Exclusive: NBC is developing Something Wicked, a multi-camera comedy starring June Diane Raphael and written and executive produced by Raphael and Dickinson creator Alena Smith.
Something Wicked is described as a comedy with a Bewitched-type premise and an homage to TV sitcom classics. It examines the condition of modern adult womanhood and how even with witchcraft, balancing everything is impossible.
Smith and Raphael write and executive produce. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
This is the latest high-profile multi-camera comedy project at NBC. The network, which has pivoted toward an all-multi-camera comedy slate over the last year and a half, also has a sitcom pilot headlined by Reba McEntire.
Bewitched, which originally aired on ABC from 1964-72, starred Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha Stevens, a witch who marries an ordinary mortal man, played by Dick York and later Dick Sargent, and vows to lead the life of a typical suburban housewife.

Tyler Perry has wrapped production on the third movie in his four-picture deal with Amazon MGM Studios, a drama led by “P-Valley” and “Mea Culpa” star Shannon Thornton and “Run The World’s” Tosin Morohunfola.
Perry wrote, directed and produced the film, which recently wrapped filming on location in Colorado and at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta under the working title “Joy Ridge.”

When Mavis (Michelle Buteau) discovers her boyfriend of five years has been unfaithful, what stings almost as much as the betrayal is the narrative she imagines surrounding it. “If someone cheats on Halle Berry, they’re like, ‘Oh my God, how that man cheat on Halle Berry?'” she laments. “But if someone cheats on someone like me, a thick girl with problem areas? They’re like, ‘Oh yeah, I get it.'”
And though her best friend, Khalil (Tone Bell), gently pushes back on that “silly-ass narrative,” Mavis isn’t entirely wrong: Plus-sized women, and indeed all those who fall outside the straight-cis-white-skinny box, do tend to go ignored or sidelined or disrespected in love stories. Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest is a welcome and too-rare exception — a comedy that puts Mavis front and center as a worthy heroine, with mostly enjoyable results.

Eliza Skinner had no idea that her Disney+ series Earth to Ned would be permanently taken off the platform until a text on the show’s writer group chat in mid-May shared an article about Disney removing more than 70 films and series from its streaming services that month. Among the disappearing titles was the comedic talk show — which launched in 2020 with Skinner as head writer — centering on an alien welcoming celebrities to his spaceship.
Due to its classification as a streaming variety series, Skinner says the writers and performers weren’t receiving residuals, although the show’s team had heard rumors blaming Disney’s tax bill. But while her loss isn’t a financial one, Earth to Ned can no longer serve as a calling card to help land future gigs for Skinner, who also doesn’t own a physical copy of the show.

Disney is going there, you guys.
As previously teased during the company's quarter one earnings call, the company is purging several titles from its streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu.
The practice has become common in recent months, with HBO Max leading the charge, wiping several projects from existence.
Undoubtedly, fans and creatives are struggling with the concept, but maybe some of the affected shows could show up elsewhere.
"We will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion," Disney's chief financial officer, Christine McCarthy, said during the earnings call.
Westworld, The Nevers, and other HBO fare popped back up on Fast services shortly after the controversial decision.
But for some shows, this could be the death knell that could be the difference whether new fans find them down the line.

Disney did a little (late) spring cleaning of its streaming services this week, removing several properties from Disney+ and Hulu. Among those that will go on May 26 include some high profile recent shows like “Willow,” “Y: The Last Man,” “Dollface,” and “The World According to Jeff Goldblum.” What makes this troubling for many home viewers who may have been fans (or even stans!) of the affected programs is that, in most cases, there are no Blu-ray/DVD options. In the old days you could always hit record on your Vcr to build a personal library, but it’s not so easy to capture material from streaming—and the whole point of streaming is not needing to do that, right?
As per The Verge, Disney’s cost-cutting is due to a reduction in Disney+ subscribers, to the tune of 4 million in 2023. While the company will have to pay a “content impairment charge” of over $1.5 billion,...

Add Disney+ and Hulu to the list of streamers whose complete slate of original shows and films is no longer guaranteed to be there the next time you go looking for it. According to Vulture, the Disney-owned streamers are set to remove some titles from their catalog as soon as next week. The list of titles includes the high-budget "Willow" sequel series, the Danny Devito-led animated series "Little Demon," and the highly-anticipated yet swiftly canceled comic adaptation, "Y: The Last Man," among others.
While this content purge follows in the footsteps of Warner Bros Discovery's much-criticized decision to make select titles disappear from streaming for tax reasons last year, Vulture reports that the Disney+ and Hulu titles are likely set to resurface elsewhere — a guarantee that HBO Max was slow to make when its content started to disappear. Well, this is just depressing. It was reported last week that Disney would start removing content from their streaming services, and the first casualties have been revealed. The dozens of TV shows and specials from Disney+ and Hulu that will be removed on May 26th include Willow, Big Shot, Y: The Last Man, and many more. When Pete Davidson wound up on "Saturday Night Live" he didn't expect to stick around too long, having joined in 2014 at just 20 years old with minimal experience in sketch comedy. According to the standup comedian, when he auditioned, showrunner Lorne Michaels told him, "I don't think you're right for this show, so let's screw this up together." Soon to star in Peacock's "Bupkis," Davidson has, in his own words become "hugely successful while barely showing up to work," referring to his sporadic appearances on "SNL" throughout his eight year run.
That success allowed him to leave the show at the end of its 47th season to explore other opportunities. At the same time, the long-running series was undergoing a major transition, with seven other members of the ensemble departing between the 47th and 48th season. “We’re excited about it. It’s a pretty big event. It’s really like a three-hour movie where all the characters from all the different shows are integrated, seamlessly, I hope, into one big story. They pop in and out as appropriate and it will feel like a three-hour movie starring the stars of your favorite “Law & Order” shows,...

"Saturday Night Live" just announced the cast for its upcoming 48th season, and among the newcomers is the first openly nonbinary member, Molly Kearney. While this is a big moment for the LGBTQ+ community, this is not Kearney's first break in comedy. The comedian and actor, who uses gender-neutral pronouns "they" and "them," also plays Fern Dannely in Amazon's "A League of Their Own" and has been featured in Comedy Central's "Up Next" showcase for up-and-coming comedians and Disney+'s "The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers."
On Sept. 15, Kearney shared their excitement about joining the cast, writing on Instagram: "Meatbrick Moved To New York !!!!"
Kearney is one of four new cast members, including writer and actor Marcello Hernandez; Michael Longfellow, who appeared on NBC's "Bring the Funny"; and Devon Walker, who has written for shows like Freeform's "Everything's Trash" and Netflix's "Big Mouth." Fans of the show...

At the end of the 47th season of "Saturday Night Live" this past spring, the late-night sketch comedy show lost a quartet of comedians who decided to leave the series. Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Pete Davidson all bid farewell to the series in the season finale, but the departures didn't end there. Just a couple weeks ago, leading up to the 48th season premiere of "SNL," it was announced that repertory cast members Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor would also be departing the show after six years, along with featured player Aristotle Athari, who lasted just a single season on the series.
All those cast members moving on from "SNL" left plenty of gaps to fill, even in an ensemble that's still pretty sizeable, but executive producer Lorne Michaels has some new blood who will be joining the cast as the latest round of featured players. Who are they?...

Lose some, add some. “Saturday Night Live” has named four new cast members for its upcoming season 48. Joining “SNL” are Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.
The (extremely) long-running NBC sketch comedy series lost some key players this summer, including Kate McKinnon, Kyle Mooney, Aidy Bryant, and (debatably key) Pete Davidson. They also trimmed Alex Moffat, Melissa Villaseñor, and Aristotle Athari.
Kearney has starred on Amazon’s “A League Of Their Own,” while Hernandez has opened for the likes of Tim Dillon and Gilbert Gottfried and appeared on Telemundo’s “Acceso Total.” Meanwhile, Longfellow appeared on NBC’s “Bring the Funny,” hosted by SNL’s own Keenan Thompson, and Walker has appeared on Comedy Central and has written for “Big Mouth” and Phoebe Robinson’s “Everything’s Trash.”

At first glance, Everything’s Trash and Everything I Know About Love may seem most similar for their titles, the two monikers rife with potential for a “Who’s on First” style conundrum. Both series deal with the perils and pleasures of being young in the big city. Everything’s Trash‘s protagonist Phoebe, a well-known podcaster living in New York City, is at that particular intersection of young adulthood where career momentum hasn’t yet translated into the life she’s hoping for; whereas Everything I Know About Love‘s Maggie has just moved to London with three girlfriends (post-uni) and is trying desperately to get her foot into any professional door she can. Trash’s Phoebe is navigating the specifics of being a Black woman in a field that still mostly belongs to white men; Love‘s Maggie is navigating the sexual politics of young adulthood.

This preview is not trash. The Freeform comedy Everything's Trash wraps up its first season on Sept. 7, and E! News has an exclusive sneak peek at the finale. In the clip, podcaster Phoebe (Phoebe Robinson) apologizes to Jax (June Diane Raphael), her formidable boss, for her unhinged behavior—which may or may not have included some minor theft. "Look, we both know today was cray," Phoebe starts. "I switched birth control pills—made me loops. And one of the side effects is cussing people out and stealing coffee machines." "Which," she continues, "Could be kinda cool for seas' three of the podcast. Right? Unhinged...

“Everything’s Trash” at Freeform has cast Anand Desai-Barochia in a guest star role, Variety has learned exclusively.
The series is based on Phoebe Robinson’s book “Everything’s Trash, But It’s Okay.” Robinson stars in the series as Phoebe, described as a “30-something outspoken podcast star making her professional mark while living a broke and delightfully messy life in Brooklyn. When her ‘perfect’ older brother launches a political campaign, she’s forced to start her adulting journ-journ.”
Desai-Barochia will play Gael, the CEO of Limelight Media, which is a major podcast venture. The official character description says he is “charismatic and globetrotting. He is a fan of Phoebe and Malika’s work and wants to be in business with them. Gael and Phoebe spark to each other almost immediately…their chemistry is natural and undeniable.”
Desai-Barochia is best known for playing Janzo on The CW fantasy adventure series “The Outpost” for four seasons.

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
FX's turn at the Television Critics Association paved the way for some announcements about new and returning series.
We already reported on the casting of Elisabeth Moss on The Veil.
We also learned that American Horror Story Season 11 will receive its premiere in fall 2022.
There had been some questions about whether the series would return this year, given the lack of updates.
However, we should expect more concrete details about the big season in the coming weeks, including casting details and a confirmed premiere date.
The last season featured two stories -- Red Tide and Death Valley.
The former won praise from longtime fans, but the latter struggled to find its footing.
Spinoff American Horror Stories currently airs Thursdays on FX on Hulu.
As someone critical of the first season, the second is a breath of fresh air.

Freeform will continue to find Good Trouble.
The Disney-backed basic cable network used its platform at the virtual Television Critics Association’s summer press tour to announce a fifth-season renewal for its second-longest-running scripted original.
The series, a spinoff of The Fosters, ranks as one of the year’s top 10 ad-supported cable dramas among women 18-34. From exec producers Joanna Johnson, Christine Sacani, Greg Gugliotta, Jennifer Lopez, Benny Medina, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Cierra Ramirez, the drama this year weathered the departure of leading lady Maia Mitchell and co-star Beau Mirchoff.
“Freeform is evolving with young adults because we are not about an age — Freeform is an attitude,” network president Tara Duncan said in her opening TCA remarks Tuesday. “Series like Good Trouble — which I am happy to announce today is being picked up for its fifth season — and our flagship series Grown-ish and more recently Cruel Summer,...

A bad boss is heading the way of podcaster Phoebe (Phoebe Robinson) on Freeform’s new comedy “Everything’s Trash.”
TheWrap can exclusively reveal that June Diane Raphael is playing Jax, who showrunner and executive producer Jonathan Groff says is a “very funny and formidable, nightmare boss.”
“Jax is a corporate faux-feminist ally who always manages to make it about her,” per her character description. “She is the boss at Parakeet Media which runs Phoebe’s podcast. She claims she has nothing but respect for Phoebe and Malika and the podcast they do but doesn’t follow up with giving them what they deserve. You need to watch your back with Jax … and your front, and probably your sides as well.”
Jax will be the latest hurdle for Phoebe as she works at adulting, a theme of the series. She’s already faced a host of problems in the show’s first few episodes,...

Midway through the first season of Uncoupled, Michael (Neil Patrick Harris) explodes with frustration after yet another promising hookup turns disastrous. “I’m not supposed to be here,” he yells at his perplexed date. “I’m not supposed to know about Botoxed buttholes, and PrEP, and no condoms. I am supposed to be sitting on my couch, watching TV while my boyfriend is chewing way too loud beside me. That is the world I want.”
In part, Michael’s reaction stems from personal heartache, having recently been dumped by his partner of 17 years. But he’s equally struggling with re-entering a scene he simply doesn’t get anymore — one in which even meeting guys at clubs, like he and Colin (Tuc Watkins) once did, involves connecting with them first on Grindr. Uncoupled, from creators Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman, is aimed squarely at the Michaels of the world.

Phoebe Robinson, the stand-up comedian who with Jessica Williams co-hosted the podcast-turned-hbo series “2 Dope Queens,” is ready to bring her audio skills back to the screen.
Robinson is the creator and star of the upcoming Freeform comedy “Everything’s Trash,” which is adapted from her 2018 essay collection “Everything’s Trash, but It’s Okay.” She and showrunner Jonathan Groff leaned into the humor of “Sooo Many White Guys,” her solo spinoff of “2 Dope Queens,” while developing “Everything’s Trash,” in which Robinson plays a fictionalized version of herself that she affectionately refers to as TV Phoebe.
Groff “had listened to some episodes of ‘Sooo Many White Guys’ and really liked the rapport that I had with my producer, Joanna [Solotaroff],” Robinson says. “We wanted to replicate that, because we felt that TV Phoebe’s superpower, and my superpower, is being an empath — highlighting what’s special about someone and then zeroing in on that.

Phoebe Robinson once dreamed of having her own scripted half-hour comedy series. That dream is now a reality. Based on her 2018 book of the same name, "Everything's Trash" follows the "2 Dope Queens" podcast cohost as a 30-something fictionalized version of herself named Phoebe Hill as she navigates her beautifully messy life. However, when her older brother, Jayden (Jordan Carlos), decides to launch his political career, Phoebe is forced to grow up with some support from her family and friends.
"It feels so exciting," Robinson, 37, tells Popsugar of fulfilling her years-long sitcom goal. "I keep pinching myself, because I'm just like, 'It's happening. It's all happening.' I'm so pumped, and this is just the show and the story that I wanted to tell. As someone who used to watch TV all the time as a kid up until now, I'm just happy that I get to have a show that's part of this TV landscape.

‘Everything’s Trash’ Helmers Phoebe Robinson and Jonathan Groff Extend Overall Deal at ABC Signature
“Everything’s Trash” creator, star and executive producer Phoebe Robinson and showrunner and executive producer Jonathan Groff have both extended their overall deal with ABC Signature. “Everything’s Trash,” their comedy series based on Robinson’s essay collection “Everything’s Trash, but It’s Okay,” premieres on Freeform on July 13 and streams on Hulu the next day.
Robinson, via her Tiny Productions banner, will continue to develop and produce projects across all Disney platforms for the studio. She is best known for, with Jessica Williams, having co-hosted the podcast “2 Dope Queens,” which was later adapted into an HBO series.
“I’m so happy to continue my relaysh with ABC Signature, three years and counting, which is longer than some marriages. Hey-o!” said Robinson. “In all seriousness, having their support in launching my new show, ‘Everything’s Trash,’ has meant the world to me, and I cannot wait to birth other TV babies with the studio as my doula.
Robinson, via her Tiny Productions banner, will continue to develop and produce projects across all Disney platforms for the studio. She is best known for, with Jessica Williams, having co-hosted the podcast “2 Dope Queens,” which was later adapted into an HBO series.

Everything’s Trash duo Phoebe Robinson and Jonathan Groff are staying in business with The Walt Disney Company.
The pair, whose new comedy launches on Freeform today, July 13, have extended their overall deals with ABC Signature.
Robinson, who stars in, writes and exec produces the half-hour comedy adaptation of her own book, previously struck an overall deal with the company, then known as ABC Studios, in 2019.
The 2 Dope Queens co-creator will continue to develop and produce projects across all Disney platforms for the studio. In addition to Everything’s Trash, which she produces via her Tiny Reparations Productions banner, last year she was developing multi-camera sitcom Chopped & Screwed, set in a barbershop and beauty salon, for ABC with The Amber Ruffin Show writer Dewayne Perkins.
The studio has also extended its deal with writer/executive producer Jonathan Groff, who has been with the studio since 2009, when he was an exec producer on Black-ish.

Phoebe Robinson was willing to go the distance for her art in the making of new comedy series “Everything’s Trash,” premiering Wednesday night on Freeform, and that included getting into a very specific headspace to interact properly with a very, very, very large owl.
“You just be very calm. That’s the thing — they were like, ‘Just be very calm because animals can sense anxiety and all those like angsty emotions, so just be chill,'” Robinson told TheWrap of how she prepped to interact with the wide-eyed winged creature for an upcoming episode (no spoilers on how the character of Phoebe lands in a situation involving the owl).
“The handler was great. … I was like, ‘Oh, this is pretty cool.’ And I started talking to it and I was like, ‘You know, I think I might want to hold an eagle next,’ and everyone’s like, ‘Calm down, bitch.

It’s mid-July, which means most of the summer shows on broadcast and cable networks are in the middle of their seasons. Streamers are taking it relatively easy too, which means a relatively light menu of premieres for July 13-19 — although they include a series adaptation of the Resident Evil franchise, baseball’s annual Midsummer Classic and Nathan Fielder’s return to TV.
Below is The Hollywood Reporter‘s rundown of premieres, returns and specials over the next seven days. It would be next to impossible to watch everything, but let THR point the way to worthy options for the coming week. All times are Et/Pt unless noted.

Everything’s Trash is, first and foremost, an excellent showcase for the towering charm of executive producer and star Phoebe Robinson. As Phoebe Hill, a broke 30something podcaster trying halfheartedly to get her act together in Brooklyn, she’s basically impossible not to like, even though the entire series revolves around her being (as she puts it) “hella messy.”
Case in point: In the premiere, Phoebe nearly derails her brother Jayden’s political campaign launch when she’s caught sleeping with a member of his rival’s team, and then adds to the mini-scandal with a very public wardrobe malfunction. Yet the drama of it all only makes Phoebe seem more lovable — simultaneously relatable and aspirational. A lot of us, after all, have hooked up with people we maybe shouldn’t have; most of us only wish we could bounce back from it with Phoebe’s confidence,...

On “Everything’s Trash,” the insecure but brash podcaster Phoebe (Phoebe Robinson) has been invited to speak at a college lecture series; the professor who brought her describes her as “a digital ouroboros” and “a culture-maker extraordinaire.” Understandably, she’s a bit nervous, especially when asked by another, obviously snobbish teacher present what her project is, what she’s trying to say. Phoebe responds this way: “You, professor, are trash. So is that lady, and that dude, and these little meatballs on sticks.” She waves an hors d’oeuvre for emphasis. “All pure hot, and cold, garbage. Actually, everything’s trash.”
Phoebe goes on to say that “diving into the muck” allows us a chance of “surviving the dumpster fire that is our world” — that acknowledging that everything is bad allows us, perhaps, to work toward making it better. It’s a reasonable project, one that could potentially be carried over...
