This is the story of a nymph who haunts a complex of pre-Civil War brick factory buildings. By day it is full of activity. By night it is empty and quiet. At night, the Nymph emerges from her lair and roams the complex. She eats out of dumpsters and observes from the shadows. She enjoyed her freedom and voyeuristic pleasures, but longs for something--she knows not what. One night, looking through a window she sees an artist painting in his studio. Over a series of days, she watches him struggle to put some haunting vision onto canvas. She becomes involved with him from a distance and is distraught the night he throws the painting onto the floor and abandons his studio. She slips inside the studio. His belongings are gone. The canvas he was struggling with lies face down on the floor. She turns it over and is shocked by what she sees.
