When "The Nate Berkus Show” was canceled after its second season, we were afraid we’d never see the handsome interior designer on the tube again.
But we just learned some very exciting news. Today, the Hollywood Reporter wrote that Nate Berkus will be the host and executive producer of a new show on NBC called 'Renovation Nation.' The 10-episode series travels around the country, featuring two teams of designers and builders competing against each other on design challenges for cash prizes and luxury housewares. Then, America will be invited to weigh in and vote during a live finale, and choose which finalists will win the ultimate prize, a dream home.
Berkus confirmed his involvement earlier on his Facebook page when he wrote, "So exciting! Teaming up with @NBC on a Huge competition design show -- Renovation Nation! Can you out-design the competition?" And TV By The Numbers published...

When The Nate Berkus Show was cancelled earlier this year, some thought that Berkus' old friend Oprah Winfrey should bring his TV series over to the Own channel. Well, that's exactly what's happened.
Unfortunately, Own has merely picked up the existing two seasons of Nate Berkus and won't be producing any new installments. Though local stations can continue to air the Berkus show until September 7th, many have already pulled it off the air.
Own has also purchased the rights to show the first five seasons of Rachael Ray, a series that continues to run in daytime.
Here's the press release:

The Oprah Winfrey Network is bringing some old friends to its schedule. Own had bought the exclusive cable rights to both Rachael Ray and The Nate Berkus Show. “Rachael and Nate are a natural fit for Own’s expanding daytime programming lineup. It will be great to have Rachael’s energy and Nate’s upbeat presence on our air,” said Own president Erik Logan. Starting at 9 Am on September 10, the network will broadcast two episodes of each show back-to-back. Both shows are already part of Oprah’s empire. Winfrey’s Harpo Studios is one of the producers of Rachael Ray, along with CBS Television Distribution, Watch Entertainment and Scripps Network. The show debuted in syndication in 2006. Harpo Studios was also one of the production companies, along with Sony Pictures Television, behind The Nate Berkus Show. A spin-off of Oprah’s talk show, the syndicated Nate Berkus Show ran from September 13 2010 to May 24, 2012 before being cancelled.

We told you last week about tonight’s premiere of the new Syfy show Collection Intervention, hosted by Elyse Luray. Ms. Luray may look familiar to you from other shows; that could be because she is one of the hosts on PBS’s History Detectives. Ms. Luray spent eleven years at Christie’s auction house as an auctioneer and a Vice President of the Popular Arts Department. Some collections she appraised include the archives of Lucas Films, Dreamworks, Chuck Jones’ personal collection, Warner Brothers, Hanna Barbara, Hard Rock Cafe and more.

Heading into its second season, Anderson, the one-hour daily syndicated talk show hosted by Anderson Cooper, is changing its name to Anderson Live as it is adopting a new live format with rotating co-hosts. As we reported in February, the show will also move from its original setting at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s The Allen Room to the CBS Broadcast Center in New York where it will tape in front of a live audience on the stage previously occupied by The Nate Berkus Show. Anderson underwent a change at the helm during its freshman season, with Terence Noonan taking over as executive producer. He will now be joined by George Davilas as Co-Executive Producer. “Being live plays to Anderson’s strengths, providing immediacy and topicality, which allows us to talk about what is going on in the world,” Noonan said.

In a recent interview with the StarTribune's Cj, Nate Berkus reflected on what went wrong with The Nate Berkus Show. The series was cancelled after two seasons on the air and the last episode aired on May 24th.
I think that for me it probably wasn't the best decision to do a daytime, hourly talk show every single day. Design is something I think is elective. It's something a lot of people feel is a luxury. It's not must-see TV. For me, design is really important, but in order to do a show every day you have to talk about a lot of other things. You have to talk about cooking, fashion, style.

The talker, which has originated from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s The Allen Room since its September launch, will be moving to the CBS Broadcast Center in New York. Anderson producers had been looking for a more traditional studio. “We are focused on Anderson being topical and featuring the stories, the newsmakers and the celebrities that everyone is talking about which plays directly to Anderson’s strengths as a journalist and his ability to give viewers the context and depth to be in the know,” Anderson executive producer Terence Noonan said. “At CBS, we will have a dedicated studio that...

One of my favorite holiday movies is the 1990 home security comedy Home Alone. Does anyone better embody the spirit of Christmas than Polka King of the Midwest John Candy as he offers Catherine O’Hara a ride in the back of a van from Scranton to Chicago? You gotta love the Kenosha Kickers! (I never appreciated them at the time; now I think they’re one of the most brilliant parts of the whole movie.) Also, sometimes when I see “Merry Christmas” emblazoned on something, I hear those words as spoken softly by Old Man Marley in the sad church scene.

I'll be honest, this op-ed in The Advocate from adult film star Conner Habib is brilliant. As he reflects on the Fox ambush of teacher Kevin Hogan, he asks a fair question: Why is it Ok to watch porn, but not be in porn? "For these opposers — “investigative journalists,” demonizers, and so-called “upholders of moral value” — there’s a separation between sex and pornography. Sex is meant, at best, to be natural but unmentioned. For surely, the parents of the students at Mystic Valley have had sex, as have the reporters and CEOs and affiliates of Fox News. Oprah Winfrey's favorite interior designer, Nate Berkus, will soon be available for other projects. His daytime talk series, The Nate Berkus Show, has been cancelled after two seasons on the air.
The decorating series -- often referred to as The Nate Show -- debuted September 13, 2010 in syndication. Despite having a loyal following, the Berkus show didn't catch on with a big enough audience. It's been averaging about 1.4 million viewers this season. New episodes will continue to be produced and air until the end of this season but there won't be a third.
In a join statement, Sony Pictures Television and Harpo Studios said, "After careful consideration, we have decided that The Nate Berkus Show will not return for a third season in the fall... We are grateful for the hard work and heart that Nate, [executive producer] Corin Nelson and their...

Washington, Dec 10: Oprah Winfrey, who has since long maintained her position as the queen of TV, slipped again after her Harpo Productions' 'The Nate Berkus Show' was cancelled.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, a statement made by Herpo Studios and Sony Entertainment, the production on the current second season of the show will continue as planned, radar Online reported.
However, the final episode of the daytime Winfrey spin-off will air in May and not return next year.
This is yet another sign of Winfrey's crumbling empire, since her iconic show ended its 25 year run earlier this year, her Own network.

Syndicated daytime talker The Nate Berkus Show will end its run at the end of this season, its second. The show, hosted by Oprah Winfrey protege Nate Berkus, is produced by Winfrey’s Harpo Studios and Sony Pictures TV. “After careful consideration, we have decided that The Nate Berkus Show will not return for a third season in the fall,” the two companies said in a joint statement. “We are grateful for the hard work and heart that Nate, (exec producer) Corin Nelson and their entire team have poured into the show, and we’re very proud of what they’ve delivered.” The end of Nate Berkus, first reported by Broadcasting & Cable, comes two years into a three-year deal with the show’s core NBC station group. The group has already committed to two new talk shows for fall hosted by Jeff Probst and Steve Harvey. Nate Berkus never took off in the ratings,...

So long, Nate Berkus: Sony and Harpo Studios have decided to pull the plug on his syndicated decorating show at the end of this season. The spinoff from The Oprah Winfrey Show bowed in 2010 but Berkus, an interior designer, never garnered a decent following.
Through mid-November, the second season of Berkus’ show has been averaging 1.37 million viewers — below The Wendy Williams Show (1.4 million) and above The Jeremy Kyle Show (695,000). The most watched show in syndication is Dr. Phil at 4.0 million.

Team Gay's Karl Sponholtz is so close to being the next Hgtv Design Star he can smell it – and he got a good whiff of first season winner David Bromstad along the way, too.
"David smells amazing," Sponholtz said about the reality competition show's official mentor. "He loves to hug, and he smells really good when he's doing it."
Sponholtz, a Chicago-based designer for an architecture firm and freelance interior designer, didn't expect to find himself in the final two. We’re down to the final three contestants on Season 6 of Hgtv Design Star, and trying to decide who I want to win feels akin to staring at three paint chips — “Buttercream,” “Newborn Chick,” and “Lemon Drop” — and thinking, “I guess pretty much any of these would work.” Monday night’s episode found us saying goodbye to Kellie, who lost her mojo on a live episode of The Nate Berkus Show, but whose bigger crime was turning a set of rag rugs into poorly constructed barstool covers. I didn’t get why the judges praised the seats — “it’s a really great color story,...

If you missed Modern Family on Inside the Actors Studio, here’s the best part. James Lipton asks the cast about their favorites and turns out Jesse Tyler Ferguson and I share a least favorite word!
I don’t watch Gossip Girl like I used to. For one thing, I just can’t take it any more. For another, the day job keeps me out late most Mondays. But last time I looked, Chace Crawford was no more a “Lead Actor” than Eric was. But that’s how he submitted for the Emmy Awards.

While Twitter didn't exist 25 years ago when Oprah Winfrey first stepped on to her talk show stage, it does now. And thank Oprah, it does. On her finale episode, which strangely ended on a Wednesday (Hint: the last day of sweeps. Oprah didn't become queen for nothing.), she extolled upon us the most important lessons of her life. From what we can tell, there wasn't an open dry eye in the house.
Of course, we don't bemoan her that unadulterated time to give us the best "Aha" moments of her 25 years. After all, she earned it. But, that's where Twitter comes in. We combed the Twitter-sphere for what the celebrities thought about the queen's final episode and we couldn't be more pleased by the cross-section of reactions ranging from touched, thankful, and downright annoyed.
Here's what some celebs tweeted about Oprah's final episode:

It was only a matter a time before "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" dropped by Bravo mega-fan Nate Berkus' talk show.
Caroline Manzo, Jacqueline Laurita, and Teresa Guidice's cousin and new housewife, Kathy Wakile, appear on Monday's (May 23) episode of "The Nate Berkus Show."
After watching the drama in the recent premiere episode for Season 3, we're sure these women could use some pampering. So, Nate took the women out of their typical style comfort zone and handed them over to Marie Moss and Barri Leiner Grant, who wrote "Jersey Girls: The Fierce and the Fabulous." The authors gave the women a retro makeover, but made sure they still kept their home state's flair: high heels and cleavage!

It's sure to be a hilarious (and interesting) experiment watching Nate Berkus share the hosting duties on his talk show for the first time with larger-than-life fashionisto Carson Kressley on Wednesday's (May 18) episode of "The Nate Berkus Show."
In Zap2it's exclusive preview clip below, Carson makes Nate feel a little awk-ward and explains his online connection to Nate's mom!
The star of Own's "Carson Nation" will stick around for the whole hour, but of course the overachiever finds time to give a rocker couple a drastic make-under. Plus, organizer Peter Walsh ("Clean Sweep") shares his guide to de-cluttering your closet. Also, Nate and Carson offer up their personal design picks, which are all under $50.

One of our favorite mantras around the AfterElton offices is “because visibility matters.” Indeed, the idea that gay and bisexual men need to be visible, both to ourselves and to the wider culture, is one of the principle reasons AfterElton.com even exists. After all, it is only by being visible to family, friends and the world that we’ve been able to overcome the stereotypes and bigotry used to justify discrimination against the Glbt community.
That quest for visibility explains why we have done so many polls including the AfterElton Hot 100, the Fifty Greatest Gay Movies, the Top 50 Gay TV Characters, and the 50 Best Gay Books. After all, it’s not as if Entertainment Weekly is going to ask gay and bisexual men which guys we think are the hottest, which movies mean the most to us or, in the case of our latest poll, which celebrities we most admire.

HollywoodNews.com: Rosie O’Donnell has never been afraid to speak her mind and God bless her for it.
But sometimes, the Emmy-winning talk show host’s words get her into trouble with her fellow celebs. Most recently, an interview Rosie gave to ‘Access Hollywood’ panning ‘Glee’s’ storyline involving the overweight high school character of Lauren (played by Ashley Fink) who is being pursued by one of the school’s jocks (played by Mark Salling).
I posted about this a few days ago but to refresh your memory, Rosie was quoted as saying: “Every woman I know who’s heavy has very strong feelings about that storyline. They’re like, ‘Can you believe that? I think it’s horrible. That never happens in school. That character is so unlikeable. Why didn’t they get a pretty heavy girl?’”

Of course the big news items yesterday were the announcements related to marriage equality. As always, I prefer my legal analysis from the Law Dork, Chris Geidner. Basically, the Doma announcement was nice, but not at all what the headlines said. As for the filing on Prop 8 asking the stay be lifted, that’s more interesting. Particularly if you live in California.
Does anyone else think that allowing Prince Harry to throw the stag party for Prince William is risky? At least taking a yacht out into international waters should minimize witnesses. There is nothing better in our opinion than Nate Berkus wearing a bedazzled shirt for the first time. Wait, we take that back. There is nothing better than watching "Dancing with the Stars" pros Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts instruct the ballroom dancing novice on how to move his hips, circle and shimmy. Yes, we said shimmy.

This year has been a rough one as we've had to come to terms with the deadly consequences of teen bullying. On Wednesday, Dec. 29, "The Nate Berkus Show" dedicates an hour to Seth Walsh, the 13-year-old Tehachapi, Calif. boy who killed himself after relentless bullying, because he was gay.
"I knew that I wanted to do a show that celebrates Seth's life," Nate Berkus tells Zap2it. "One of the many things that I was very touched by was [Seth's mother] Wendy's immediate acceptance of him. From the minute he told her he was gay, she said, 'I know. I love you. Don't worry.' This was the story of a child who had the support of his family, but it was a very painful hour."
Both Seth's mother, Wendy Walsh, and his younger brother, 11-year-old Shawn, join Nate to remember Seth's life and discuss how we can avoid another tragedy like his.
