Funny Or Die has a new owner: Henry R. Muñoz III, a prominent business leader, architect, philanthropist and Democratic fundraiser, has acquired the 14-year-old comedy website and production company.
Financial terms of the deal aren’t being disclosed. Muñoz is now the sole owner and chairman of L.A.-based Funny Or Die, whose co-founders include Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Judd Apatow. The acquisition includes the Funny Or Die brand, the Funny Or Die content library, its original production slate, and Funny Or Die’s social media assets with more than 40 million followers.
Muñoz purchased Funny Or Die from the company’s former stakeholders, which included AMC Networks, WarnerMedia’s Turner and Sequoia Capital. With the sale, Ferrell will continue to collaborate creatively with Funny Or Die, serving as an adviser.

Zach Galifianakis’ Funny or Die series “Between Two Ferns” will soon be a movie, with a global release on Netflix on Sept. 20.
“Between Two Ferns: The Movie” is directed by co-creator Scott Aukerman, who co-wrote with Galifianakis. For the uninitiated, “Between Two Ferns” features Galifianakis on a comically low-budget set as he conducts awkward, often combative interviews (full of factual errors) with famous people. Notable guests have included Brad Pitt, Jon Hamm, Hillary Clinton, and then-President Barack Obama, among others.
Created by Aukerman and Galifianakis, the show debuted on Funny or Die in 2008. Twenty-one episodes have been produced, as well as a 2012 Comedy Central special.

Zach Galifianakis is back with a new episode of Funny or Die’s “Between Two Ferns,” featuring guests Jerry Seinfeld and Cardi B.
The last time we saw an episode of “Between Two Ferns,” Galifianakis sat down with Hillary Clinton in September 2016.
As is common with episodes of “Between Two Ferns,” this installment is extremely uncomfortable as Galifianakis grills Seinfeld on “lazy car-based non-comedy” in regards to his show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” as well as his movie “Bee Movie” which Galifianakis says should’ve been called “D-Minus Movie.”
Halfway through the episode, Galifianakis welcomes another, “better” guest, Cardi B, and the tone of the episode shifts completely — much to Seinfeld’s awareness. Moreover, Seinfeld is forced to sit on a crate outside of the ferns.

In 2007, Will Ferrell went viral when he staged a joke conversation with his daughter. One decade later, the company introduced through that clip, Funny or Die, is celebrating its tenth birthday, and it remains a respected comedy brand in the digital video space.
Will Ferrell, Adam McKay (whose directorial credits include Anchorman and The Big Short), and screenwriter Chris Henchy launched Funny or Die on April 12, 2007. “The Landlord,” in which McKay’s then-20-month-old daughter Pearl delivers a profanity-laced tirade to Ferrell, served as the site’s first video. It ended up becoming a massive hit, and it currently has more than 85 million total views. We have no word on whether Ferrell ended up paying his rent.
Bolstered by the success of “The Landlord,” Funny or Die spent the next decade living up to its name, often with the help of celebrities. The company’s most popular program, Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis,...

Brad Pitt On "Between Two Ferns"
“How old were you when you lost your virginity? Zero?” Galifianakis asked at the top of the infinitely awkward interview.
In true Between Two Ferns tradition, Galifianakis continued to ridicule his A-list guest, joking about how Pitt is overshadowed by his wife, mega star Angelina Jolie in this particularly funny exchange:
“Is it hard for you to maintain a suntan?”
“Why?”
“Because you live in your wife’s shadow.”
The interview wasn’t all funny quips. The short video also features gum swapping and a short stand-up by Louis C.K.

Fans of Zach Galifianakis' Funny or Die show Between Two Ferns are all too familiar with its edgy format, in which the actor (playing a moronic version of himself) interviews various celebrities by insulting them over and over again. It's often very comical to watch, and the guests are always in on the joke -- heck, President Obama starred on an episode! It all feels very much like a comedy roast where one person is doing the roasting, and this week's show featuring Brad Pitt will go down as an all-timer -- a menacing barrage of Brad Pitt insults that are so mean and hilarious, the random Louis C.K. cameo in the middle isn't even the best part. Brad Pitt appeared on the hilarious Funny or Die web-series Between Two Ferns with comedian Zach Galifianakis. I love this series and how incredibly awkward it is. During the conversation Pitt and Galifianakis talk about showers, handsomeness, Thanksgiving, charity work, why the actor likes playing Nazi haters in the movies, living in his wife's shadow, and more. There's a few really great moments during this interview, one of my favorites is when they are talking about when Pitt first laid eyes on Angelina Jolie, and Galifianakis starts comparing it to the Rachel and Ross dynamic in the TV series Friends, and then busts out the theme song. He’s been working hard to promote his new movie “Fury,” and Brad Pitt even paid a visit to Zach Galifianakis for a new episode of “Between Two Ferns.”
In addition to calling him Bradley Pitts and citing one of his movies as “12 Years a Salve,” Zach asked a barrage of insulting questions like “Showers. Why don’t you take them?”
But things got especially uncomfortable when Galifianakis indirectly referenced Pitt’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston while asking about his current wife Angelina Jolie- “Tell me what it was like the first time you laid eyes on Angelina. Was it like one of those classical love stories when Ross first saw Rachel? You know that show ‘Friends,’ have you seen it?”
Zach ended out the chat with, “Do you think maybe people focus too much on your looks and don’t even realize that you’re just the sh*tty actor?...

Zach Galifianakis really went for it with Brad Pitt in a new segment of Between Two Ferns. Pitt went on the Funny or Die interview series to promote the World War II drama Fury, or as Galifianakis calls it, Furry. Pitt became the target of Galifianakis' barbs—which start out relatively quaint at first, as Galifianakis asks about Pitt's shower habits (or lack thereof), Pitt's Playgirl spread back in the day, and his penchant for playing Allied forces despite looking like "Hitler's dream." However, the segment descended deeper into harder burns, asking if Pitt could get a suntan because of living "in his wife's shadow,...

In "Birdman," Zach Galifianakis takes a detour from the broad comedy he's known for to play a mostly harried, straight-man supporting turn. But don't worry, he hasn't left his uncomfortable, abrasive style behind. Another edition of "Between Two Ferns" is here, and it's pretty great. The guest this time is Brad Pitt, and you've got to hand it to the actor for letting himself be the butt of a joke that ends with the punchline, "because you're Hitler's dream." Louis C.K. stops by —which gives Galifianakis a chance to call him "the reverse Benjamin Button"— which he particularly enjoys because Pitt is sitting right beside him. Galifianakis's ribbing of Pitt ("Bradley Pitts") makes for one of the best "Between Two Ferns" to date, and you can truly tell both actors are having a great time playing their roles. Did we mention a special guest also stops by halfway through? Enjoy.

First Lady Michelle Obama made a cameo in the latest Funny or Die video, which featured a fake movie trailer starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Tyler Posey. The fake film, Snackpocalypse, follows a theme close to the first lady's heart: the unhealthy effects of eating junk food. She doesn't seem too impressed by the trailer, though, as she says, "Can we just watch Frozen again?" Her cameo comes on the heels of President Obama's Emmy recognition, as his appearance on Funny or Die's Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis won the Emmy for outstanding short-format live-action entertainment. So the big Emmys don't air until next Sunday night and at Moviefone we will have, of course, full coverage. But last night the Creative Arts Emmys were handed out, for the people that are largely responsible for making these shows that you absolutely love -- you know, the behind-the-scenes talent tasked with conceptualizing and realizing your favorite programs. Oh -- and some guest actor and actresses awards were handed out, so there's that too!
In the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category Uzo Aduba took home the prize for "Orange is the New Black." Since we are, very shamefully, one of a handful of Americans who hasn't seen a single second of "Orange in the New Black," this doesn't mean a whole lot to us, but we are very happy for her! "Sorry, can you repeat that? I’m playing the new South Park video game. It’s amazing!" The interview has just started, and Chris Hardwick is already apologizing over the phone from his L.A. home. Had almost anyone else mentioned there were gaming in the middle of a conversation, the statement might be considered borderline rude. But come on: This is the man they call "The Nerdist," who's built an empire out of reviewing gadgets, internet binging and hosting conversations with past and present genre icons. It's that passion...

Turns out, President Barack Obama has a loyal—and intelligent—friend in Bradley Cooper. In a new post titled "Behind the Obamacare surprise," Politico reports that the Silver Linings Playbook star played a crucial role in facilitating the Potus' appearance on the mock-interview show Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, which lead to a massive surge in Obamacare enrollment. With girlfriend Suki Waterhouse by his side, the 39-year-old actor visited the White House on Feb. 11 for a state dinner honoring President François Hollande where he met with Obama's senior adviser Valerie Jarrett to "brainstorm ideas about how to help get the word out on Obamacare," the site...

Funny or Die's crusade to get as many people signed up for health insurance by March 31 continues. First President Barack Obama appeared on "Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis," now "Parks and Recreation" star Adam Scott has revisited his memorable role as a scumbag from "Step Brothers."
The video includes cameos by Mark Cuban, Jeff Probst and Chris Daughty. What is important though, is the impassioned speech Scott gives as Derek Hough. He doesn't need health insurance. He drinks antifreeze, is riddled with concussions and and finds his multiple experiences being struck by lightning erotic. Who needs healthcare when that's your life?
Of course, none of that helps when he trips and breaks his ankle. He must be wishing for Obamacare now.

President Obama’s appearance in early March 2014 on Funny or Die’s Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis accomplished two things. One, it helped push Americans to Healthcare.gov in statistically significant numbers. And two, it drew the ire of conventionally conservative news programs with critiques of unpresidential behavior. Stephen Colbert has a rather comprehensive clip showcasing the on-air criticisms Potus received from a number of different Fox news reporters, anchors, and hosts after his online video publicity stunt. The critique that resonated most with the press came from Bill O’Reilly, who expressed his opinion that Abraham Lincoln wouldn’t have been part of what he believes to have been a disrespectful shill. Here’s the segment from Colbert Report: O’Reilly’s critique resonated with Obama, too. The President of the United States defended his nontraditional media appearance on the web series during another non traditional media appearance...

Continuing to urge Americans to sign up for Affordable Care Act coverage before the March 31 deadline, President Obama today turned to the woman who’d broken his re-tweet record, Ellen DeGeneres. Obama appeared on her syndicated The Ellen DeGeneres Show via live shot from the White House – his first appearance on the show since being elected to the White House. It’s been about a week since Obama appeared on the Funny or Die web series Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis to tout the benefits of Obamacare; some members of the media had a field day with that one, but they’re pretty busy now with the missing Malaysia Airlines plane story so you may not see so much hair-tearing about today’s appearance, in which Potus discusses his having eaten carrot sticks with potato chips while Flotus Michelle Obama is in China with their daughters; his Practically Perfect...

President Barack Obama is following up his triumphant appearance on “Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis” with an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Obama will appear on the syndicated talk show on Thursday via a live shot from the White House. See video: President Obama Says Zach Galifianakis ‘Was Actually Pretty Nervous’ During ‘Between Two Ferns’ Interview Much like his turn on Galifianakis’ Funny or Die video series, Obama will use the appearance to encourage citizens without health insurance to sign up for coverage via the Affordable Care Act. Except, presumably, with fewer ferns. This will mark Obama's first appearance on.

Earlier this week, we couldn't help but smile when we saw pics of President Barack Obama shopping for the ladies in his life at the Gap, and now the Potus is opening up about his recent shopping spree. The father of two phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, where he dished on his trip to the popular retailer, as well as his comical appearance on Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis while encouraging young folks to sign up for the Affordable Health Care Act. But before he shared a few fun anecdotes, the president got right down to business and stressed that there are many more Americans who should sign up for the Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law in 2010 with the goal of increasing...

See President Barack Obama like you’ve never seen him before! Don’t worry–it’s nothing salacious or something horrible. But you will see him flex his deadpan comedic chops on Funny or Die’s “Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis.” The web short featured the President get awkwardly interviewed by Galifianakis to hilarious effect. A lot of the time, Galifianakis will take the mick out of his guests, and the President is no exception to the rule. But the President also gets tons of digs at Galifianakis, particularly when it comes to “The Hangover” films. So why was President Obama on Funny or Die? So President Barack Obama’s appearance on Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis on Funny or Die seems to have worked. Potus was on the program to not only trade insults with the Hangover star, but turn the young kids these days onto the healthcare options available at Healthcare.gov. Senior Communications Advisor to the White House Tara McGuinness tweeted earlier on Tuesday that a decent chunk of the individuals who have now viewed the video more than 7.9 million times since its release at 10:30Am Et on March 11, 2014 have clicked over to the website set up by the Affordable Care Act. http://t.co/FrO24hdvcA is the #1 source of referrals to http://t.co/0r93BavlrV right now. — Tara McGuinness (@HealthCareTara) March 11, 2014 What site used to be the top referrer to HealthCare.gov and what the referrals from FunnyOrDie.com equate to in terms of actual visits is not clear,...
