Absolutely Riveting!
douglasmcbroom2 January 2022
Brilliantly directed by Stephen Kay and craftily written by series creator, Taylor Sheridan. Dramatic juxtaposition between all Hell breaking lose and the situation in the cabin with the incredible Jeremy Renner and another very strong episode from Emma Laird.

The only negative with the entire episode was the return of the man-hating Dianne Wiest (love the actress, despise the character) but she gets her eyes opened a bit in this episode.

The stage is set for what promises to be an incredible season finale.

One of the Best of the Season
gaslight-126114 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was an excellent episode. I'm glad we finally reached the boiling point with the prison because I didn't want to see that get dragged out much longer. Though I would hope that breaking out of an actual wouldn't be as easy as getting your hands on one set of keys.

I'm glad Iris finally got a calm episode in a safe place and I love how they specifically chose to have Mike off the grid just as everything falls apart. I'm very excited to see how he resolves this situation in the finale.

Also, I continue to love how the McClusky family all have their own way of trying to make things better, even if they don't all see eye to eye. Mike keeping the peace, Kyle helping Mike and catching criminals, and Dianne Wiest's character, educating prisoners. I'd like to see Kyle's wife have more of a role besides "wife" but otherwise, I really enjoy this dynamic. It makes me root for all of them.

Hell breaks loose

I don't know what the other commenters expected to see in this episode and they rate it 1/10 or 4/10. It's evolvement of the series. Not as good as the previous episode but in the same high level. If they want, will go watch s.w.a.t. Or fbi or whatever they want.

Episode 9
toniasanchez3 January 2022
I really like this show. However, I thought this episode was a little far fetched with how easy it was for the whole prison scene to happen the way it did. I cant believe there is only one episode left. I hope it ties together nicely. I do love Jeremy Renner. He is the bees knees!.

Not realistic
scottmortensen4 January 2022
I like this show but feel like they kind of jumped the shark with this episode with how easy the prison was overrun and weapons were too easily available and why wasn't there a complete lockdown when the buzzer was hit.

Implausible and daft

Warning: Spoilers
Excellent series until this daft episode. Please. Give me something to believe in. There is no way that any maximum security prison would allow their systems to collapse with such ease. I'm all on for dramatic licence, but this? Other reviews have summed the worst flaws up - inmates are crack shots, guards are incompetent, inmates get ridiculous access to assault weapons, the coincidence of Milo being in the same area as the crips leader, and by now, Mother Mcluskey is driving me me so far up the wall and I'm almost hoping someone puts a cap in her ass soon. I could forgive some of the other extremes in previous episodes, but this one sacked like a hoover (or a Dyson, if that's your thing).

Episode Ruined the Season
bmlchick19 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The show is far fetched but enjoyable, but this episode was pure trash. Maximum security prison, prisoner transfer of a gang leader. He's left unattended with other inmates standing around with potential weapons. Second prisoner being transferred is a notorious mobster suspected of killing 26 people, no guards on him either. Inmates attack. Alarm sounds, nobody shows up. Prisoners get weapons and are absolute marksman, yet the trained security guards can't hit the broadside of a barn. Half the guards run into a gun fight with batons. The other half don't even raise their guns before being shot. It's like watching an old western where the bad guys take turns entering a building one at a time to get shot. Terrible, terrible episode.

Writing went from 10 to 1 with this episode
aryxus-219 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I started this series based on Sheridan's involvement. His movie scripts are always intelligent and surprising. Up until this episode, I felt the same about this series. Aside from some (necessary?) coincidences and shortcuts, the writing has had a level of authenticity and originality I was grooving on.

Until this. The way this episode unfolded was so far from what would and could happen in the real world that I sat there with my jaw on the floor.

It wasn't only the impossible prison break that was annoying, it was the way they rubbed our noses in it by first showing the care taken in prepping the prisoner. But the thing that really pushed my buttons was the reliance on the hoary old "2 days from retirement" cliche. Sheridan has always relied on genre tropes to pull us in, but then takes our expectations and subverts them. This time he just went with the trope, and the series suffered for it.

Truly loved this series until this episode. Wow, talk about jump the shark. The inmates took over the prison with such ease. Silliness, wow, can't believe 8 episodes were so good, until this episode. Gives hope to prisoners, yikes!!!!

8 amazing episodes then.... this???

Garbage episode. How? How did you do this to the show? Went from a solid 9 to 1 in record timing. Nothing madr sense. All over the place. All the guards are untrained and the prisoners are apparently Navy Seals with cheat codes activated.

I'm assuming between the preaching and the nonstop killing of guards, this episode was made solely for the purpose of satiating the blood lost of Hollywood liberals need for killing cops. Disgusting.

Oh, please...
silverton-3795919 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After the long scene showing how much security was in place when Pdog is taken for transfer, we're supposed to believe that two of his fellow Crips are mopping the floor in the transfer room. No inmates are allowed to work in the transfer areas, period. There are secure areas in every prison where no inmates are used for maintenance.

This is lazy writing by writers who are prone to magical thinking. Naturally, old homely Mom has a scene for spouting off her silly woke views. It's obvious that her scenes were written for her to get Dianne Weist cast somewhere, anywhere, in the series. That is a trademark of Taylor Sheridan's series plots. Some woke actress is cast so that Taylor's bizarre social beliefs can be aired. Piper Perabo was his choice in Yellowstone. These reliably woke actresses and actors are all talentless script readers who serve a function. Watch for them in Sheridan's other projects.

This is getting out of hand..
pajapan2 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was the lamest, least believable prison riot I've seen. The way the guards acted, how much time the inmates had after the alarm went off...

Mike becoming a murderer for Iris in the previous episode is just too stupid to be believable. It's not like there was a relationship (of any kind) that developed between them in the previous episodes.

Kyle's heroics while his life is in imminent danger inside the prison makes zero sense plus the out of place preachiness of Miriam McLusky really bring the quality of the show down.

Hopefully this is a one-and-done season type of show.

Terrible episode that ruined the series..
jwalkjr-238617 February 2022
I was so hooked on this show until this terribly trite and wholly unrealistic episode. Everything from the farcical prison break to the incomprehensible character choices to the virtue-signaling story line.

It really ruined this series for me.
