Gregory Itzin: Charles Logan
Quotes
-
President Allison Taylor : [Talking privately] it's over... I've decided not to go through with the peace deal
Charles Logan : Because of Bauer?
President Allison Taylor : Because of the evidence implicating the Russians, evidence I help cover up is "potentially" too lethal
Charles Logan : I agree: doesn't sound like much of a choice
President Allison Taylor : I'm surprised, I expected more of a fight from you
Charles Logan : I'm nothing if not pragmatic, although I am disappointed
President Allison Taylor : I'm afraid you'll have to find some other way to "repair" your legacy
Charles Logan : My own personal disappointment aside, it's a loss for the world
President Allison Taylor : Yes it is. Ethan's drafting my statement. I need to call Dalia Hassan: hope she'll forgive me for keeping "the truth" from her
Charles Logan : Before you do, there's one thing you want to consider: a way to preserve the peace deal
President Allison Taylor : The peace deal is over, you said so yourself
Charles Logan : I said it was "over" if the evidence comes out. Obviously you can't grant Dana Walsh immunity, the evidence would then become public record. You need to "control" the evidence by keeping Walsh "off the grid"
President Allison Taylor : [Surprised] "off the grid?"
Charles Logan : Classify her as an enemy combatant and in incarcerate her in a private facility: there is a private security firm that I can recommend: their "effective and discreet", I have them standing by
President Allison Taylor : [Sarcastically] sounds like you've been giving this a lot of thought?
Charles Logan : [Sits down] this evidence is hanging over your head: you need to deal with it
President Allison Taylor : We can't keep Walsh locked up indefinitely
Charles Logan : You wouldn't have to. Ms. Walsh may not give up the information "willingly" but she will give it up and once we have it... it won't matter what she "claims"
President Allison Taylor : [Stands up] you're talking about using physical coercion
Charles Logan : I know how deeply offends this you: public and private sensibilities. It is... repugnant even immoral but is morality relative considering what's at stake here
President Allison Taylor : You are still talking about torture
Charles Logan : I'm talking about the security of this nation and that can only happen if you "acquire" and "control" the evidence. Believe me, I don't make these "suggestions" lightly, I 'appreciate" the "implications." I'm trying to be as open and candid with you as I've been with anyone and the truth is I regret many of my own actions when I was President but I've also had the time to distance to see "past them" to a place of "deep and clear" understanding
President Allison Taylor : What do you understand?
Charles Logan : Yielding the kind of power that I once had you have now can change the world but that often requires making impossible choices that challenge our most sacred ideals. If you're not willing to do that, you should take Ethan's advice, and pull out now
-
Charles Logan : [Surprised to see him] I heard about your resignation, I'm glad you're putting your health first: we all just want you to get well
Ethan Kanin : I'm leaving because you... because of what you started here: you've "deliberately "played" this out to maneuver the President into a corner
Charles Logan : [Shrugs] I brought the Russians back to the table
Ethan Kanin : But you didn't tell her how you were doing it
Charles Logan : She didn't ask because she knew what's best for her to preserve her own deniability: the President knows exactly what she's doing, she's smarter than either of us gave her credit for
Ethan Kanin : I see, so you just provided "counsel?"
Charles Logan : That's right
Ethan Kanin : Well... let me "counsel" you: stop this cover up before it's too late. This peace is no good, there's too much blood on this treaty for it to ever hold
Charles Logan : We've both been in this "game" a long time and we both know damn well that every treaty ever written had blood on it
Ethan Kanin : Not like this: you've got Alison so far "into the woods", she'll never be able to find herself out. She isn't like you, she's unlike any politician I've ever known
Charles Logan : That's right... she's finally got some teeth
Ethan Kanin : You listen to me. If she suffers for this, I will come after you with everything I have
Charles Logan : You're threatening me
Ethan Kanin : [Sternly] I'm "warning" you
Charles Logan : [Ignoring his comments] do you need to sit down?
Ethan Kanin : I'm fine
Charles Logan : Well, then, if you don't mind, Alison will be taking the podium any second now... get some rest, you need it
