Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello’s seemingly perfect romance wasn’t meant to last. But after seven years of marriage, the couple announced their separation in July 2023—citing irreconcilable differences.
While the split came as a surprise to many, reports soon revealed the main reason: Vergara’s decision not to have more children. Her openness about the reason for their divorce – her not wanting more children – brought attention to Manganiello’s desire to become a father.

Reports have since surfaced suggesting Manganiello wants to start a family with his new girlfriend, but there’s no confirmation on the details of this relationship. Vergara, meanwhile, hasn’t commented on these reports.

Burt Young, the gravely-voiced actor who played Sylvester Stallone‘s brother-in-law, Paulie Pennino, in Rocky, has died at 83. Young became beloved by moviegoers for his interpretation of the down-on-his-luck character who helped champion Rocky Balboa’s rise to boxing stardom. The film franchise would total nine installments over almost 50 years, but how many Rocky movies and sequels did Young appear in?

Rob Corddry, a Daily Show alum, Emmy-winner and star of CBS sitcom The Unicorn, will headline a joint Medscape and WebMD fundraiser this Thursday, April 16. The effort is in support of Project C.U.R.E, an international organization focused on providing face masks and other protective medical equipment to millions of healthcare workers.

Funny You Should Mask will run simultaneously on the WebMD and Medscape Facebook pages on April 16 beginning at 8 Pm Et. The show will feature Corddry and fellow comedians Dr. Ken Jeong, Eric Andre, Sasheer Zamata, Nicole Byer, and Kumail Nanjiani talking with doctors and nurses on the Covid-19 front lines about what they are experiencing and what healthcare workers need.
Conversations include a nurse working in an underserved community, two New York City transplant surgeons who have transformed their office into a Covid-19 positive facility, an emergency medicine doctor in Los Angeles who continues to work from home to support her staff and patients, an epidemiologist who is pushing for increased testing, and an emergency medicine doctor from Portland, Oregon caring for Covid-19 patients.
“There’s nothing funny about coronavirus, but that doesn’t mean a little levity won’t lift the sagging spirits of any healthcare professional who needs it,” said Corddry.
“As the largest news, clinical tools and continuing education resource for healthcare professionals around the world, Medscape seemed like a natural fit for the collaboration,” said Ivan Oransky, M.D., Medscape’s vice president of editorial.
Similarly, WebMD is the most popular site for consumers seeking information on health-related topics. Both sites have seen dramatic increases in engagement since the Covid-19 outbreak began.
“We were excited that Rob and his comedy buddies wanted to work with Medscape, particularly to support a charity focused on addressing the critical shortages in masks and other personal protective equipment (Ppe),” he said. “These are extraordinarily difficult times for healthcare workers, and bringing some laughter, and importantly support for the work that they do, is a great effort.”
“Besides, we’re not very funny,” said Oransky.
Project C.U.R.E, the world’s largest distributor of donated medical relief, including masks, gloves and Ppe is now devoting all its resources to support healthcare workers in the U.S.
“We have been working hard to take care of the brave women and men who are fighting the Covid-19 fight on the frontlines of our community,” said Douglas Jackson, PhD, Jd, President and CEO, Project C.U.R.E.
“To partner with WebMD/Medscape and Rob Corddry on this project is an incredible encouragement, both to the nurses and doctors that we are working to help and to the thousands of Project C.U.R.E. volunteers who are in the warehouses, driving the trucks and committed to winning the battle. The idea that we can do serious work and put a smile on the faces of these terrific people is really magical. It’s this type of thing that will get us through.”

Making the rounds for a new overall talent deal, “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara met with producer Fremantle this week to discuss opportunities including a judge slot on “America’s Got Talent,” Variety has learned.
Vergara’s current pact with ABC, home to “Modern Family” for 11 seasons, expires in 2020. Insiders said Vergara sat for a general meeting with numerous opportunities on the table, including one of two vacant judges’ chairs on “Agt.”
The production, which airs on NBC, is on an active hunt following the ouster of judges Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough — all while a third party investigation is underway following a Variety report about a pervasive culture of toxicity that preceded Union and Hough’s exit.
Spokespeople for Fremantle and Vergara had no comment.

Also starring Sofía Vergara, Burt Young, Denis O'Hare, James Madio, Michael Rispoli, Yancey Arias, and Vincent Pastore. This looks pretty basic, another former inmate redemption story mixed with a older-player baseball film. Might intrigue a few people, mainly baseball fans. Organizers of the American Film Market are limiting access at the headquarters Loews Hotel to the official Afm participants, Variety has leaned.
When the 39th Afm starts on Oct. 31, admittance to the Loews will be strictly limited to those with credentials. In the past, attendees coming into the hotel lobby in Santa Monica, Calif., have been forced to deal with a wide variety of unsolicited pitches from unofficial sources.
In earlier years of the film market, sales agents and producers having business meetings in the lobby bar were infamously beseiged by uncredentialed wannabes flogging scripts or seeking acting roles.
Jonathan Wolf, who is starting his third decade as Afm managing director, told Variety that the move is in response to attendees’ concerns. “The lobby of the Loews should be the epicenter of the Afm but nobody wanted to be in the lobby,” he added.

Amy Heckerling: Amy Heckerling directed the starting point for a generation of brilliant high-school films, Fast Times at Ridgemont High before moving on to the stellar European Vacation. In 1989 and 1990, she hit a creative stumbling block, directing the successful but excruciating Look Who's Talking films before bouncing back in 1996 with Clueless. Unfortunately, it was soon after that success that she crapped out, directing Night at the Roxbury, Loser, and most recently, the straight-to-dvd clunker, I Could Never Be Your Woman, with Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer. She does have another film in the works, Vamps, with Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter, but the movie (pictured below) seems unlikely to save her directing career.
