Jason Statham is someone who is admirably unpretentious and genuinely grateful for his success, and within that, he has a definite preference of films that can predominantly define his career. Earlier this year, Statham was seen in The Beekeeper, a seemingly usual action B-movie fare with the star, but the movie from Suicide Squad director David Ayer would throw in some bold conceptual curve balls to the normal vengeance tale. Deadline has now reported that Statham will be working with director Baltasar Kormákur for his next action film.
Kormákur’s resume features such credits as Contraband, 2 Guns, Everest and the recent Idris Elba lion attack film, Beast. According to Deadline, “In the currently untitled pic, Statham will play Mason who lives in isolation in a remote Scottish island. Anticipations regarding the new co-op heist from the Just Cause famed Avalanche Studios are rising day by day. This title is going to be perfect for you and the boys, as it supports up to eight players. Despite its announcement in 2021, there has been no solid update from the developers yet, so fans are disappointed.
Now the disappointment might get bigger, as Avalanche Studios might have put their hands on another “cutting-edge Aaa open-world game”. In the absence of any release news for Contraband, fans are not taking the news of this new title in a good way.
The Studio Behind Just Cause Puts Up a New Job Listing
Instead of pushing forward Contraband, the studio is now focused on a new open-world title.
Recently, the studio rolled out a job posting on its website for the position of a Gameplay Animator for a new Aaa title, first spotted by Geekinout.

Mark Wahlberg’s sci-fi action series Transformers wasn’t as adult-oriented as some of his other films. Still, the actor had second thoughts about exposing Wahlberg to the films in their formative years.
Why Mark Wahlberg didn’t want his kids watching ‘Transformers’ Mark Wahlberg | Fred Duval/FilmMagic
Wahlberg picked up where Labeouf left off with the Transformers franchise. The actor led the series in the commercially successful Transformers Age of Extinction, and also in its sequel The Last Knight. “It’s as much fun as you can ever imagine,” Wahlberg said. “Anybody who’s ever been a kid, playing with big things, this is exactly what it’s like. Blowing things up, shooting guns…It’s amazing.”

Mark Wahlberg had a funky bunch of acting roles on his resume beginning in the mid-’90s but found that he had to put more focus on producing if he was going to try to compete directly with the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.
Speaking with Cigar Aficionado, Mark Wahlberg said, “I started becoming a producer out of necessity…I didn’t want to sit around waiting for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whoever was already established before me and were the guys at the time, and Leo [DiCaprio], to go and pass on a movie until I could get my hands on it. I was always proactive in trying to find material and things that I could produce, that I knew was right for me, create my own destiny.”

The first decade of Kate Beckinsale’s film career was a stream of dramas, punctuated by the occasional romantic comedy. And then came Underworld. Cast as a vampire assassin, Beckinsale got her first taste of the action genre … and she liked it. With appearances in four Underworld sequels, as well as films like Van Helsing, Contraband, and Total Recall, she gained a reputation as an action star. As Underworld celebrates the 20th anniversary of its release, we recall how Beckinsale — at the time the movie opened — admitted she had no idea whether she was going to be able to pull off the physical demands of being an action star.(Click on the media bar below to hear Kate Beckinsale) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Kate_-Beckinsale_Underwold_.mp3 Underworld is available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and most digital platforms.

With its list of new releases for March 2023, Amazon Prime Video might be rolling out its most impressive monthly lineup yet.
We know that sounds like something straight out of a press release but in this case, it’s actually true! Prime Video, bless it, has some excellent original titles like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but its monthly release updates have often been less inspiring than its TV peers. That’s certainly not the case with March 2023 though.
Prime Video gets its streaming party started early by premiering the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six on March 3. This series, based on a book of the same name, tells the fictional Behind the Music-esque story of an equally fictional band. Then, on March 17, Amazon’s partnership with Donald Glover bears its first fruit with the series about obsessive fandom called Swarm. Reggie Jackson documentary Reggie premieres...

Just as it looked like the summer movie season was winding down without any well-loved franchises in sight, “Dragon Ball” has come to town.
“Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” looks to top domestic box office charts for the weekend after scoring 10.7 million on its opening day. The Crunchyroll release is projecting a 20 million opening from 3,007 locations, which marks the widest release ever for the distributor. It’s also the widest release ever for an anime film, which includes a massive footprint in premium format auditoriums like Imax, 4Dx and Dolby Cinemas.
The debut marks a notable uptick from the 9.8 million domestic opening scored by 2018’s “Dragon Ball Super: Broly,” the preceding entry in the saga. It’s also a comparable figure to the 18 million debut enjoyed by Funimation’s “Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie” in March of this year. Both comparisons illustrate how anime features have taken on a sizable...

“It’s the law of the jungle,” one character says fairly early on in Beast — “early” as in after we’ve established that a lion decides to become a four-legged vigilante once some poachers slaughter his pride, but before this one-cat army sets his sights on our hero and his family. The way the man inhales and pauses before he delivers the next line suggests he’s about to drop some serious science: “The only law that matters here.” Ah. Ok!
To be fair, there are other laws that also apply to this survivalist thriller.

Beast as a premise could be as ridiculous as Snakes on a Plane. Idris Elba fighting a lion sells itself as an over-the-top idea in the same vein as Jason Statham fighting a shark in The Meg.
To this writer’s surprise, Beast is an unexpected thrill. Director Baltasar Kormákur is mostly known for throwaway action movies like 2 Guns and Contraband. He also directed the forgettable survival true story Adrift. With Beast, audiences will ask themselves where this director has been hiding.
With all this said, is Beast worth a trip to the theaters? Here is our full review of the man versus nature survival movie starring Idris Elba.
The film centers on Nathan Samuels (Idris Elba), a widowed father who decides to return to South Africa with his daughters after the death of his wife, a native of the country.

In a multiplex mad for the multiverse and fanatical for franchises, never forget the simple pleasures of a self-contained, high-concept pitch: Idris Elba fights a lion. There, screenwriter Ryan Engle found one. He did it. It’s brilliant. And yet, for all of Engle’s inspired ideas on what a big-budget studio movie can be, he made one fatal mistake when building “Beast”:
That’s no diss on Elba, who remains one of our most charismatic and eminently watchable movie stars. Nor is it a ding against the two talented young actresses (Iyana Halley and Leah Jeffries) who play his daughters. Hell, it’s not even a mark against director Baltasar Kormákur’s vision, which is often at its most compelling when the action-centric filmmaker dips his toes into horror territory. It all goes back to the genius idea to pit Elba against a big cat, which Engle kicks...

The pitch is pretty strong. It’s Idris Elba versus a lion. It’s Jaws on land. And it’s from a director who has well-proven teeth when it comes to the action and disaster movie genres. Icelander Baltasar Kormákur, who made true story-based adventures Everest and The Deep, as well as actioners including 2 Guns and Contraband, has a further connection to the material. When he was little, he wanted to be “a lion scientist.”
“I have always been fascinated by animals, but [particularly] lions. So I was like, ‘Okay, this is something I would love to do,’” he tells Den of Geek magazine. Kormákur is talking to us from London, where he’s currently in the edit suite putting the finishing touches on the movie. He had one condition when agreeing to the project: “I made it clear that, if I was to do this movie, I would have to shoot it in Africa.

Slash won’t stop. Since reuniting with Guns N’ Roses in 2016, the top-hatted guitarist has toured regularly with both Guns and his own band, the one whose name is difficult to say in one breath: Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. This month, he’s releasing new music by each group, 4 with Kennedy and the Conspirators, out today, and an EP, Hard Skool, with Guns on Feb. 25.
It’s taken a long time for Slash to get to this point. After spending his early years in his native England and decamping to L.

William Lucking, the actor best known for his role as biker Piney Winston on the hit series “Sons of Anarchy,” died on Oct. 18 in his Las Vegas home. Lucking was 80.
“Although William often played toughs and strongmen, in his actual life he was an elegant man with a brilliant intellect who loved to argue about politics and current affairs, discuss philosophy and physics and assert fine-pointed opinions about art and poetry,” his wife Sigrid Insull Lucking wrote in an obituary posted on Facebook by his friend and fellow actor Stephen Macht.
Lucking famously played Samcro member Piermont “Piney” Winston on 35 episodes of Kurt Sutter’s FX crime drama “Sons of Anarchy,” from the start of the series through the fourth season (2008 to 2011).
Some more of Lucking’s most notable roles include Army Col. Lynch on “The A-Team” from 1983 to 1984, as well as Bajoran Furel on three episodes of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine...

Contraband
Written by Thomas J Behe | Art by Phil Elliott, Ian Sharman, Cherie Donovan | Published by Markosia | Format: Paperback, 144pp
Contraband follows a young man’s journey into a new “voyeur underground”, where profit-hungry youths prowl streets, secretly filming radical events with mobile devices to satisfy society’s demand for sensational on-the-go content. To enhance the “fully interactive experience,” key elements of modern wireless communication are woven throughout the work ― including text messaging, online blogging, avatars and alerts, and gaming and live video broadcast.
