America. That's the point of the whole episode.
The start was just incredible

Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love how current and relevant this episode was! Topics covered here are topics that other shows are too afraid to talk about, while Chicago P.D. takes risks and talks about what needs to be said. Other reviewers are demonizing this episode for being "too political", without realizing that these are events that occur every single day and need to have awareness spread about them. The whole cast did a phenomenal job portraying this intense story, I have no complaints!
Another tense episode.

Really good episode with very current and real issues. The people giving this episode bad reviews probably need to rewatch this episode a few more times. Let's all just try to be better people. It's really not that hard.
Hats off to everyone involved!!!

I thought I had seen the best episode ever when Atwater took on the blue wall. But this...had me on the edge of my seat. Thanks for letting the fans see behind the lens! That scene was like a well choreographed dance! I can't get enough of watching it! Hats off to the writers and director, Eriq LaSalle.

It handles with so many things if you just are willing to see it. Sure, you see the racial part. But the racial part works both ways. There is no trust in one and the other...
But there is also a more hidden layer about a cop working 30 years and has PTSS which makes him see and do what he does.
And a young guy, who is probably confronted with everything his whole life. Who Also is signed with PTSS and just can't trust a cops. The are the system and the system by default is mistreating him all his life.
And the third layer is the alternative system which is doing exactly the same they think the normal system is doing. Judging by color and bias...(shoot before asking, the other party is always wrong, etc)
All the social ethnic problems of large cities in one episode.

Race baiting, synthetic reality written to appease the mob

Drama is great, but when it is so clearly manufactured to fit a certain narrative, then the curtain falls down and it feels like I'm no longer is watching a story that could happen in real life, but something that was written to exactly fit into some political discussion.
Acting was good, and there was some good action, but this whole spiel on politics looks very weird from outside of the woke bubble.
Good TV will be good TV also in 20 years. This won't.

I used to really enjoy this series....until it got political.

If it continues down this race-baiting road, I probably won't continue to watch this series. The way they tried to equate the police shooting on this episode with what is happening across America today is ludicrous. It's a shame the Hollywood culture is going down this track: political and social wokeness. They will continue to divide and conquer us according to our melanin levels, and the end result will be that nobody wins. Sad.
Anti-police garbage that is factually WRONG!

The "victim" in this episode is the viewer. A complete lack of honesty about Illinois gun laws and the actions of the police officer leads to a vigilante killing by a drug dealer. If this is great television I am going back to Gilligan's Island re-runs.
