- Ella learns from her ruthless new boss, Caleb, that her job could be in trouble due to a recent merger with the company unless she brings in a huge client. Ella then forces David to take her to a Brentwood party. There she hopes to land a big actor client, Jasper. David has plans of his own - to heist a million-dollar watch from the party and exchange it for cash with his partner in crime, Amir. Meanwhile, Lauren, still in desperate need of tuition money, agrees to go out on another date in exchange for money, but inadvertently winds up at the same party as David and Ella. Detective Rodriguez questions Auggie, who flashes back to when he first met Sydney three years ago during an AA meeting. Also, Riley and Jonah view surveillance video of Violet acting oddly and begin to think she's hiding something involving her and Sydney, while Violet asks Auggie to give her a job at the Coal restaurant.—matt-282
- Morning at Melrose Place. Auggie is in the shower. As the camera pans over his naked body, we see a flesh wound on the back of his shoulder, caused by a knife. Blood washes away down the drain. Lauren comes home from her date with $5,000. David chides her 'walk of shame'. Jonah gets totally spoiled by his fiancee Riley with a bowlfull of green clover cereal, his favorite flavor, for which she had to sift through three boxes. Riley is taking the day off from teaching first-graders so that she can celebrate her engagement by going to Zuma Beach with Jonah. Security-conscious after the murder, Ella (lovely blonde Katie Cassidy) enlists Jonah, the AV geek with all the camera expertise to install a surveillance camera at Melrose Place, but it is really just a ploy to keep him from hanging out for the day with Riley.
Violet (shy-looking hot redhead Ashlee Simpson) is relaxing by the pool on a chaise lounge, filling in a crossword puzzle. She has long legs and porcelain-white skin. Apologizes to Auggie for having used his newspaper, but he is just interested in the sports section. She mentions a job prospect she is considering to Auggie, $300 an hour for inexperienced models, and he cautions her against it, telling her she should come to the restaurant he works at, Coal, and ask Marcello to be a hostess there. Auggie is visited by the police who are investigating him. Rodriguez asks him how well he knew Sydney Andrews. He remembers first encountering her at an AA meeting four years ago on St. Patrick's Day where she was recounting how her drinking started because of her loveless marriage to a husband she persuaded, or rather then, blackmailed, into tying the knot. After the meeting, the two of them had hot urgent passionately steamy sex. But he tells the police they were just friends.
Ella Simms' job is on the line due to a merger. Caleb Brewer is now her new boss, snugly nestling in, and wants her out. "Think of this as the Titanic," he tells her, and adds that there isn't enough life-boats. He seems impervious to her sexy short hotpurple dress. She sets out to sign up the hottest male star of the summer, Jasper Barns. Ultimatum: failure to land this objective over the weekend, will result in her being out of her job. She confidently tells Caleb that she never comes back empty-handed, but she is clearly worried.
Riley warns Jonah that Ella aims to come between them. The impressionist painting he stole isn't going to bring in quick money, and David needs cash. He tells his roguish partner-in-crime, Amir, he can supply him with a million dollar watch, which he is clearly planning to heist at the party at the house on Nightingale Drive he has been invited to by his high school ex-girlfriend Trudy, a stylist to the stars. Ella needs to be invited too if she is to even get close to Jasper. She, his alibi after the murder, blackmails him into taking her along by threatening to blow his cover.
Lauren is phoned by Toby. He has a friend, Rick, who could also 'help her out by making a donation'. She thanks him sarcastically for being her pimp, but it was a one-time thing, thank you very much, but he reminds her that she has his number. Riley talks to Auggie by the pool. "Anything you say can just be between us." He confides that he cannot get Sydney out of his mind, that everytime he closes his eyes, she is there. The two of them are spotted by the scheming Ella, who realizes that the camera recorded their earnest meeting.
Violet, casually dressed, schoolgirl shirt, tie and skirt, goes to the restaurant, but bad-tempered Marcello is unimpressed with her, and doesn't want to hand out jobs to girls just so that Auggie can get to score with them. Dejected, poor Violet stumbles away. Auggie backflashes re Sydney, how he confessed to her about the death of Janine, a girl he fought over with another guy at a bar. Guy pulled a knife, Janine jumped into the way, and was fatally injured. Sydney then resolutely told him that she was his rock, this wasn't the time for sex again, they had to take the twelve-step program seriously, she loved him too much to see him fail.
Lauren, who still owes $20,000 tuiton, cannot get an extension from the university, and they're still going to kick her out. Fashion advice is given by style expert Ella, who goes through her own wardrobe to find her protegee something sexy to wear. Oh, and she is really pleased with a skimpy dress she has quite forgotten about; it's what she herself is going to wear to the party in the Hollywood Hills tonight. Lauren has nothing more to look forward to than 'a date with the couch', reality TV shows. Ella encourages her to do whatever it takes to become a doctor, because one day she'd just be thankful she did whatever it takes as long as she got there.
Skimming through the surveillance tape, Jonah observed Riley and Auggie's intimate conversation, and is instantly jealous. Weirdly, Violet has floated in the pool, imitating Sydney's corpse, freaking out Riley. Lauren goes to meet up with Rick, and she asks him what they should tell his friends about how they met. She doesn't want him to mention that she is an aspiring doctor, just tell them we met at Trader Joe's. Going for an Indian restaurant, they zoom off in his flashy Ford Mustang convertible. Riley is suspicious about Violet, and Jonah is obsesing about the 37 minutes, 43 seconds conversation she had with Auggie, complete with shoulder-touching. She points out that Ella has a thing for him, that the whole building knows it, but Jonah insists that Ella is the one that believes in his career prospects. "She understands my talent!" Riley storms out.
To the tune of Kesha's "Tik Tok", Violet, with a little help from her mentor, is now the epitome of sexy dressing. Marcello cannot keep his eyes off her, and she gets hired there and then.. The party at the house in the Hollywood Hills is off at full swing, and we hear from idle banter that David, with his drug habit, abused his ADD medication. Ella, who's dress is tantalizingly open at the back, spies Lauren and Rick there, and Lauren 'has to 'fess up to the (supposed) relationship'. Ella, the go-get-him tigress, spots and singles out Jasper, who is badly wasted already, in the mood for dirty fun, and very open to her about his 'inmediate needs' (he wants her to open up his trousers, but she responds cheekily that she doesn't do small jobs) and to fix this (yeah, right) she lures him off to the swimming pool where she tricks him into dropping his trousers. Whipping out her cellphone, she snaps a picture of his overexposed appendage and threatens to share it with the world. It being British, it is still offensive, she gleefully rubs it in. Victoriously wiggling away, she causally informs him that she deleted.
Sneaking off at the party, David is soon rifling through a collection of ultra-expensive watches in a bedroom drawer where Ella finds him, suspecting him of having been after medicine cabinets again. "Just a matter of time before I find you out." Ella knows he is hiding something (in the figurative sense, but she also snuck a hand in his jacket pocket, sure she'd find pilfered drugs; the stolen watch is already, blatantly confident, around his wrist.). On the spot, offers to show her something. Well,.as long as it's not 'flappage' again... He produced a tattered photograph from his childhood days growing up with an ailing mother in a trailer park in San Bernandino and it is explained how philandering old Michael shamefully took in his illegitimate child he did not know about, a thirteen-year-old boy, 'and threw money at him'. Ella, clearly from a sketchy dubious past, says that she could almost like him. He gets to saunter off with the valuable trinket.
Rick, who turns out to be a nice guy, tries to get Lauren to stay. "I make a mean waffle", but she coldly just insists on being paid after having lived up to her end of the deal.
Rodriguez and his partner is back to confront Auggie. That knife fight, he killed the guy. Self-defense, claims Auggie. "Did you see Sydney Andrews the night of the murder?" Another flashback, Sydney was using cocaine and grabbed a knife when he accused her of just getting back at David's dad (Michael) and they struggled when he tried getting the drugs away from her, Auggie got sliced, and the viewer cut off from whatever happened next. Auggie denies to the police that he'd ever have hurt Sydney.
Monday morning. Ella, now in a short blue dress, dances around not actually having signed Jasper Barns. While Caleb Brewer, adept with gaydar, did. But the actor had insisted on the 'ballsy' junior publicist being his point person, so Ella scores after all, and snatches Caleb's cigar.
"On a scale of 1 - 10, how mad are you?" Jonah reconciles with Riley, stating that her affectionately kind nature was what drew him to her in the first place. They agree to having to rely on mutual trust.
Outside, in the infamous pool, long-legged Ella is drifting on a Lilo, and Lauren joins her in the water. Ella reports that her job is secure, she 'is not joining the ranks of the unemployed day-drinkers' (her little dig at David) and that she 'didn't have to whore herself out' (her little dig at Lauren) but she does get her come uppance when she tries dragging Jonah off for a coffee that night, and he declines, announcing that he is celebrating his 'engagement-hood' with Riley. Violet loves the water and Jonah poignantly reminds her, "so did Sydney."
Violet is convinced that Sydney is her mother. Private detectives sniffed her out, and, having gained entry to her apartment under false pretenses, she sneaked off with hair from Sydney's hairbrush and had the DNA analyzed, the test coming back positive. Violet flashes back on Sydney's vehement denial that she ever even had a baby, and remembers how she told Sydney that she had searched too long for her mother to ever be denied again. Underwater, Violet swims at the camera like a hungry shark...
