I caught this series recently in Jan 2022 on HBO-max and I was hooked from the 3rd episode.
There are a lot of people disappointed in the last episode, but I wonder if they really have been paying attention at all?
Every major or minor character on this show died, that was the entire theme or the message of this show about that criminal world. Ciro and Genno were no different than anyone else, as "lazy" predictable writing or cliche it may seem to
a lot of the viewers, but the ending actually fit the narrative of the show. Ciro and Genno were destined to die, because there are no winners in that world, everyone who took a life, lost a life and everyone was expendable.
I have never ever liked any shows about the Mafia or criminals, I was never fan of "Sopranos", I thought it was very overrated garbage. I did like the "Wire" and there were similarities to this show. But "Gomorrah" was only focused in one world, it was much darker than any American gangster show, not that it had even the same level of violence, but the plot was more like you are watching a Shakespeare play at times, with so many unpredictable twists and betrayals , the cruelty of its characters was what made it so dark.
This show had the most profound affect on me emotionally almost at the end of each episode. I hated these characters; but I liked them at the same time?. I feel sad this show has ended and I feel a void because I honestly don't feel anything can top this for a long time, this is what you call a masterpiece.
