There’s some low-stakes pleasure to be had in the first half of the gory new film from the team behind Ready or Not and Scream but things fall apart disastrously
Last year’s handsome gothic horror The Last Voyage of the Demeter and bombastic Nic Cage comedy Renfield allowed Universal the opportunity to present known IP as something fresh, at least on the surface, stories involving Dracula but told in ways we hadn’t seen before. They represented a nifty marketing strategy for a back catalogue of classic monster movies but both worked better as loglines than finished films – Dracula on a boat, Dracula as a bad boss – and audiences proved as uninterested as critics, the stench of old property distracting from the promise of something new.

Two things that make any movie better when added to the mix are monsters and Nic Cage. With Arcadian we get both. The sixty-year-old actor has gone through a significant career shift in his later years. He certainly hasn’t slowed down, starring in five films released last year and popping-in for a quick (and confusing) cameo for DC’s The Flash. Beginning around 2013’s Joe and continuing with films like Mandy, Pig and Dream Scenario he’s gravitated towards smaller films with a focus on character exploration amidst extraordinary circumstances. 2024 continues that trend with a successful spin on the post-apocalyptic genre.

Five upcoming Spanish TV fiction projects, involving top local production and distribution companies, feature in Coming Next from Spain, a showcase of series unspooling March 19 at Series Mania.
Atresmedia TV’s “Sanctuary,” Movistar+ Plus’ “Fine Arts,” Filmax’s “Dating in Barcelona” Season 2, The Good Mood-Mediawan’s “The Other Life” and Onza Distribution’s “Heartless” will be presented at the event, proving once more that Spanish fiction production is in good health.
Six years after high-end Spanish TV series lifted off on the global market, championed by hit series such as “Money Heist” and “Elite,” Spain has become one of the steadiest suppliers for worldwide platforms.
The successful trend continues as of today, with Mediaset España and Alea Media series “Wrong Side of the Tracks,” whose Seasons 1, 2 and 3 have reached the top 10 of most watched non -English TV fiction shows on Netflix for the period March 4-10, 2024, cumming 41.6 million hours viewed.

“News of a Kidnapping,” created by Andrés Wood and Rodrigo García, has picked up more recognition at the Rose d’Or Latinos. The dramatic series, which won a Platino Award last April for best dramatic series, added to its collection of prizes at the inaugural event held at Content Americas in Miami on Jan. 23.
The Latin American extension of Europe’s Rose d’Or Awards, led by jury chairman, Mas Ros Media CEO Marcos Santana, doled out prizes across television, feature films, unscripted content and podcasts.
Prime Video took home the most statuettes at the event, an encouraging sign of its growing cachet with talent across the region. In addition to winning best drama for “News of a Kidnapping,” the platform earned awards for best film, best reality or factual program (“Libre de reír”), and best documentary.

It’s been a year since Bad Bunny has been on tour, but now, fans won’t have to wait much longer.
In February next year, Bad Bunny will kick off his Most Wanted Tour, where he will perform 47 shows across 31 North American cities. Major cities like Chicago, New York City and Miami will have the “Un Verano Sin Ti” singer performing for three nights each.
The Puerto Rican’s upcoming Most Wanted Tour was announced in October, shortly after the release of his fifth studio album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana.
The announcement on social media came in the form of a short video with Bad Bunny in a mask riding a horse and stopping in front of a building covered with “Most Wanted” posters all over the exterior wall. He then gets off the horse to take one of the posters down, looks at it,...

Miami Art Week brings dozens of international art fairs to the Magic City, blanketing the beach to Downtown from Dec. 4 to Dec. 10 in a full-scale sensory and social overload. The art-world elite and their A-list clients, including film, television, music and fashion industry movers and shakers, all migrate south to discover what’s new and socializing — perusing, buying, schmoozing, eating and drinking around town. The only thing more intense than the parties, the openings and the brand experiences is the traffic, which makes plotting a trajectory essential.
While the experience is often referred to as “Art Basel Miami Beach,” that is only one of the fairs — albeit the largest. Below, The Hollywood Reporter rounds up the best parties, exhibitions, artists, events (most are invite only or require advance tickets) during Miami Art Week. New events are being announced every day, so check back often for updates.

With Halloween right around the corner, viewers have plenty of seasonal titles to choose from in October. But there’s more than horror to look forward to in theaters and on your favorite streaming services this month, from Prime Video to Hulu. Loki and Our Flag Means Death both return for new seasons, as does, somehow, Frasier (though most of its cast will be nowhere to be seen).
Beyond that, we’ll be getting big new movies, including one of the year’s most-anticipated films from Martin Scorsese (Killers of the Flower Moon...

"Let's see how this tastes..." Hulu has revealed the official trailer for a new streaming series called Nada, created by the Argentinian filmmakers Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, who last made the fun meta film Official Competition and the series "El Encargado". In this Argentine dramedy, Manuel is the quintessential Buenos Aires native. A food critic, aesthete, and all-around provocateur, Manuel has lived for decades with a woman who handles nearly all the tasks in his daily life. But when she passes away, everything changes – and Manuel begins to discover that he doesn't know how to do anything for himself. "A story about culture and life, and about how a change in your routine can lead you on a surprisingly tender adventure." Luis Brandoni stars as Manuel, and Robert De Niro makes an appearance as his old friend from New York, who joins him in Buenos Aires to walk around the city and chat.

The They Live episode of Wtf Happened to This Adaptation? was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian. Here is the text of Hatfield’s script:
I bet you thought when we started covering adaptations that we would be going to the Stephen King well more than a few times and believe me, we will. Today though, we are covering our second John Carpenter helmed adaptation after we discussed The Thing in the inaugural episode. While that one was pretty well known for being a more faithful adaptation of the book his hero Howard Hawks had adapted, not a lot of people may realize that They Live was sparked from a very short comic that adapted a very short story.
We came here to chew bubble gum and find out what the f*ck happened to this adaptation,...

Barry Levinson and Robert De Niro are getting the band back together for Wise Guys, a period drama that will have you sleeping with the fishes, see? The mob-related project finds Levinson and De Niro joining forces after teaming for the HBO TV movie The Wizard of Lies and the films What Just Happened, Wag the Dog, and Sleepers. Word has it that De Niro will tackle two roles for Wise Guys. Will you be able to handle it?
According to reports, Wise Guys revolves around Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, two Italian-American crime bosses that ruled the streets during the mid-20th century. In 1957, Genovese tried to assassinate Costello but botched the attempt. Costello got injured in the altercation, but the experience prompted him to retire. The thing about the mob is that you can never truly leave that line of life behind. That lifestyle has a way of...

Emmy nominations were, as per usual, a mixed bag (see full 2022 list here). For every inspired nod (woo-hoo, Abbott Elementary!) there was a snub that had me scratching the skin off my scalp (still no love for Robert and Michelle King’s dual triumphs Evil and The Good Fight?!). So without further ado, I give you the good, the bad and the downright ugly from this year’s roster.
I’m Super-Ecstatic About:
* The aforementioned strong showing from broadcast comedy unicorn Abbott Elementary.
* All of the nods for Apple TV+’s crazily inventive and suspenseful Severance.
* Station Eleven star Himesh Patel’s nomination.

In a milestone move, HBO Max will bow on June 18 in Spain and Latin America a weekly Max Original TV format version of “Nadie Sabe Nada” (“Nobody Knows Anything”), a hit comedy improv format starring Andreu Buenafuente and Berto Romero, two of Spain’s best known and admired figures on its late-night talk show scene.
HBO Max has previously announced the adaptation of the reality dating competition and Max Original “FBoy Island” in Spain, Netherlands and Sweden. But “Nadie Sabe Nada” will be its first Spanish Max Original entertainment show to premiere in Spain.
Buenafuente broke out in Spain bowing in 2005 on broadcast network Antena 3 the David Letterman-ish “Buenafuente,” a late night talk show which gently-ribbed some of Spain’s still sacred cows after 28 years of democracy.
“Nadie Sabe Nada” maintains Buenafuente’s hallmark bemusement and keen sense of irony, but simply has Buenafuente and Romero sitting at...
