Last week, it was announced that Julia Garner will portray MCU’s Silver Surfer. She’ll depict Shalla-Bal, known as Norrin’s love interest in the comics. However, in some versions, Shalla also serves as Galactus’s Herald, known as Sunglow.
Reactions to Julia Garner’s casting were mixed. Some in the community felt that changing Silver Surfer’s gender was disrespectful to the character’s legacy, as most associate the character with being male. Others believe that alternative versions of Silver Surfer, particularly female ones, deserve recognition.
Certainly, there are already calls to boycott the movie, but this isn’t the right approach. Regardless of your stance on the film, it’s important to watch it first, even if just to critique it later with an informed perspective. Speaking of Silver Surfer in live-action, we’ve previously seen him in ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,’ portrayed by Laurence Fishburne and Doug Jones.

NBC is parting ways with three of its bubble shows.
The network on Thursday announced it had canceled second-year comedies Kenan and Mr. Mayor, as well as freshman drama The Endgame.
Mr. Mayor got off to a decent start in the ratings last season, quickly landing a renewal for Season 2.
The series, starring Ted Danson and hailing from Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, was also blessed with good reviews.
However, the numbers dwindled in its second season, which netted an average of 1.7 million viewers and a 0.29 rating among adults 18-49.
That was a drop of almost 50 between seasons, and unfortunately, not enough to keep the show around for a third season.
Kenan starred Kenan Thompson, and also took a massive hit in the ratings in its second season.
The series averaged 1.8 million viewers and a 0.31 rating -- down 34.
The Morena Baccarin-led Endgame was a midseason entry that failed to gather much traction.

Season finales are almost upon us.

The Law & Order universe will wrap up with season finales for Law & Order, Svu, and Organized Crime.

OneChicago, consisting of Fire, Med, and Pd, will all conclude for the season on Wednesday, May 25
The trio is already renewed for next season.
New Amsterdam, which has been on hiatus for months, returns in a few weeks for the final stretch of episodes.

A familiar face is scrubbing back into Chicago Med: Jessy Schram, who played Hannah on the NBC medical drama, returned in Wednesday’s episode and will be a series regular going forward, according to our sister site Deadline.
Hannah made her return in the final moments of this week’s Med, starting a new job at the medical center’s emergency Ob-gyn service. Sharon Goodwin set her up with the new position, but Dr. Archer seemed skeptical about bringing her back — which makes sense, since Hannah had a serious heroin addiction that landed her in rehab multiple times.

The latest iteration of CSI concluded Wednesday night, possibly for good.
CSI: Vegas Season 1 Episode 10 managed 3.5 million viewers and a 0.4 rating in the demo, concluding on a steady note.
The series was initially billed as a limited series, and the live + same-day results lead us to believe it will remain as such.
The show could be overperforming on DVR, but time will tell when a clearer picture of how the show actually performed comes out.
Opening the night for CBS was Survivor at 5.5 million viewers and a 0.9 rating -- steady in both measures.
Tough as Nails managed 2.8 million viewers and a 0.4 rating with its season finale.
NBC's One Chicago returned with their fall finales, with Fire (6.6 million/0.7 rating) and Med (6.4 million/0.7 rating) ending the year on steady notes.
Chicago P.D., meanwhile, perked up a tenth with its fall finale, averaging 5.5 million viewers and a 0.7 rating.

“CSI: Vegas,” the sequel and revival of CBS’ iconic forensics procedural, attracted 3.97 million viewers and a 0.4 rating in the key, ages 18-49 target demographic in Nielsen’s Live+Same Day overnight fast nationals— not exactly the primetime behemoth of its predecessor, but then again, the TV landscape and the way we consume content on-screen has changed drastically since the final episode of “CSI” aired in 2015. Per NetBase, “CSI: Vegas” drove over 1.4 billion potential impressions on social media last night and had over 18k mentions.

Don't you hate it when the bad guys win?
The whole reason Ethan was in that parking lot when he got shot was that he was concerned about Dean's behavior, and afterward, Dean's handling of Ethan's case left a Lot to be desired.
Yet at the end of Chicago Med Season 6 Episode 16, Goodwin promoted him to interim Ed chief without having a clue about any of his issues! But elsewhere, at least the whole issue of who stole the Kender drugs was straightened out, so there was that.
I was glad that this story focused on Ethan's treatment rather than being another hostage situation. Med has had more than enough of those in recent years.
Dean's way of handling it was terrible, though. All his worst traits were magnified by a factor of 100 now that he didn't have Ethan to rein him in.
I hope I'm wrong about this, but...

Executive producer Dick Wolf is further cementing his relationship with the peacock network. NBC has ordered yet another spin-off of the Law & Order franchise. Law & Order: For The Defense will be a legal drama that will take an inside look at a criminal defense firm -- the opposite side of the table from Wolf's usual procedural series. Wolf will executive produce the series, along with Carol Mendelsohn, the showrunner of CBS' CSI series for 14 years.
If Law & Order: For The Defense launches next season and recent entry Law & Order: Organized Crime is renewed, that will bring Wolf's network series tally to nine hour-dramas on network television. It was a strong night for The CW's Kung Fu.
The new reboot, starring Legacies' Olivia Liang, launched with 1.4 million viewers and a 0.2 rating -- easily outperforming every episode of Riverdale in the slot this season.
The numbers are down quite a bit from the series debuts of Walker (2.4 million/0.4 rating) and Superman & Lois (1.7 million/0.4 rating), but if it manages to hold up in the coming weeks, it will be a top five performer for the network.
Also worth noting, Kung Fu gave the slot its highest audience figures in two-and-a-half years.
What did you think of the premiere?
The stronger lead-in support also boosted Nancy Drew. The sophomore drama drew 0.7 million viewers and a 0.1 rating -- a season-high in total audience.
Over on Fox, The Masked Singer had 4.5 million viewers and a 1.1. rating.
The series remains on the downside, but the numbers still helped it lead the night in the demo.

It's hard to believe that NBC's Chicago Fire, Med, and Pd returned to the air with their latest seasons back on November 11.
Each of the shows has aired just three episodes of their current seasons due to the sporadic scheduling.
The shows had delayed launches due to the Covid-19 pandemic and went on a two-month break after airing their second episodes back.
While they were set to return on January 6, the network pre-empted the new episodes due to news coverage following the Capitol incident.
All three shows returned on January 13, but they will not be airing new episodes tonight, unfortunately.
NBC is opting for inauguration coverage during two hours of primetime and will close out the night with an encore of an episode from Chicago Pd Season 7.

One Chicago fans will have to wait a little longer for the return of their beloved franchise.
Initially set to return Wednesday, January 6, NBC announced that it was pulling Chicago Med, Fire, and Pd to air breaking news covering the Capitol riot.
"Tonight on NBC: Continuing coverage from NBC News. Originally scheduled episodes of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. will air next week," reads a tweet from NBC entertainment just ahead of when Med was set to kickstart the night.
The good news is that we know when the shows will return -- Wednesday, January 13.
The network followed ABC in rejigging its primetime line-up on the night. ABC pulled celebrity editions of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in favor of coverage of the chaotic scenes that unfolded Wednesday.
CBS also chose to air news instead of encores of some of its original scripted series.

Amid ongoing Hollywood diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, another group is arguing a new series does not reflect these values.

It looks like there will be a long wait before fans of Sweet Magnolias are greeted with fresh episodes.
The series emerged as an instant hit with fans upon its launch earlier this, and a second season was ordered quickly.
This time last year, production was almost complete on its freshman season.
But this is no typical year, and we've had TV shows shut down production often due to the pandemic.
Unfortunately for fans of Sweet Magnolias, no scenes for Season 2 have actually been filmed, meaning that there will likely be a long wait for new episodes.
"We haven’t started shooting Season 2 yet. We want to get back to it as quickly as we can, but we are still working on the details," showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson told Parade.

Exclusive: NBC’s Chicago Fire has paused filming its ninth season for two weeks due to multiple positive Covid-19 tests, I have learned. I hear the Chicago-based firefighter drama shut down production on Sunday, Nov. 8.
Several individuals on the Chicago Fire production team, believed to be in Zone 1, produced positive results when tested as part of the show’s Covid safety protocols.
The positives triggered guidelines set by the sate/county and outlined in the NBCU Production Playbook, including contact tracing.
Since the affected individuals performed duties that required close proximity to other members of the cast and crew, production was paused for 14 days out of an abundance of caution by Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV.
A month and a half ago, another Chicago drama, Chicago Med, also suspended production for two weeks after two different individuals had positive tests within a week.
Chicago Med was the first Chicago One drama to restart production Sept.

“Big Brother” returned for its twenty-second season to easily win the Wednesday night TV ratings race.
The CBS show scored a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 and around 3.7 million total viewers across its two-hour premiere. The Will Sasso and Christina Vidal comedy debuted to a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49 and drew 4.2 million total viewers. Two-time Oscar nominee Burwell had not previously done episodic TV, but was intrigued by the Jennifer Aniston-Reese Witherspoon a.m.-news-show sendup. Explains the veteran of 18 Coen Brothers films: “They wanted someone who could take openly tragic situations and put an ironic tinge on them.”

With production slowly but surely getting underway on TV shows that were shuttered due to the coronavirus pandemic, NBC has announced its fall schedule.
Unlike Fox and The CW, the network is planning on bringing back much of its original programming later this year, with one new drama joining the fall lineup.
Law & Order: Organized Crime is the Svu spinoff starring Christopher Meloni, and it will be paired with its parent series on Thursday nights.
This will allow the two shows to have natural crossovers in a similar way to the #OneChicago franchise on Wednesday nights.
Chicago Fire, Med, and P.D. will be staying put on Wednesdays, which makes sense.
All three have posted solid ratings, so NBC does not need to do anything with them.

“We had an incredible female showrunner, an incredibly talented and diverse cast, and an incredibly talented and diverse writers room.”
Camp added, “I’ve never loved every cast member more and never gotten along so well with everyone on a production."

"I’ll miss seeing the folks of Conley Fork and I’ll miss Ginny so so much.

TV Ratings: ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Final Season Premieres Even, ‘Game On!’ Tops the Night
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returned for its seventh and final season to solid numbers on Wednesday night, while CBS’ new game show “Game On!” topped the night with its premiere.
Coming in with a 0.4 rating amid viewers aged 18-49 and just under 2 million total viewers, the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” season 7 premiere was pretty much even on the season 6 finale from last year. For comparison, the season 6 premiere drew 2.3 million viewers. Earlier in the night, ABC’s airing of “Thor: The Dark World” hammered out a 0.5 rating and 2.6 million viewers.
The other debut of the night was on CBS, where “Game On,” an equal parts comedy and game show from James Corden and hosted by Keegan-Michael Key, scored a 0.6 rating and 4.5 million viewers, topping the night in both metrics. “Game On” pits two teams of celebrities, comedians and sporting champions against one another to see who can conquer unexpected challenges. Wednesday night delivered contrasting luck for the networks in terms of TV ratings.
Fox’s ratings smash “The Masked Singer” won the night, but dropped to a season low 1.8 rating among adults 18-49, and 7.1 million viewers. Its “After the Mask” after-show scored a 0.9 rating and just over 4 million viewers.
Whereas over on the CW, the “Riverdale” season 4 finale drew the teen drama’s largest audience since late January with 683,000 total viewers and a 0.2 rating. A “Bulletproof” replay followed that up with a 0.1 and 315,000 viewers.
The night’s other finale, that of “Seal Team,” failed to deliver any kind of boost. In fact, the CBS show went in the other direction, ticking down 26% from its penultimate episode to a 0.6 rating and 4.6 million viewers, its lowest tally since early March. Prior to that, the network aired two hours of “Survivor,” averaging a 1.4 rating and 7.6 million viewers, which represents a slight dip from last week in both metrics.

“The Masked Singer” and the first ever episode of its after-show led Fox to a dominant ratings win on Wednesday night.
One celebrity wearing the Banana mask may have slipped up last night, but “The Masked Singer” came in at a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49 and drew 7.9 million total viewers. That’s pretty much even on the last episode which aired two weeks ago. Later on, the first “After the Mask,” which is also be hosted by “Masked Singer” emcee Nick Cannon, delivered a 1.4 rating and 5.5 million viewers. That represents a pretty significant improvement on “Lego Masters,” the previous occupant of that time slot, which averaged a 1.1 and 3.5 million viewers across its debut season.
CBS came second, with “Survivor” which scored a 1.5 rating and a night-topping 8.1 million viewers, almost exactly even on last week. Meanwhile “Seal Team” ticked up a handy 29% to a season high 0.8 rating and 5.9 million viewers. “S.W.A.T....

In the latest TV ratings, ABC’s Stumptown wrapped its freshman run on Wednesday night with 2.72 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating, ticking up just a smidgen to mark its largest audience since Jan. 8 while steady in the demo.
Averaging not quite a 0.5 rating across 18 episodes, Stumptown among all ABC dramas bested only fellow freshman Emergence (gosh, remember that show?) and the soon-to-return/ending How to Get Away With Murder. In total viewers (2.85 million), it outdrew those same two as well as midseason entry For Life.

Worlds will collide on next week's episode of FBI.
Chicago Pd’s Hailey Upton character, played by Tracy Spiridakos, tonight was dispatched by her commanding officer, Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), to serve a temporary assignment at the New York Bureau of the FBI.
Spiradakos is set to guest star as Upton on Wolf Entertainment’s popular drama FBI on CBS, next week.
Said Dick Wolf, Executive Producer of both shows:
“Tracy’s character is a fan favorite, and I’m extraordinarily happy to be shining an even greater light on her and gaining new fans along the way before her return to Chicago P.D."
We've known since last June tha Wolf was plotting a crossover, but we didn't know which shows would be involved.
Wolf revealed in June that the idea for the multi-network crossover was his idea, and to his knowledge, the type of crossover has "never been done.

“The Masked Singer” was the big winner in the Wednesday night TV ratings race.
The Fox competition show, which unmasked arguably its most controversial contestant yet, scored a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49 and drew 7.2 million viewers, its largest tally for five weeks. That viewership figure also meant it beat out CBS’ “Survivor” for the most watched program on the night for the first time in a while. “Lego Masters,” which followed “Masked Singer” and was interrupted by a Presidential address regarding travel under the Coronavirus, averaged a 1.1 rating and 3.7 million viewers.
“Survivor” came in at a 1.3 and 6.9 million viewers on CBS. That represents the show’s second lowest viewership in season 40 so far, behind only the premiere. “Seal Team” came in at a 6-week high 0.8 rating and 5.4 million total viewers, likely due in part to the President’s address. “S.W.A.T.” scored a 0.6 and 4.2 million viewers in the 10 p.m. time slot.
